Chapter 2 - Ashura Chapter 2 — The Trials Begin

Fourteen years had passed since the boy named Shiva was born under the ominous glow of the Himalayan moon. The temple of Lord Shiva now stood like a sentinel among the towering peaks, its gray stone walls gleaming faintly beneath the rising sun. The air smelled of pine, incense, and frost, a combination that made the skin tingle and the heart quicken.

At the heart of the temple grounds lay a massive stadium, carved from the mountain itself. Stone terraces rose in concentric circles, lined with carved statues of ancient sages and warriors frozen in eternal meditation. Today, the stadium was alive with movement, filled with young warriors in crisp training robes, each no older than fifteen or sixteen. They were tense, their eyes bright with anticipation—and fear.

On a raised platform, seven majestic thrones awaited the Sage Gurus. These were not mere elders or teachers; they were living legends, the ultimate authority over the Guardians. Their calm presence radiated power and wisdom. Even the wind seemed to bow to their silent authority.

In the center of the arena stood Hari, the host of the grand trials. His voice carried clearly across the stadium, warm yet commanding.

"Namaste, students," Hari began, raising a hand. "Today, under the blessings of Lord Shiva, you will face the ultimate test. Those who prove themselves shall become leaders of the Guardian's two-person teams. Your courage, strength, and wisdom will be measured—not by the gods, but by yourselves."

A hushed murmur passed through the gathered warriors. The youngest of them—just fourteen or fifteen—looked around, hearts pounding. This was their moment. Some had trained for years, some their entire lives, and all carried the weight of prophecy, destiny, and expectation on their shoulders.

Hari continued, his tone growing solemn. "You must understand why Guardians exist. In every Yuga—Satya, Treta, Dvapara, and now Kali—the Devta have fought the Ashura, protectors of chaos. The Ashura are granted dark powers, but we fight not for glory, but to protect humanity.

"In every era, Lord Vishnu manifests to restore balance. At the end of Kali Yuga, the ultimate evil, Kali Purush, will rise. He will be aided by Ashura and other dark forces. Humanity will call for salvation, and in this age, the divine Kalki Avatar will awaken.

"But even the Avatar cannot fight alone. Seven mortal gods, devta, and rishi will join him. Guardians are the first line of defense—those who carry the wisdom and the strength to challenge the Ashura. And today, you will prove that you are worthy of that responsibility."

The students shifted nervously. Their training had prepared them for combat, yes—but this trial was something else. This was destiny knocking on their doors.

Hari gestured toward a large wooden box in the center of the arena. "Each of you will take a piece of paper. It bears a number and a color. The student who draws the same number and color as you is your opponent. Only by defeating your matched warrior will you rise as a leader of the Guardian teams. Begin."

Hands trembled as students approached the box. Each drew a slip, eyes scanning the symbols. Murmurs spread like wildfire across the arena.

"Number one, color red—come forward and introduce yourselves," Hari commanded.

Two girls stepped forward. One had long black hair flowing like a river of ink; her eyes shone with precision and focus. The other, slightly taller, carried herself with calm authority, her robes shifting as she walked.

"I am Maya, from the Fifth Temple," the first girl said, bowing lightly. "My teacher is Miss Jun, an Upper Guardian."

The second girl spoke next. "I am Devi, from the Third Temple. My teacher is Master Hiu, also an Upper Guardian. I am honored to face you."

A hush fell over the crowd. The wind carried a faint chill as the two girls squared off, readying their stances.

Maya drew her sword, its edge gleaming in the sun. Devi raised her hands, palms glowing faintly with energy. She carried no weapon; her body itself was the instrument of her power, and the earth bent subtly beneath her feet.

Hari raised his hand. "Begin!"

Devi lunged like lightning, her movements almost imperceptible. Rocks and dirt trembled beneath her, swirling in jagged shapes as she advanced. Maya's sword sang through the air, clashing with Devi's attacks and sending sparks flying.

"You will have to do better than that," Maya said calmly.

Devi's feet barely touched the ground as she somersaulted backward, the earth bending beneath her. A faint red glow emanated from her palms—the power of the Muladhara Chakra, the root of her mystical energy. Each movement cost her focus and stamina.

Maya's eyes narrowed. "Sword and speed are enough." She charged again, blade spinning in rapid arcs. Each strike was precise, calculated, testing Devi's reflexes.

Devi countered, bending unnaturally, her body flowing like water. Jagged rocks rose from the ground, spinning toward Maya like a defensive wall. Maya's sword sliced through them, sparks flying. She noticed Devi's overextension—the reliance on her chakra leaving small openings in her attacks.

Finally, Maya leapt into the air, spinning her sword above her head. "Now show me what you've got!" she shouted. The blade glowed, generating a shockwave that pushed Devi back.

Devi landed, trembling slightly, her palms still glowing. "You're strong… but I won't lose."

With a stomp, she sent earth spikes shooting toward Maya, who dodged and slashed them apart. Each move strained Devi further, each attack leaving her body weaker.

Maya anticipated a pattern and struck decisively, shattering Devi's largest rock spike in a dazzling explosion of stone and light. Devi fell hard, breathing heavily, her aura flickering weakly.

The crowd held its breath. Even the Sage Gurus leaned forward, eyes narrowed in approval.

Hari's voice rang out. "The winner is… Maya! She will lead her two-man Guardian team!"

Devi struggled to her feet, smiling faintly through exhaustion. "I… I lost… because I relied only on my Muladhara Chakra. Next time… I'll be stronger."

Maya nodded respectfully. "Your power is incredible. I will remember it."

The spectators erupted in cheers, and the wind carried the sound like a song across the mountains.
