Chapter 2
The following day, as I returned to work, I overheard Dennis and Charlotte chatting about my best friend, Clara. They both expressed their feelings for her and their desire to date her. Dennis is a boy and Charlotte is a girl, and they believe they have a chance since Clara is bisexual. It's worth mentioning that both Dennis and Charlotte are my colleagues at the company.I found myself caught off guard when I overheard a conversation about my best friend. As the words drifted into my ears, a wave of jealousy washed over me, filling my heart to the brim. In that moment, I felt an urge to intervene, so I fibbed and claimed they had work to attend to, hoping to put an end to their chatter. The anger bubbled within me, yet I couldn't quite grasp why I felt this way. It was a confusing mix of emotions, one that left me pondering long after the moment had passed. On the very same day my friend was driving me home, I decided to share something I had heard. To my surprise, she already knew about it! Apparently, the two of them had approached her with a proposal, but she had turned them down. They just wouldn't give up, though, and she seemed completely unfazed by it all.
She noticed I looked a bit miffed and playfully asked if I was jealous. I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought; I replied, "That's absurd! You're my best mate! Do I look like one of your many crushes?" I gave her my best 'I couldn't care less' look, and we both burst into laughter. On the very same day that she dropped me off at my house, my best friend decided it was the perfect time to visit my sister. It had been ages since she'd seen my little troublemaker, as she affectionately calls my sister. I mentioned earlier how close they are, didn't I?
As she walked into the house, she found my little sister, Kiara, engrossed in a book. They immediately fell into their usual banter, while I busied myself in the kitchen, trying to figure out what to whip up for both of us.
In the midst of their chatter, Kiara piped up, reminding my bestie that it had been far too long since they had dined out together. She suggested that they go to a restaurant the next day since it was Saturday, and there wouldn't be any school or work. Clara eagerly agreed and then turned to Kiara, asking if I'd like to join them.
Without a moment's hesitation, I said a firm no. But Kiara, with her puppy-dog eyes and sweet persuasion, began to plead with me. Eventually, I found myself with no choice but to relent and say yes.The following day arrived, and Mabel was already at our doorstep, excitedly waiting to whisk us off to the restaurant. She suggested we take her car instead, and I happily agreed, saying, "No problem!"
As we settled into the car, Kiara couldn't help but ask where we were headed. Clara grinned and replied, "To your sister favourite restaurant." Kiara chimed in, "You mean my sister's favourite restaurant!" Mabel laughed and said, "Let's just go to mine; I've been craving their food for ages!"
When we finally arrived, we found that Clara had already reserved a table for us. The staff there treated us like VIPs, all thanks to Clara's popularity. It felt special, and I could sense the excitement in the air!As we sat down to enjoy our meal, the air was filled with soft, romantic melodies. My younger sister was relishing her food, a bright smile lighting up her face, and I couldn't help but feel a surge of joy, all thanks to Clara. Then, in a moment of spontaneity, she insisted that my boss, my best friend, and I hit the dance floor. I hesitated, claiming I didn't know how to dance. But Clara, with her infectious enthusiasm, chimed in, "Come on, stand up! I'll teach you. You've got this!"
I felt a wave of shyness wash over me as I stepped onto the dance floor. The song was so romantic that my heart raced like a drum. Clara's gaze was intense, almost as if she was peering into my very soul, and it felt both exhilarating . Meanwhile, I caught sight of my sister Kiara, beaming with happiness at our antics, her eyes sparkling with delight as she cheered us on with little "Aww" sounds.
