Chapter 1 - New Life

'Tell me what you want' Jean asked his star-eyed lover. His tongue was moving back and forth, drawing imaginary lines on her temple. This was Vera, his Vera. She should always be his, no matter how far she went. Vera left him for some idiot, but now she was back. Fully his, in his arms and would be there forever if he had his way.

'I want you, Jean' That was his clue. He shifted the duvet and found his way behind her. She was, after all, his small spoon. Fragile, yet held the key to driving him nuts. It had never been casual with them, instead there had been tornadoes and earthquakes each time they met. Vera was soft yet fierce, Jean was bold and wild. A perfect little match for their souls.

He pressed into her behind, his essence hard as a rock. It'd always been that way with Vera. Her smell was enough to make him heady and his body always responded to her subtle movements. He cupped her beneath her ribcage and pressed his face into her collarbone. This was perfect. His body screamed a million things, but there was no rush. They had all the time in the world to rekindle their flame.

Vera nestled in his arms and remembered the first time they were together. That was the last time she was with any man, but he never knew. Jean was the only match for her fierce Spirit. Edward tried but the flame was never there. His breath was hot against her cheek and he was so still like he had slept. The only indicator that he was awake was the constant movement of his eyelashes against her cheek. Oh, how she loved him. Her insides ached with anticipation. It would happen any moment from now, and she would keep the memory forever.

There was an unspoken peace in the room, even though time had passed and the emotions were high. Vera felt like a little child again. Her inner wolf was breathing peacefully. He had not made a sound since she stepped into Jean's arms. His wolf too was oddly silent. For someone who was the alpha's heir, the silence was unusual.

He would always throw jabs at his wolf for talking too much, especially if they were in the company of people. But today, he seemed content to wait for Jean's order. Each was lost in their thoughts, thinking of what should have been. Their bodies synced perfectly, they were made for each other. Yet, the war raged on just outside the door.
