Chapter 78 - Chapter 78: Novice Dragon Tamer

On Saturday, Harry, who had obtained the Dragon Training Manual, went to Hagrid's hut.

The so-called Dragon Training Manual was a thin parchment booklet. Last Christmas, Harry and his friends stayed in the village for quite some time, and Klee took him to participate in the care of four small dragons.

Howl, who did not get the Runes tome, settled for the next best thing and acquired a Dragon Training Manual exclusive to Vikings.

This was the one he held in his hand now.

As he approached the hut, even through the door, Harry could hear Hagrid teasing Norbert.

Norbert was the name he gave to the little dragon.

"Hagrid." Harry knocked on the door. After a moment, Hagrid quickly opened the door and let him in.

Hagrid's house was in chaos at this time, with various iron pots and pans on the dining table scattered on the floor. Norbert, who was almost the size of a millstone, poked his head into the fireplace, directly picked up a burning piece of firewood, and frolicked around.

"Oh, good boy, you can't play with this." Hagrid quickly picked up Norbert and took away the firewood. The little dragon seemed very displeased and sprayed at Hagrid, with sparks bursting from its mouth and landing on Hagrid's beard.

"Oh!" Hagrid quickly patted his beard, looking at Harry awkwardly: "He's really naughty, isn't he?"

Harry helplessly watched the little dragon constantly flapping its limbs, trying to escape Hagrid's powerful embrace, and handed over the book in his hand: "Hagrid, this is for you."

"What is this?" Hagrid took the book in confusion.

"This is a Dragon Training Manual from the Vikings, I borrowed it from Howl. I think it must be better than 'Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit'."

"Alright, let me see..." Hagrid clamped the little dragon, and Harry's forehead broke out in a sweat, worrying that he would crush the little dragon to death, and also fearing that the struggling little dragon would damage the book.

Fortunately, none of that happened.

However, Hagrid's expression changed, and he immediately returned the book: "What? This is impossible!!!"

"What's wrong?" Harry looked puzzled. Could it be that there was some forbidden bloody knowledge in the book? He had just glanced at it briefly; wasn't it just teaching people how to establish a hierarchy with dragons and how to use special magic patterns to make people and dragons communicate telepathically?

"Impossible, let him go hungry, he's so small." Hagrid quickly said.

Hearing Hagrid's words, Harry froze in place, and then saw the little dragon finally jump out of Hagrid's arms, immediately burrowing into the fireplace and rummaging around, turning all the burning firewood upside down.

Instantly, the entire hut became a flurry of activity, and Harry quickly raised his hand, extinguishing the firewood with a Fresh Water Charm.

"Caw-caw-caw--"

Norbert laughed in the fireplace, a harsh and grating sound that made Harry feel even more helpless.

"Hagrid, if you spoil him like this, it's the same as a normal person raising a large dog without discipline and letting it go out and harm others," Harry said seriously.

"Oh, no way, how could he hurt anyone?" Hagrid said, "He's just a bit naughty."

Harry looked him directly in the eyes and said, "In a month, when his throat organs are fully developed, and you don't discipline him, he could set your house on fire and then fly away. Perhaps to the Quidditch Pitch, or perhaps fly to the Castle lawn and harm other students."

"He won't, you think too badly of him." Hagrid sat down indifferently.

"He will, you think too highly of him, you spoil him too much." Harry said seriously, "Hagrid, you can lie to others, but don't lie to yourself.

You need to know that this is a school, and what's most abundant here is a group of children with little fighting ability."

Saying that, he pushed the book towards Hagrid: "Raising without taming is a crime. Hagrid, this is a responsibility, not something that can be vaguely dismissed by saying you love him.

Don't wait until a tragedy happens one day, when you lose him, to regret it bitterly!"

Hagrid's two large hands intertwined, and he said nothing. His face was very unpleasant, and the rosy complexion he had earlier was now considerably dimmed.

His gaze rested on the book Harry had given him. It was a very old book, and it looked quite valuable. He understood that it was filled with Harry's good intentions.

But...

"I can't do it!" Hagrid said, spreading his hands towards Norbert: "He's so small."

"It's only useful when he's small. Once he grows into a wild dragon, he won't understand human speech."

However, Hagrid still couldn't bear it. In his opinion, it was simply abuse.

"Then I'll do it?" Harry looked at Hagrid. It was impossible for him not to have this idea at all, but he chose to respect Hagrid's wishes.

"Can you?" Hagrid looked at him uncertainly.

Harry certainly couldn't guarantee it: "I can try, and if I do it, then you must listen to me. You can't spoil him anymore, otherwise he won't listen to me at all."

"Then you try it." Hagrid nodded helplessly.

Harry took the book and carefully flipped through it, realizing that many of the dragon-taming methods required the participation of Potions and spells. The methods were similar to training a large dog.

It seemed this would be a major project.

After he finished reading the content of the book, he immediately took the feeding rights from Hagrid. And he made Hagrid swear by Dumbledore that he would never secretly feed Norbert.

Hagrid immediately turned red with anger, gritting his teeth as he swore.

After doing all this, he returned to the Castle and wrote a letter for Hedwig to deliver to the Potion shop in Diagon Alley, to purchase ingredients for brewing dragon attractant.

Dragon attractant is a Potion with a very strong attraction for dragons. The brewing method is not difficult; in fact, it can be categorized as an herbal remedy, only requiring basic ingredients such as lanolin, flavor-enhancing grass, and double-horned snake skin...

On Sunday evening, Harry looked at the dying Norbert, who was rubbing against his hand, and finally took out the prepared cooked food and placed it in front of him.

Dragons are not stubborn; in their infancy, they can only rely on their mothers to survive. It is only at this time, by building a good relationship, that their wildness can be gradually eliminated.

Hagrid watched from the side, finally sighing in relief. Seeing Norbert hungry, tears were almost falling from his eyes.

"Don't worry, Hagrid, this is not abuse." Harry comforted him, "On the contrary, proper training is a true expression of love for him.

What doesn't need training, only endless satisfaction of food requirements, is livestock."

As he was speaking, the window of the hut was knocked on. A dusty barn owl with a letter in its beak was tapping on the window sill with its claws.

"Oh, Harry, help me open the window." Hagrid said, as Harry and Norbert were blocking him from the window.

"Okay." Harry stood up, opened the window, and took the owl's letter.
