Chapter 75 - Chapter 75 Carl's determination!

"Don't even think about it."

"If we encounter trouble we can't solve, we'll find a way to pull out immediately."

Shawn reassured him slightly.

Rick looked up at him.

After a long moment, he gently nodded.

However, through Rick's eyes just now, Shawn realized that Rick was more worried about Shane.

Shane had always been somewhat impatient and impulsive, and Rick, as his brother, understood him better than anyone.

As for Shawn… it seemed there was really nothing to worry about.

So far, Shawn had been in many situations where an ordinary person would have died, but he had pulled through them all, hadn't he?

"Perhaps you could go in wearing Rick's tank gear."

Lori offered two cups of warm water to Shawn and Rick, suggesting it proactively.

"No need."

Shawn shook his head, took the cup, and drank it all at once, feeling much better.

He was covered head to toe in gear that provided stats, no worse than tank gear.

The main reason, however, was that Shawn found that stuff too troublesome; it restricted his movements, and wearing it would actually decrease his combat effectiveness.

By only bringing Shane, Shawn already intended to go in 'lightly equipped'.

As they spoke, Shane, already dressed in his 'tank gear', walked over.

He held a long shotgun, with a machete and a pistol at his waist, and a small pouch slung across his chest, filled with 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

A 12-gauge shotgun, with an actual bore diameter of 18.5mm, is equivalent to the diameter of a 1/12 pound lead ball.

Compared to the 20-gauge Shawn used before, the 12-gauge could almost be used for hunting large animals; using it on Walkers was overkill.

However, in the crowded and confined passages of the Prison, it might have an unexpected effect.

Withdrawing his gaze, Shawn nodded to Shane.

He turned and walked out, carrying his hammer, with Shane following closely behind him, a hint of grimness on his face.

It seemed Shane vaguely sensed why Shawn was only bringing him inside…

The two walked all the way to the iron gate at the back entrance of C Block before Shawn turned around to look at Rick and the others who had come to see them off.

"We will definitely be out before dark, but if we're not, you absolutely must not blindly come in looking for us."

"During the day, use cold weapons to clear out the Walkers in the recreation yard, and try not to make too much noise; the fence might not hold."

Shawn said, raising his hand to point at the iron fence behind them, which Glenn had locked for the second time.

With the iron fence for protection, everyone only needed to use long cold weapons like crowbars to pick them off one by one; it wasn't very dangerous.

"It's best to let those in the Camp who haven't personally killed a Walker try it; this is a good opportunity for practice."

Rick nodded, and Daryl walked up behind him.

"Are you sure you don't need our help?"

"If you ask, we'll all go in with you."

Daryl's voice was still low; he shifted his feet slightly back and forth, like an Agility panther ready to fight to the death, full of battle spirit.

"You know my temper." Shawn twirled the Stone Hammer in his hand: "While I'm gone, help me guard the Camp."

"Understood." Daryl nodded dully.

But as soon as Daryl left, Carol approached.

She had been exhausted yesterday, sleeping until now, only to hear the news that 'Shawn was going into the Prison'.

Carol gently hugged Shawn, looking directly into his eyes.

"There's potatoes and horse meat tonight. I'll have it ready, waiting for you to come out."

Shawn instinctively avoided Carol's gaze, feeling a bit shy.

"Of course, Shane and I worked today, so we'll have two bowls."

"Oh, and this."

Shawn took out the lady's pistol he had found in the office yesterday and handed it to Carol.

He wasn't sure if it was his imagination, but he always felt that Carol was treating him like her own son…

Carol was naturally a gentle person; within a few exchanges, her eyes had already reddened slightly.

When she stepped back, Shawn was about to move when he found his thigh being hugged by a small figure.

"Sophia…" Shawn said softly, a little helplessly.

When Shawn looked down, Sophia, who barely reached his waist, was looking up at him with her small head, and Carl stood beside her.

Sophia held Shawn's thigh with one hand and tightly clutched her doll with the other, not making a sound.

It seemed that at this moment, only feeling Shawn's body warmth could make her feel better.

Shawn stroked her head, feeling a bit of affection.

Quiet, well-behaved, introverted… unlike Carl, Sophia's personality was suited for growing up under protection and safety.

For her, she neither wished nor was adept at facing the harshness of the apocalypse.

Looking at Sophia, Shawn opened his mouth, but the words he wanted to say couldn't come out.

He just gently stroked Sophia's head, quietly staying with her for a while.

It wasn't until Sophia actively walked away, holding her doll, that Shawn looked at the young master.

Carl was no longer as clingy as yesterday; he just clenched his small fists, looking at Shawn stubbornly.

"Shawn, when exactly can I go on missions with you guys?"

Hearing this, not only Rick and Lori, but even Shane, who was beside Shawn, couldn't help but want to speak.

But somehow remembering something, Shane closed his mouth again, his expression becoming a bit colder.

Shawn thought for a moment, understanding dawning in his eyes.

In the original plot, Carl had a particular fondness for killing Walkers.

Of course, this wasn't some strange quirk.

For Carl, there was both environmental pressure and a desire for self-worth.

But most importantly, Carl's heart always harbored hope; he always wanted to fight for 'guarding'.

Carl's eagerness to join missions was akin to many children's desire to grow up quickly.

So Shawn squatted down, pressing Carl's face against his own, and they both looked at the distant lawn.

"See those outermost barbed wire fences?" Shawn raised his hand and pointed.

Carl squinted, trying hard to see, and nodded seriously.

"Because of the corridor, there are inner and outer barbed wire fences, and the diameter of each hole in the barbed wire is about 5 centimeters."

"As long as, on some future day, you can use the bow I made for you, from 3 meters away from the barbed wire, penetrate the holes of both barbed wire fences separately and kill a Walker."

"At that time, you can join me as a core member of the team to carry out Camp missions."

Shawn's words made Daryl, who was nearby, couldn't help but show a strange expression.

Even he, with a crossbow, might not be able to achieve such precision, and the bow in Carl's hand was practically a toy in comparison; this was almost an impossible goal.

And such an instinctive reaction also appeared on the faces of the other people in the Camp.

Clearly.

This 'challenge' was too much even for adults, let alone a child like Carl.

But after Carl heard it, he just nodded heavily again.

"I can do it!"

Young Master Carl

"I look forward to the day you can watch my back."

Shawn smiled and patted Carl's shoulder.

This time, he and Shane turned and walked directly through the iron gate without hesitation.
