Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Iridium Luck Day

It was very late.

Daeron undressed and went to bed, several place names revolving in his mind.

"The Citadel, Pentos, The Vale, Skagos..."

These were all locations where dragon eggs were confirmed or suspected to be.

With the obsession of finding dragon eggs, Daeron fell into a peaceful sleep.

Early morning, 2:00 AM.

The Dragon Language Farm was silent; the night sky was a deep, pitch black without a single speck of light.

Suddenly, a faint fluttering of wings broke the silence, and a glimmer of light appeared in the night sky, bobbing up and down.

The sleeping Daeron seemed to sense something, and his brow, which had been tense during the day, gradually relaxed.

The light revealed its true form.

It was a well-proportioned Sprite, wearing a pink dress and only as large as an adult's palm.

"Hee hee."

The pink Sprite flew over to the tilled land where seeds had been planted. A flash of appreciation crossed its clear eyes, and it let out a silver-bell-like, innocent laugh.

Waving its magic wand—bling bling—it sprinkled powder filled with Life Force.

Then, it quickly vanished into the night sky... The next day, early morning.

Daeron woke up at 6:00 AM sharp. After eating some simple dry rations, he felt full of energy.

"Time for the old farmer to water the crops again."

With a sense of novelty and anticipation for the farm, he pushed open the cabin door.

Daeron froze: "Huh?"

On the 3x3 tilled plot by the door, the nine unsprouted seeds were gone, replaced by nine fully matured crops.

"How many days did I sleep for?"

Daeron hurriedly opened his panel to check the time in the upper right corner.

Spring, Day 2, Sunny, 6:05 AM.

"The date is correct."

Experiencing this for the first time, Daeron's mind couldn't quite process it for a moment.

These aren't my crops; my crops weren't this mature.

"No, wait—the Sprite event must have triggered during the night."

Shaking his head to clear away the strange thoughts, Daeron found the truth.

On a farm in stardew valley, there is a small probability of triggering random events every night.

Witches, Sprites, meteors, owl statues, and so on.

The Sprite event was undoubtedly one of the most helpful, as it could directly ripen immature crops within a certain range.

"What incredible luck."

Daeron couldn't stop the corners of his mouth from curling up as he rolled up his sleeves to harvest the crops.

Pop~ Pop pop~~

He pulled out a radish-like Parsnip with his bare hands, then yanked out two bulbous heads of Cauliflower. The moment the roots left the soil, they made a pleasing thudding sound.

He picked the Green Beans; instead of a single bean like in the game, it was a handful of ten beans from a single cluster.

"That's reasonable. It would be weirder to only pick one bean at a time."

Daeron nodded emphatically.

After putting away the three types of bundle crops, he proceeded to dig up the Potatoes from five plots.

Potato: Matures in 6 days, single harvest, chance to yield multiples.

"I hope I get a few extra potatoes," Daeron muttered, leaning over to dig.

As he dug up the fourth Potato, a gentle warm current filled his entire body, causing him to freeze in place, still bent over.

[You have some things you want to think about at the end of the day]

A line of inconspicuous small text popped up on the panel.

"My Farming level increased."

Daeron resumed his movements, feeling a richer understanding of Life Force.

He pulled up the farm panel.

[Farmer: Daeron Targaryen]

Farming: Level 1

Mining: Level 0

Foraging: Level 0

Fishing: Level 0

Combat: Level 0

Sure enough, Farming had reached Level 1.

Once he went to bed tonight, he estimated the crafting panel would unlock new items.

"Harvesting a batch of crops on the second day—after selling them, I can buy more seeds and accelerate capital accumulation."

Daeron stretched his body and went back to digging up potatoes.

It had to be said, his luck really seemed to be excellent.

One plot yielded three potatoes, three plots yielded two each, and the last plot yielded one.

A total of ten potatoes—exactly double the amount of seeds planted.

Sensing the abundant Life Force of the crops, he discovered that three of the ten potatoes were even of Silver Star quality.

"Please don't let this be the 'luck at the cost of lifespan' trope."

Daeron's expression changed slightly as he hurried back to the cabin.

Looking at the history of the Targaryen Family, members named Daeron Targaryen were never simple. There was 'Daeron the Daring,' the 'Young Dragon,' and later Daeron II, who suppressed the first Blackfyre Rebellion.

But without exception, they were all short-lived.

Back in the house, he turned on the old-fashioned television.

After the crackling noise of signal reception, two program channel options appeared on the snowy screen.

First, he checked the Weather Report:

[Welcome to... broadcasting tomorrow's... it will rain all day tomorrow.]

Rain on Spring Day 3—no problem there.

"I just wonder how large the area of effect is?"

Daeron instinctively thought about using advanced knowledge of weather changes to achieve some unexpected results.

However, he first looked at the other channel: Fortune Telling.

Fortune Telling:

[The spirits are very happy today! They will do their best to bring good luck to everyone.]

"Great!" Daeron let out a long breath.

As long as it's not the 'lifespan for luck' type, he deserved to live a hundred years.

To describe the TV: there were two permanent channels, the Weather Report and Fortune Telling.

The former was self-explanatory, while the latter predicted the farmer's luck for that day.

Without external interference, the luck threshold ranged between (+0.125) and (-0.075).

Luck levels from high to low were:

The spirits will bring good luck to everyone > You're going to have some luck today > The spirits feel neutral today > The spirits are somewhat annoyed today > You're going to have a bit of bad luck today > The spirits are very displeased today.

Among them, "The spirits feel neutral today" was the most unique; the luck increase or decrease wasn't fixed—it could be good or bad.

Judging by the divination program, today was definitely the best possible day: an Iridium Luck Day.

In addition, the TV occasionally aired "Living Off the Land" and "The Queen of Sauce," which provided farm management tips and taught cooking recipes for various crops, respectively. Both were very useful.

"More useful than the Forest Witch's prophecies."

Daeron decided that whenever he wasn't at the farm in the future, he would bring the old television with him.

A person's fortune could reveal so much.

Since there was nothing else to do, he walked out of the cabin to continue working.

With too many crop varieties harvested—and different qualities of potatoes taking up two inventory slots—Daeron took his axe and chopped down two trees in succession.

It was hard to distinguish between Oak and Maple, so he specifically targeted the conspicuous Pine trees.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

Amidst the heavy, powerful sounds of chopping, two large Pine trees, each as thick as a man could embrace, toppled over.

Daeron had the strength, and the axe was specifically designed for trees, so it was very fast and logical.

Even a tattered axe, if taken outside, could be called a divine artifact like "Tree Bane."

From the two Pine trees plus yesterday's farm clearing, he collected a total of 77 Wood, 17 Stone, 27 Fiber, 38 Sap, and one Pine Cone.

He opened the crafting panel and spent 50 Wood to make a Chest.

In the next instant, a bronze-colored wooden box, one meter in diameter and resembling a pirate's treasure Chest, landed on the ground.

The Chest was a piece of panel high-tech, with an internal inventory size of 36 slots.

When empty, it could be carried around.

Once filled with items, it could only be moved slowly by striking it with tools like a pickaxe or axe.

Daeron tested it.

The Chest could only be used by himself; outsiders couldn't open it, nor could they move it.

"If I take this out, I could claim to be a wizard."

Amusing himself, Daeron stored the various materials and bundle crops inside the Chest.

There was still a lot of work to do shortly.

Buying seeds, petting the chickens... oh, right.

He also had to check the mailbox to see if there was a letter inviting him to the beach to get a fishing rod.
