Elena's POV
My vision went fuzzy, my body locking up from the shock.
June stepped toward me, worry creasing her forehead. "What's wrong?"
I couldn't answer. Couldn't even breathe.
"Elena?" Dorian's voice crackled through the phone, snapping me back to reality.
"Yeah, yeah," I managed. "I'm coming."
"Alright, see you," he said before the line went dead.
"What's going on?" June pressed, her worry deepening. "Are you alright?"
"Fine," I choked out, slipping my shoes back on.
"Can you keep Oliver a bit longer? Something's come up."
Oliver immediately burst into tears. "No, Mommy! You just came home!"
My heart lurched as I rushed to him, dropping to his eye level. "I know, sweetheart, but I'll be right back, okay?"
I wrapped him in my arms, trying to soothe him, but his crying only got worse.
"I want to come too!"
Fear shot through me. Not happening—not with Vivienne around.
