As usual, once night fell, Deon secretly followed the Emperor again. To his surprise, the Emperor repeated the same routine every night. She silently stood before the same house. Strangely, she never knocked and never spoke. She simply stood there until dawn before returning to her tower.
Day after day, and night after night… It was as though she had completely forgotten she even had a hostage staying in the Royal Palace.
Finally, one evening, the Emperor visited his room for the first time.
"He hasn't touched his food for an entire week?" Cassia asked one of the attendants in his room. "Does he think I'm trying to poison him?"
"Perhaps the food simply isn't to his liking, Your Majesty. We can only prepare dishes commonly eaten in the Demon Land."
Cassia frowned slightly. "Didn't I give you the recipes for human cuisine?"
