Elena's POV
"I'm sorry, Elena," Minnie whispered, her voice barely audible.
"It's okay," I replied, crossing my arms tightly over my chest.
I wasn't certain how to navigate this situation, but I'd figure something out.
"I'll drop by to check on you both occasionally," Minnie added.
My brow furrowed. "Occasionally? How long are you planning to be gone?"
"Could be a month, maybe two." She shrugged casually.
"Oh God!" I breathed out. "That's way too long."
"I know," Minnie let out a heavy sigh.
I watched her closely. I knew Minnie inside and out; something felt wrong.
"Why is Zane running?" I pressed.
Her cheeks flushed crimson instantly. "I... we... it's messy."
I arched an eyebrow. "Is it really?"
She averted her gaze. "I can't put it into words, please."
"If there's any danger involved, you need to tell me, Min," I insisted.
"There isn't," she shot back immediately.
I squinted, letting the quiet stretch between us. Something definitely felt off.
