It is july 25th 2025.
A month and a half passed, Hirata is preparing for his final exams of that semester "Well, at last... Time to wrap up this semester."
Hirata and Haruto study together this semester, even after university, still Hirata doesn't read any older version of English out loud, he's being cautious.
It is August 1
A week passed after Hirata and Haruto's studying sessions, Hirata starts preparing for the exams, He dresses himself, gets ready then goes to Haruto's house and meet up with him for a quick revision. Haruto keeps reminding Hirata not to accidentally pronounce any Middle English or older words or phrases, Hirata nods.
Two hours passed and now it's the time for the exam, Hirata's first exam was a translation course, the exam went smoothly, then after some break, his second exam was a Course called language change, it involves Old English, so he needs to be cautious, that hour and a half was the slowest hour and a half ever, he felt like.
And finally for Hirata's last exam of the day, History of the English Language, Hirata kind of let his guard down in this exam, he was cautious but Oblivious, he recieved the exam paper and read the questions on the inside, at first the exam was going quietly and smoothly, until an error was found in the exam, hirata was the only one who knew the correction of the error.
Multiple Student complained about the test being inconsistent with a lot of errors. Hirata offered to help, with the monitors and examiners Permissions, he was allowed to clarify and clear up any misunderstanding...
The examiners say "Hirata, you can help your classmates, since the professor isn't here, you're the only one who can help for now."
Hirata "By all means!"
The errors were mostly in Modern English and Hirata fixed them normally, until the last question, The Ironic thing is, the examiner's name happened to be Ken which is the same name as the question on the exam's faulty question.
there was a a question that had an Example of Middle English which was "Ken wol to stonden here stille." Which was slightly grammatically incorrect. The correct Version was "Ken wol standen here stille."
Which means in Modern English " Ken will stand here still."
Before getting permission, Hirata found it Ironic and somewhat funny that one of his Examiners name was in this incorrect example, he did not know the trap he fell in.
The examiner Ken "You may speak, Hirata."
Hirata "Sure, as you all can see, there's an error in this sentence."
Hirata "The sentence is incorrect which is Ken wol to stonden here stille."
For a moment it was too quiet and nothing happened, Hirata told everyone the Correct Version "Ken wol standen here stille."
The moment Hirata went back to his seat, the air shifted, The examiner Ken specifically seemed to look something like sick...
At first no one noticed, it was barely noticeable but Hirata in a second panicked. He remembered that he Read an older English text "Oh crap! I messed up big time! Plz let nothing happen!"
Sudden Ken froze, literally froze without moving a single centimeter! Students started to notice, not only that, Ken had some kind of pressure around him, literally going near him felt crushing, no one was able to touch him even. Though Ken was able to speak.
"Wha-What happened? I can't move my body!"
"It hurts, I feel like my body has been frozen yet not cold."
The Classroom was shocked quietly, then panicked.
Hirata with himself in panic "Wha-What just happened? Di-did I cause this?"
One of the classroom students "Professor Ken froze! But the weather isn't even rainy!"
Another student "What's happening? Is this a prank?"
Another student with absolute shock and panic "No-No way... I can't believe it"
Ken screams loudly "Someone, Please help me!"
A fraction of second passes and Hirata feels numb, his body goes numb almost instantly
Hirata gets Frozen in his place as well, he didn't feel it at first but when he tries to get up from his seat, he fails to do so. The classroom was so quiet that the passing cars in street next to the school were loud, literally the silence was loud...
Hirata shouts "Oh- I CAN'T MOVE AS WELL!"
The class turned their faces towards Hirata who's now in the same situation as the examiner Ken
Hirata speaks with himself with his thoughts "That's strange, why did I get the same ffext as Mr. Ken?"
"I said the Middle English line that happened to include his name, so why am I affected? That's strange"
"There has to be some explanation that I am still unaware of, I truly need to research those powers As soon as possible! This is bad news!"
All of this literally happens in less than a minute! Yet that minute felt like an eternity for Hirata...
Moments later, a sound that sounds ambient yet horror was made and suddenly Hirata and the Examiner were set free - they were able to move again.
Hirata gets disoriented and falls to the ground and says "Wh-What! I can move again."
The examiner Ken gasps for air and falls to the ground as well "Ouch! That hurts! What on earth just happened? What kind of sorcery is this?"
Minutes later, the exam resumes normally as if nothing had happened...
The students took this entire moment as a joke that Hirata and Ken orchestrated, though it was never actually. And all these students are unaware of what really happen, though Hirata knows "to an exten".
After Hirata finishes the exam, he waits for Haruto to finish, waiting for him to tell what happened exactly hoping that he might give Hirata a proper explanation why not only ken was affected but Hirata himself...
Haruto Finally finished his exams as well, Hirata runs straight to him and shouts while gasping for air "you will not believe what just happened!"
"It's regarding my powers! I accidentally awakened it without meaning to!"
Haruto's expression shifts from neutral to shocked "WHAT! ARE YOU CRAZY? PLEASE TELL ME NO ONE WAS HURT!!"
Hirata tells Haruto everything that had transpired...
Haruto says "I see..."
Hirata "The thing is... I was affected as well, but why? Is I possess this power, then I should inflict not get infected right?"
Haruto "Nope, you're quite wrong!"
Haruto "Don't you remember when I told you that errors rebound? What I meant when I said that is when you make an error, this power will be reflected to you..."
Hirata "ohh... I messed up big time..."
Haruto "Be grateful no major damage was done, since usually when this Branch of power is used, there has to be some kind of damage done."
Hirata "You're extremely right, I should never let my guard down, or else this power will be an indignation."
Hirata "I will prove this with my own hands... After all this is my story!"
Haruto "Come on dude, it's time for the next exam, seems like we're in the same room this time, I won't let you mess up this time!"
Hirata "That's a relief (awkward chuckle), though this course has no involvement of old English or older periods (chuckles)."
Haruto "If you say so..."
They both take their second exam normally with no reported incidents during that day, though some students had their doubts of what happened that day...
