Chapter 46 - The Ghost-Seed

Adriana looked back toward the tunnel where her mother was currently a vortex of starlight and grey sludge. She couldn't save her mother, and she couldn't stop the drill. But she could change the definition of the target.

She knelt and slammed the Green Key into a natural fissure in the schist bedrock.

"I am the Weaver," she whispered, her voice merging with the stone. "And this city is no longer your resource. It is a Live Glitch."

The Great Desynchronization

As the Key merged with the bedrock, a shockwave of emerald and violet energy didn't blast upward—it rippled outward.

The drill hit the stone, but instead of piercing it, the bit passed through the ground as if it were a holographic projection. The Overseers' logic-sensors began to scream. To the Empire State Hub, New York City had suddenly moved three feet to the left. Then two seconds into the future. Then into a different frequency entirely.

The city hadn't moved physically; it had become Desynchronized.
