Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 I am the one who is hurt, why have you been away for so long?

"We are currently in the Administrative Building. The building next to it leads into Block C of the Prison."

"There are also Block A and Block B, which seem to be used for holding criminals."

"Behind the Prison area, there are also the prisoner mess hall, library, and recreation room, as well as workshops for criminal labor reform."

The overall structure of the Prison wasn't particularly complex, and from a bird's-eye view, it was even simpler.

However, in the depths of the Prison, many areas were overrun with Walkers.

Most areas were completely dark, and without electricity, nothing could be used.

This added to the difficulty of attacking the Prison.

Shawn snapped back to reality, looking at the computer on the desk, deep in thought.

"Since she is the Prison Warden, her computer should be able to access the Prison's surveillance system, consolidating all Prison cameras, if the Prison system is still functional…"

"It seems the plan to attack the Prison can only be taken one step at a time."

"First, go to the Power Generation Room. I remember there's a generator there capable of supporting the entire Prison's operations."

"Turn on the generator first; that will make clearing the internal Walkers much easier."

"But in the plot, turning on the generator triggers an alarm, and to turn on the main power switch, the alarm must first be shut off."

"Usually, the switch might be found in the Prison Warden's office…"

However, Shawn had already searched the Prison Warden's office thoroughly but still found nothing.

"It shouldn't be because I didn't Search carefully enough; if it's not here, the alarm should be in the Prison guard duty room."

"Duty room… duty room…"

Shawn pressed his finger on the structural map, searching carefully.

It wasn't until he reached the gap between Prison Block C and Block B that he found the location of the duty room.

To be precise, there were several duty rooms, distributed throughout various areas of the Prison.

However, the duty room connecting Block C and Block B was the only one with a special mark.

If there was an alarm switch, Shawn believed it must be there.

Having collected useful information, this trip to the Administrative Building was not in vain.

"Let everyone move in tonight. Daryl said there's a cafeteria on the first floor with an iron door, and they'll be fine sleeping there."

While thinking, Shawn came to the Deputy Warden's office to Search.

Searching through it, he found a large pile of colorful items similar to those in the Prison Warden's office. Shawn cursed under his breath.

Both the Prison Warden and the Deputy Warden were like this; no wonder the Prison fell so easily, with nothing being done in time.

He opened the filing cabinet, but it was only filled with erotic clothing and 'bedding.'

Shawn was immediately furious!

"Damn it, not even a gun?!"

Immediately, Shawn put all these items into his system backpack, leaving nothing behind… on the first floor of the Administrative Building.

As Shane walked downstairs, Rick's gaze immediately fell on him.

The moment their eyes met, through Shane's eyes, Rick suddenly found a familiar feeling.

People came and went, voices were chaotic, but the two of them felt as if they had returned to their first meeting outside the police station.

"Hi, I'm Rick. I'll be your guide from now on."

"Sir, my name is Shane, Police Academy Class 39. It's a pleasure to work with you!"

Rick and Shane

But the scene quickly changed.

Now, Rick's face was covered with a thin layer of stubble, and he looked almost 20 years older.

And Shane, who had stopped in his tracks, was no longer the hot-blooded young man he once was; his broad shoulders had reached the age of bearing responsibility.

The two looked at each other, and the surrounding chatter grew quieter and quieter.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and watched them.

They seemed to smell something different, but they weren't as sensitive as Rick.

Maggie subconsciously looked up at the second floor of the stairs, because if Rick and Shane were to clash, perhaps only Shawn could suppress them.

After a brief pause, Shane pursed his lips and stepped forward, stopping in front of Rick.

The atmosphere around the two almost solidified. Glenn was about to step forward to mediate, but then he heard Shane speak first.

"Sir, I'm sorry, I'm back."

Shane's logic was disjointed; why was "I'm back" immediately followed by "I'm sorry"?

But Rick, who had been staring directly into Shane's eyes, showed a look of sudden understanding, perhaps only he could comprehend it.

His eyes flickered slightly.

Under everyone's gaze, he directly pulled Shane into a hug.

Rick's fingertips were white as he and Shane embraced tightly.

"Brother… wasn't I the one who was injured? Why did you leave for so long?"

Rick whispered in Shane's ear, his eyes uncontrollably reddening.

Rick had once been angry and blaming, but in the end, he chose to let go and forgive.

The damn apocalypse ruined everything. It was like an avalanche, crushing everyone standing at the foot of the snowy mountain.

Rick couldn't blame Lori, and he couldn't blame Shane either.

What would he have been like without Shane back then?

What would Lori and little Carl have been like?

Rick didn't dare to think about it, but he could vaguely sense the outcome without even thinking.

That's why Rick had always been very tolerant of Shane.

Rick would never lay a hand on Shane unless it came to drawing guns and swords.

His affection for Shane remained, and Shane's affection for him was no less.

It was just that there had always been a difficult-to-cross wall between the two of them.

Sunlight streamed in through the window of the Administrative Building office, falling directly on Rick's face, making Shane feel warm as well.

Their two hearts were closest at this moment.

Both of them also had a special premonition—that obstructing wall had finally crumbled.

"Welcome back, brother."

Rick tried to rein in his softer side, but despite this, his lips still trembled slightly.

After losing everything, Shane was like a brother to Rick; the bond between them was no less than that between Daryl and Merle.

He gently patted Shane's shoulder, feeling a sense of peace from his broad shoulders.

Shane also looked at Rick, but just as he was about to say something, a third person's voice came from behind him.

"…Am I interrupting?"

Everyone turned to look, only to see Shawn descending the stairs, carrying a giant hammer.

He looked at Shane and Rick's actions, showing no surprise on his face; instead, he felt it was as it should be.

"How was it upstairs?"

Rick wiped the corners of his eyes, quickly changing the subject.

"Oh—it was pretty good. Not much in terms of supplies, but I collected some useful things."

Shawn said truthfully, but he didn't mention the 'treasure cabinet' found in the Deputy Warden's office.

"Shane, there are no Walkers on the second floor anymore, right?"

Shawn looked at Shane.

"No traces of Walkers found. Probably only those dozen or so."

Shane took a deep breath and replied.

Actually, Shawn had also taken a quick look when he came downstairs and found nothing unusual.

Asking again was to have this news come from Shane's mouth.

This would both reassure the other members and gradually increase Shane's influence in the Camp through his actual contributions.

After all, every Walker on the second floor had been taken down by Shane himself; Shawn hadn't really helped much.

"Good." Shawn came to the center of everyone's attention: "Since that's the case, the Administrative Building is officially declared cleared."

"Everyone, please put in a little more effort. Wear your protective gear and throw all the Walker bodies onto the lawn."

"Tonight, we will officially move into the Administrative Building. Everyone can rest in the cafeteria on the first floor."

Shawn's words brought joy to everyone's hearts.

This was the first day of officially clearing the Prison. Although they didn't say it aloud, most people were actually a bit anxious.

It wasn't until Shawn declared the clearing a success that they all breathed a sigh of relief, undisguised smiles on their faces.

"Daryl found some spaghetti and cornmeal in the cafeteria earlier."

"There are also a few portable stoves inside, so we can have some barbecue tonight."

Merle cheered loudly, raising his rifle and doing an awkward dance.

"Jesus, can't you just settle down for a bit?"

Daryl stood next to him, frowning, and unceremoniously kicked him.
