Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Damn Possession

VR Roguelike Game: Loop Blood

In this game, Souls-like and Roguelike elements merge into an immersive virtual reality experience.

My real life was mundane, like running on a hamster wheel. But I became obsessed with this virtual reality game, seeking excitement and adventure.

I loved the intense battles, wearing heavy armor and teetering on the edge of life and death.

The parrying system was the game's biggest draw for me.

The satisfaction of skillfully parrying a sword strike that could have killed me, and the exhilaration of finding an opening and defeating enemies were unmatched.

I even enjoyed reflecting arrows with a well-timed parry and using them to eliminate archers.

With the modern warfare mode, I could even parry bullets, which gave me immense satisfaction as I cut down soldiers with my sword.

"I've done everything there is to do."

Apart from mods, I had completed the main story over 90 times, within just three months of the game's release.

The fastest speedrun record on YouTube was 42 minutes and 39 seconds, but I had beaten that with a record in the 39-minute range.

Still, I decided to start the game once more.

Casually, I defeated the final boss monster, the 'Undying King', and clicked to end the game.

Soon after, I received an email from the digital game distributor, Steam site.

The sender was Hideo Miyazaki, the lead developer of Loop Blood.

[Email]

Thank you for continuously enjoying our recently released game 'Loop Blood', as well as the previous games in the Loop series. [Don'tScrewMeOver], as a special bonus for your love of our games, we would like to offer you an invitation to our next project. We are planning to create an open-world game in our unique style, removing the limitations of rogue-like elements. We will reach out to you once we are ready.

"Oh, this is going to be exciting."

Reading the email made me simply happy.

I eagerly anticipated another great game to pass the time. And a week after receiving the email, I finally understood the purpose of the invitation.

Shuaaaaaah— A powerful gust of wind swept through the forest.

A man lying in the bushes opened his eyes.

"Hey, this guy. He's awake."

With ash-gray hair and blue eyes, and pale white skin, he possessed an elegant appearance that could be described as 'aristocratic'.

"Brother, doesn't this guy look like a noble? He's so refined in his looks."

Melau, a scrawny man, made a comment, but Aaron, a rough-looking man, shook his head.

"Would a noble wear such shabby leather clothes? He's just a handsome commoner."

The man with the aristocratic appearance slowly opened his eyes.

"Where am I..."

He didn't even spare a glance at Melau and Aaron, who pointed their short swords at him.

"This guy isn't even paying attention after waking up."

The man's gaze was fixed on the air, specifically on the multiple windows floating in front of his eyes.

Welcome, Do Not Scoff At Me.

You can return to the real world by clearing the game.

Suddenly thrown into this absurd situation within the game, he quickly started thinking, driven by survival instinct or perhaps the consideration of those who had brought him here.

'Absolute Counterattack.'

Among the special bonuses he had received, he was certain that this skill was the most crucial.

Absolute Counterattack was a reflective technique that could be used after successfully parrying an attack.

'I need to let them attack first.'

He had to successfully deflect an attack to trigger a parry and counterattack.

It was a costly move, but using Absolute Counterattack was the only way he could think of.

His own status window floated in front of his eyes, displaying his terrible stats with no growth potential.

Despite this, he had confidence in his parrying abilities.

Throughout various virtual reality games, including Loof Blood, he had never allowed his parrying accuracy to drop below 100%, even when engaging in silly antics like fighting in his underwear.

"Hey, you bastard. Don't ignore people like that. Empty your pockets of all money and items. If you don't have anything, strip off those rags you're wearing," Aaron threatened, pointing his sword at the man's neck.

The man remained calm due to his composure trait.

"What's the point of carrying around a sword if you can't even stab with it?" he provocatively taunted, aiming to uncover the hidden item in the pouch at the man's waist.

Upon touching it, he could see the information of the dagger.

The man's provocation enraged Aaron, causing his eyes to turn red.

"You commoner bastard with the looks of a noble's servant!" he exclaimed.

The short sword swiftly rushed towards the man's upper body.

The man didn't even consider using "Bullet Time."

The [Lv. 10] floating above Aaron's head indicated that he was merely a low-level mob compared to a monster.

The skill that seemed designed to save his life was not worth using against such an opponent.

He man clearly saw the trajectory of the incoming attack, having witnessed it countless times in Loop Blood. He swung the dagger held in a reverse grip.

The clash between the short sword and the dagger resulted in a successful parry, with the short sword deflected backwards.

Simultaneously, a purple streak extended from the dagger, curving like a scythe and grazing Aaron's neck.

[Absolute Counter]

Aaron's head fell to the ground, blood spraying like a fountain.

Witnessing his leader's death, Melau screamed in horror.

The man walked forward, looking at Melau contemptuously with his chin raised.

"Aren't you going to attack?" he asked.

Melau couldn't calm his pounding heart.

From the beginning, he had never wanted to engage with this man.

Despite peacefully sleeping in the bushes, there was something about his noble aura that made him anything but ordinary.

"Then I'll come to you," the man declared, raising his right arm with the dagger in an unguarded angle.

"Damn it!" Melau finally made his move, his attack more precise than the man's.

Just before Melau's short sword reached the man's neck, the man successfully parried once again.

His parrying skills surpassed the ordinary. Once again, a purple aura curled from the dagger's tip, resembling a scythe.

Slash───

Melau's head fell, his eyes wide open, unable to accept his impending death.

The man gazed at the two headless corpses with an expressionless face.

"Damn," he cursed, unable to suppress his emotions from his homeland.

"What kind of game have they dropped me into?" he wondered aloud, reopening his status window.

The name field remained blank.

'Can't use DoNotScoffAtMe.'

In a way, it might be fitting for the situation better than any other name.

Now that the game had become a reality, he needed to choose a name suitable for this world.

"Yuma."

He selected an old nickname that sounded dignified enough.

Once he acknowledged his choice of the name 'Yuma,' it became engraved in his status window.

Yuma

Level: 1

Alignment: Good

Personality Trait: Cool-headed

Strength: 10

Stamina: 25

Defense: 10

Agility: 30

Growth Potential: 0 - Ordinary

His terrible stats remained unchanged.

However, he couldn't help but wonder why his alignment was still Good after beheading two people.

Yuma easily deduced that the two men he killed had Evil alignments. Killing those with an Evil alignment did not alter his own alignment.

"I need to head to a village," Yuma decided.

With some tension released, he felt an extreme hunger.

He searched through the two men's pockets and found a total of 1300 cents.

Yuma knew the worth of 1300 cents, as it was also used in Loop Blood.

It would be enough for a week's lodging and meals at an inn.

"I also need proper clothes," he thought, realizing the need to discard his old leather attire.

With his thoughts organized, Yuma began descending the mountain, unconsciously displaying a noble gait, thanks to the Noble trait.
