Maribel looked lost in thought.
Rhaelis and Zack were able to sense that energy for a couple of minutes before it vanish like it never existed. Rhaelis looked up when she wasn't able to sense it anymore and looked directly at Zack.
They way Zack looked, Rhaelis figured he couldn't sense it anymore and looked at Maribel but she was still lost in thought.
"What's going on? What happened to Lucas?" Iso has been asking the same questions for a couple of minutes but no one respondent because they don't know how to answer those questions.
"We don't know." Rhaelis said bluntly as she looked at Iso. May left the table a while ago when Iso started to asked Rhaelis is she had a lover and choose to return to her business.
Maribel decided to leave their table and return to work. May brought Rhaelis and Zack's food.
Iso decided to leave because whatever she came to the inn for, wasn't there or couldn't be solved.
After Zack and Rhaelis finished eating, Zack returned to the guild while Rhaelis decided to continue her training.
Maribel kept herself busy with the inn's work.
The evening came.
Rhaelis stopped her training and decided to grab some dinner. May and Maribel kept the business running and May found out the Maribel is too good for the job.
Maribel began to work as a maid the day she turned 15. Most of the kids attend academy by that age but she couldn't. She didn't have any mana or aura in her body, most commoners are born that way but develop their aura through battle they fight in their lives. Even if she had mana or aura, she didn't have any funds to attend the academy. Maribel was not a fight or a scholar, she just new how to serve, clean and follow orders.
She came from the family of 4, it was her mother, father and her younger brother. Her father died when she was 10 years old and her brother was 5 years old since their father was an adventurer. Her mother died when she was 13 because of malnutrition because she didn't eat enough food ever since her husband died and only fed her children food. Maribel blamed herself for her mother's death and started a piece job by helping adventures washes their clothes and gear. She did that for 20 months before a maid from the castle begged the king to hire her which the king agreed.
She worked under that maid since that maid was getting old. The maid that begged the king was the head maid in the castle. She worked under her and was able to provide her brother with enough food which made her happy. Her brother died when she was 20 years old as an adventurer. Her brother wanted to help stand on his own without putting trouble to her sister but died on his first quest. Certain adventurers provoked a beast they couldn't handle, they saw her brother picking up herbs and used him as bait while they slay the beast.
Maribel cried when she heard the news. She couldn't focus on her job for the entire 15 days which the head maid covered for her. She decided to push her sadness away and focus on her job. The prince and princess were born when she was 21 years old.
The king assigned a maids to take care of them which was not her even though she wanted to take care of them because she thought the kids can easy her worries. She didn't let that discourage her and kept working. When she was 22, she got married to a butler she met at the castle. She bore him 2 children, the first at age of 23 and second at 25.
She was happy with her life.
The head maid died when she was 28 years old which broke her because she was more like a mother to her. She never once forgot her birthday even when she forgot her own birthday. The king assigned another maid to be the head maid. The new head maid was terrible at her job but she covered for her and the king blamed her which made her feel mistreated.
Her husband sacrificed her children on some ritual he was making somewhere on the castle when she was 30. The king found out after the ritual was completed and executed her husband on the spot. She was devastated and miserable when she heard the news. She didn't know what was going on with her husband and she blamed her husband for it, who was dead.
She became broke and committed suicide but survived each one. She committed 13 suicide but each one failed.
When she was 31 years old, the princes fell in a coma and couldn't wake up. The kind blame her for the princess slumber and tortured her each chance he got, almost everyday.
For the entire 2 years, her tortured almost everyday and hasn't had normal food besides her shit. She wanted to die every single day.
26 months of torture was not normal for anyone especially when you're not fed normal food.
She was not a slave but she felt worse than a slave.
When Zain came and healed, she didn't feel anything towards him because she only wanted to die. She did care who killed her because she'll be dead to even worry about that.
Zain gave her seven days to decide her course of life and three days has already passed.
Maribel kept working without thinking of anything. She gave up trying to kill herself long time ago because she knew she was going to fail.
Rhaelis saw Maribel working hard and decided to call her to have dinner with her. May let her.
Rhaelis wanted to talk to her about Zain. Maribel kept eating her food but Rhaelis decided to break the silence.
"What do you think about Lucian?"
Rhaelis looked at Maribel when she said that. Maribel stopped eating and looked at Rhaelis.
"What do you mean?" Maribel said.
"Is he a good person or bad person?"
"I don't know. I learnt that people are both good and bad, they just choose how to represent themselves to others." Maribel said to Rhaelis reminiscing about the past. Rhaelis silently agreed with her logic.
"Is he a good person to you?" Rhaelis said.
"He has done a good thing to me but I can't judge based on his one action that he is good, afterall I thought my dead husband is a good person." Maribel said feeling sad to herself.
"I'm sorry." Rhaelis said feeling sorry for her.
"Don't be, he deserved it."
The was silence for few seconds before Maribel decided to say something.
"I don't think I'm the right person for you to ask me that. I found out, I'm not good at judging people's character. Even you, I can't tell if you're good." Maribel said as she looked at Rhaelis.
"Okay. Let me change the question, do you know how Lucian lives his life?" Rhaelis asked Maribel because she thinks Maribel has been serving him for months, probably years even.
"He lives the life he will remember." Maribel said as she smiled while she said that.
"What!" Rhaelis was surprised when she heard her answer.
"That's what Avicii said to him and I think he's doing it."
"Who's Avicii? What did he say?"
"I don't know but he said 'One day you'll leave this world behind. So live a life you will remember.'" Maribel said as she continued eating her food.
Rhaelis thought about what she said and finished her meal. Rhaelis went to bed after eating, same as Maribel and slept.
