Chapter 8 - Simian Treejumper

[Blightroot moss]

Rank: Mundane

Remarks: Toxic anticoagulant

"Ahh!"

Rain yelps, his fingers recoiling from touching the black moss.

He facepalmed at his own startled yelp, just realising that he had quite a strong poison resistance.

Come to think of it, he had never tested how strong his poison resistance was.

"Kai," He calls

There was a shuffle within the underbush, a brown weasel jumping out, landing before him.

The weasel raises its paws, its whiskers twitching as it sniffed.

It regards Rain for a moment before ignoring him and skittering, pausing after a couple of steps to sniff.

Kai stops before the blightroot moss, sniffing it.

"What are you doing Ka-" Rain speaks up only to halt, his mouth agape as he watches the weasel greedily munch on the toxic moss.

He pauses, expecting a reaction--- none showed.

"You can eat that?"

Rain asks, examining the weasel with a puzzled look.

*Of course he can*

He facepalms, remembering that his beast companion had a thing for poisons.

"Come on boy. " he gestures at his open palm.

The weasel curiously regards the open palm, before leaping onto it.

Rain gently strokes its brown coat, marveling at how weird the weasel's paw looked--- it being scaled and whatnot.

"Good boy."

"I want you to bite me," Rain coos,

The little weasel looks up, confused.

~facepalms~

"Ohh, you can't understand me." Rain sighs, at a loss on how to convey his commands.

"Kai, bite." He directs, biting his own finger and bringing it close to the weasels mouth.

Kai looks up, confused--- but then seems to understand the command.

Its retractable fangs extend as his maw opens, sinking them into Rains finger.

"Isch!" Rain flinches at the sudden pinch.

[You have been poisoned]

He sees the floating notification, his vision blurring as the poison painfully shoots up his vein, faintly pulsating and thrumming.

He stumbles, caught by a wave of dizziness--- he leans on the tree trunk for support.

His wheezing breaths gradually calm as time progresses, the wave of disorienting dizziness subsiding slowly.

A long exhale escapes his throat as he examines his body--- he has recovered back to his peak state.

His finger now had a black patch from where the fangs sunk.

"You got quite the potent venom on you Kai,"

He coos, gently stroking the preening weasel.

With the wave of debilitating dizziness completely subsiding, he gets to his feet--- going back to his curious inspection.

He gently examines through all nook and cranny of the verdant jungle, activating his new skill [Appraise] again and again.

His deep and immersed focus is interrupted by a loud and lively chattering up within the canopy of the jungle.

He lets out a quiet whistle, calling Kai to his side.

The weasel leaps onto his shoulder, they enter [Stealth] closing in on the lively chattering.

To his utter surprise and awe, Rain's gaze lands on a half dozen troupe of monkeys.

Loudly chattering as they swung from branch to branch, engaging in some lively play.

Not monkeys per se,

Okay, they were monkeys, but a tad larger than the norm, yet smaller than baboons.

He activates [Appraise] Dunking back and blending with the foliage when the inspected monkey curiously stares at his general direction.

He sighs, evading the curious gaze.

[Simian Treejumper]

Rank: Tier 2

His brows furrow, making deductions--- concluding that tier 2 meant Adept rank when compared to human rankings.

A stage above him, a feasible gambit, though it came with risks

yet a crooked grin creeps onto his face.

"Kai, lets hunt us some monkey."

He coos,

Getting excited on the prospective hunt, logic still reigned fully.

Tier 2 was still a stage higher, it could prove troublesome.

But with adequate preparation he'll win-- hopefully.

The lively chitter recedes, Rain gets on the move, stealthily skulking as he follows.

A half dozen simian Treejumpers will be too many to fight, therefore, he racks his mind, thinking of ideas on how to isolate one from the troupe.

His figure melded with the jungle floor, keeping close to the shadows.

He lurks, observing the lively bunch.

Settling on a plan of action, he acts

[Appraise] flashes, drawing the attention of the examined simian.

The Simian Treejumper jumps down a branch, landing on another one closer to the jungle floor.

The Simian regards the jungle floor, pausing to look up, noticing the receding chittering.

His kindred were moving further and further away, yet still within the area, not too far away.

Shuk!

Rain flicks a pebble, drawing its attention.

The simian curiously looks around whilst letting out low grunts.

Shuk!

A pebble lands.

The simian treejumper leaps, drawing closer and closer to Rain's hiding place.

Shuk!

A pebble lands a little distance from his perch.

Rain offers a fleeting glance to the beast that had swung, perching at a low branch before him.

His fingers curl as he silently unsheathes his daggers, rubbing a ton of blightroot moss on his blades.

Now!

He pounces, his blade drawing an arc as they aim to reap the primate.

The treejumper swings at the last moment, showing great flexibility and unpeakable agility.

Guh!

Rain reels back as the simian knee slam knocks the air out of his lungs.

He slumps, dodging an elbow blow from the primate.

He retreats, locking eyes with the simian, they probe and analyze each other.

Rain's feet push him off the ground, leaping to his right and rapidly rising towards his left--- his dagger thrusting forward.

Guh!

A clawed palm strike grazing his cheek.

What ensued next was not what he expected.

Rain received a proper beat down--- his face turning blue from the accumulating bruises.

You would think that he wasn't fighting a primate, but rather a heavy weight MMA world champion.

All his tricks fall short as the primate properly wipes the floor with him--- properly getting his ass handed to him.

A headbutt sends him reeling back in agony.

At this point he couldn't help but wonder, if the only thing the Simian treejumper has been doing for the last decade was engaging in brawls and fist fights.

The primate chitters with glee, enjoying the beating it dished out--- constantly laughing as its blows connect.

Rain tries to flee, only to be grabbed by the neck and suplexed.

His vision swims--- angry and regretful curses spewing from his maw.

His gums and split lips bleed--- its iron and copper taste reaching his tongue.

Just then, a brown blur cuts through the air, sinking its fangs on the Simian's neck.

A quick swat had the weasel sent flying, whimpering as it hit against a tree trunk--- nonetheless, it had delivered a payload of venom.

The simian barely pays mind to the bite, gleefully dishing out more blows.

Unaware of the toxin payload pumped into its system--- the poison kicks in immediately, slowing its reflexes.

Yet again, the creature was still oblivious, drunk under the exilerating fight.

But just then,

Its brows furrow, his prey dodging the blow he had calculated as a sure hit.

Its expression contorts in confusion and puzzlement.

Guh!

A knee slams against its sternum--- the human before him lets out a mirthful chuckle.

*How does that feel, Jackass!*

The creature becomes more concerned as more of its blows missing, yet the human now landing blows.

Only when the adrenaline lowers does the simian feel a foreign feeling pulsating through its body, his organs painfully throbbing.

Its vision blurs, only noticing a fleeting blur before an elbow connecting with its face.

Rain grins with malice, dishing out revenge for the humiliation he faced under the Simian's fists.

He was so happy that he could kiss Kai right there and then--- for the great chance he had given him.

Frankly, Kai had saved him from a prolonged beating.

He goes in for another blow, dodging the blind and frantic blows from the Simian.

To his utter shock, the Simian starts hollering, realising the battle was lost, thus calling for help.

The jungle goes silent--- with the simian's hollering cutting through the canopy.

The battle pauses, both accessing the most ideal next course of action

Rain's brows furrow, hearing the other Simian treejumpers running to their kindred's rescue.

His muscles tenses,

*This has to end, NOW!*

He lunges, at the disoriented simian, drawing his dagger from ear to ear.

The simian yelps in pain, leaping onto a branch --- its clawed hands firmly holding the branch as its neck spewed jets of blood.

Rain slides grabbing the whimpering Kai and flees, blending into the foliage without looking back.

The reinforcements had arrived, he wasn't sticking around any longer.
