Citadel

Shepard got off the elevator, two N2's - Cole and Morrigan- behind more to keep an on him than any real necessity for protection, and came face to face with a crowd.

Omni-tools from reporters were shoved into his face, firing dozens of questions per second and the crowd broke into ear splitting screams.

He didn't understand most of it, but still managed to pick things like "Commander Shepard I want your baby!" from several Asari and Humans, requests for his autograph, and a movie offer.

An Asari maiden, overzealous in her desire, pushed one of the reporters down and pulled down her skimpy top, exposing her chest.

"Oooh, Commander, can you give me an autograph?" she said with a sultry tone.

Cole and Morrigan's mouths fell open, watching with bulging eyes as Shepard signed her chest with a marker, not even blinking at the suddenness of it.

"You know, my apartment is really close, if you want some quality time"

"Thanks, sweetheart, but you can't handle me in bed, and I have places to be"

The Asari maiden looked bummed, but still left with a smile, happy to receive an autograph.

Shepard watched the crowd, and realized no way in hell were they going to let them pass. Trying to answer all the questions the reporters had would take hours, and his arm would fall off if he tried to give each and every single one of them an autograph.

"Alright, listen up. I am really thirsty, and anyone who can get me a bottle of Troken can have what they want, whether questions, autographs or me" he shouted as the crowd stopped to listen.

Immediately, they all rushed to find a bottle of water with that brand, thinking they would be the one to earn the right.

"Troken? Never heard of it" Cole said to Morrigan, who shrugged in response.

"Because it doesn't exist. I just sent them on a wild goose chase" He said, waiting for the crowd to fully disperse.

"Yes sir" His guards sounded amused.

"Commander, can I ask something?" Cole had a question after seeing that Asari and as well as all those talks about Shepard in the navy.

"Shoot"

"Are the rumours of you drowning in poontang true? I mean, they must be right?" Cole asked, hesitating. After all questions like these weren't usually asked between superior and subordinate but Commander Shepard wasn't the type to pull rank.

"Of course not, I am an expert swimmer" Shepard turned to the N2s who looked at each other before nodding.

"Understood sir"

"Come on then, I am buying lunch"

"Yes sir" both replied. They could do with some good food.

An Asari and a Salarian armed and looking official approached them after the crowd dispersed, having been stuck behind Shepard's fans.

"Commander Shepard, I am Jondum Bau, and this is Tela Vasir, Special Tactics and Reconnaissance. We are here to escort you to for your medical check up and the visit to the Council Chambers" The Salarian held out his hand as a gesture of goodwill.

"Alright, but I am getting lunch first" Shepard shook the hand, and nodded back to the Asari.

"Lunch will have to wait, the Council wants this done immediately" Tela wasn't happy with the baby sitting duty, and would be damned if she spent any more time with this assignment then she had to.

"Yeah, well, my stomach is grumbling so they are going to have to wait" Shepard stared at Tela, both unwilling to yield to the other.

"Why don't I get you something to eat while you head to the clinic for the examination?" Bau offered a compromise. With how strong-willed Tela and Commander were, they would be here for the whole day.

"That works for me, how about some shawarma boys?" Shepard turned to Cole and Morrigan, who nodded gratefully.

Anything was better than rations after all.

"Yes sir, thank you"

"Alright, six shawarma, biggest they got with everything in it" He was a big boy after all.

"Very well" Bau sighed, having been reduced to a food delivery guy for the sake of speeding things up.

"Okay let's go get this done" Shepard fell behind Tela as she led them to the Huerta Memorial.

"Commander, why are you getting an examination?" The N2s weren't told anything other than to keep an eye on Shepard and remind him of the orders in case he decided to take initiative and exacerbate the fragile situation.

"The Council's worried I am some sort of super soldier" He wasn't told that directly, but they weren't subtle either and the Alliance had already examined him in detail.

"But, you aren't, right?" If he was, Morrigan definitely wanted to be one too.

"Even better, I am me" Shepard answered as if it was a matter of fact.

Tela huffed amusedly, shaking her head at the human.

"Tell me something, Commander. What made you think you would succeed doing something so" Tela stopped, trying to find an appropriate word.

"Something that belongs in a Blasto movie?" she finished, since the plots of those movies were rather ridiculous as well.

"Blasto has got nothing on me, but there is a saying: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. I know myself, and I studied the Batarians, their reactions, their protocols and security systems, religious beliefs, everything, and when you can think exactly like your enemies do, they become rather predictable and easy to defeat" Shepard explained half the reason for his success.

The rest was overwhelming violence and having bigger guns than the enemy.

"Where is that saying from?" She half turned to him, curious.

"There is a book, written about 2700 years ago, called the Art of War, its from there"

"I should read that sometimes"

Presidium

Huerta Memorial Hospital

As the best medical care provider in the Citadel, Huerta Memorial has been chosen as the location, while experts in cybernetic augmentations and genetic modifications have been brought by the Asari, Salarian and Turians to oversee the examination and to ensure nothing escaped notice. There were also human overseers as it had been agreed.

He removed his navy blues and handed his side arm to Morrigan and went inside.

"Welcome Commander, I am Dr. Lysara Mykaela, and I will be leading this examination. Per the deal, we will take a tissue and blood sample as well as give you a full physical scan. All samples and the data will be destroyed provided there is nothing out of the ordinary." The Asari in white gown explained and then introduced her colleagues.

"Whatever Doc, let's get this over with" Shepard held out his arm and a Salarian with a needle approached, taking a syringe of blood and a tissue sample, with no reaction from the Commander.

"Thank you Commander, please if you can lay down now" Dr. Lysara pointed at the medical table with a scanner.

Shepard laid down, waiting as the machine worked, scanning him over and over. After five minutes he started to get annoyed.

"How long is this going to take again?" Shepard turned to the doctor who was busy with a datapad.

"This type of scanner is for extremely detailed images, and will take a couple minutes more" She said without turning to him, still engrossed in the first wave of data provided.

Shepard just sighed.

True to the Asari's word, it was over two minutes later.

"You can get up now Commander, thank you for your cooperation" Dr Lysara gave a small bow.

Shepard got up and rolled his shoulders.

"Is there anything else or am I free to go?" He asked, after all medical personnel weren't the type to let things go easily.

"There is nothing else Commander, we will inform your ambassador, as well as the Council of our findings" She said, showing him to the door.

"Alright"

Not like there was anything to find.

"Commander, here are your shawarmas" Bau said, handing him a bag, while eating another himself.

"None for me?" Tela asked, and Bau blinked in the "are you serious" way the Salarians did.

"Here" he handed her a bag with her favourite food.

"Thanks Bau" She said, tearing up the paper and taking a bite of the high calorie sandwich. Being a biotic burned a lot of energy after all.

"Alright boys, eat up, we're gonna meet the big wigs of the galaxy, well me mostly, you two just need to look pretty" He sat on the empty bench, taking a huge bite and nodding. As expected, the shawarma in the galaxy's capital was really good.

"Yes sir" Usually they would have to eat in turns as protocol, but two Spectres and Commander Shepard were present.

If anything, the N2s would be the ones in need of protection.

Tela and Bau's omni-tools beeped, and they stopped eating to check it out.

"Commander, it seems you will be meeting the Council tomorrow when the researchers finish their work. In the meantime we will hand you over to your ambassador" Bau said, already thinking of another Spectre to pawn off this task, a sentiment shared by Tela.

Sometimes it was hard, being two of the Council's top agents.

"Udina? Ugh. I hate that guy" While Shepard hadn't met the Humanity's ambassador to the Citadel face to face, he heard enough of his conversations to know the man was irritating.

"See Bau, even the Humans don't like Udina" Tela said to the Salarian who smirked.

"What can I say, Tela, ambassador Udina certainly knows how to make himself disliked" Bau said, watching the Commander for any reaction.

The man didn't appear to care.

"You have quite the fan base Commander" Bau changed the subject. They weren't trying to start trouble with the Human, but to see his reactions.

After all, if any Human was going to be a Spectre, it was Jonathan Shepard.

"You should bring down a government or two, Bau. You might have fans that adore you too" Shepard

"I am afraid I don't have grand ambitions such as that" Bau crossed his arms, he could do without rabid fans to hound him.

"What, no intention of following the Silent Step?" Shepard mentioned the Salarian STG figure, known for defeating a nation with a single shot.

"A nation, perhaps, but an interstellar empire, even one as weak as the Batarians? Not so much. Though I'll admit, not many beings know the Silent Step, and it is interesting to meet a human that does" Bau was pleasantly surprised, as most sapients, civilians with no grand thoughts about the galaxy, did not care enough to learn the legends of other races.

"I like studying various cultures, gives me an insight into their society and thought patterns" Shepard said, getting up to leave and meet humanity's ambassador.

"Just like you studied the Batarians?" Tela opened her mouth, deciding she observed enough.

The N2s and Bau stopped dead cold, realizing just what the Asari spectre insinuated.

"No, after all they were the only enemy the Alliance had" Shepard said with a shrug.

Tela smirked.

It would be fun to have Shepard join the ranks of the Special Tactics and Reconnaissance.

Presidium

Human Embassy

"Ah, Commander Shepard, come in please" Udina said, getting up to shake the Commander's hand.

Someone who had done one of the greatest services to humanity would be an excellent ally to have.

"Thank you Spectres, I will bring Commander to the Council tomorrow"

The Asari and Salarian duo nodded, wishing them a good day before leaving.

"I have to say, it is my pleasure to meet you Commander" Udina said, donning his best smile to charm the Commander.

"Wish I could say the same ambassador, but half the Alliance Navy Command finds you annoying, so I won't"

Urdnot Wrex, Overlord of the Krogan Clans, Interview by Citadel News Network

"Even the Krogan females tried to mate with Shepard, and they only go for Krogan, that should tell you how good he is. But he also has something most Krogan males don't, charisma and cunning. Shepard could convince a Batarian that the destruction Khar'shan faced was a good thing, and rally people to fight to death. Most people think he is a soldier that knows how to kill better than everyone else, but he also is the kind of leader the galaxy won't ever see again"

Answer to the question of "How would you describe Commander Shepard?"

Notes: Next chapter is Shepard meeting the Council and beginning of the Terminus Campaign. I intend to skip that rather quickly, and get to the start of the first game.
