I stood infront of the mirror with a frown, debating on one of my most confounding choices of my entire life; should I go with the peach top hat goes with my short or with the green striped shirt which went with my sneakers?
Both suited me fine but in moments like these, when you're forced to go somewhere you don't want to, It was best to dress to impress or atleast to impress yourself.
I looked at my figure and smiled. Damn I'm hot, I thought smugly.
My name was Sarah Bucklehim, I was eighteen and living with my mother in a town called Oakwood.
I was a light skinned brunette and I had a slim figure. My face was oval shaped and my eyes were a deep blue. My skin was mostly flawless but I had some ear freckles I got from mom that added to my charm. I was beautiful , I knew that, but being beautiful was not advantageous as someone might think.
I always got stuck when choosing an outfit... Like right then.
After fifteen minutes of staring at the mirror, I still hadn't decided .
" Another Sarah Bucklehim fashion crisis?" A voice said behind me from my bedroom door.
I rolled my eyes, knowing who it was, and turned around. My best friend , Lucas walked into the room and flopped onto the bed without a care in the world.
He was eighteen like me , but he was black . He had light brown skin and black hair shoulder length hair. His eyes were a hazel brown and his face was even with a curved jaw. He wore a dark green sweater, black sweatpants and was barefoot. A slight scar was on his left ear lobe, like a closed split, he'd gotten it as a kid.
Right then he was smiling with lips, it wasn't a grin, and looking at me.
I was naked, I should have mentioned that, but it didn't really matter. Lucas had no interest in me like that or in any girl like that.
" If I could spend as much time choosing a boyfriend as you did choosing clothes... I might actually have someone . " He said sarcastically and I scoffed.
" Do not compare choosing men to choosing the perfect outfit . " I told him and he chuckled.
Needless to say , Lucas and I played for the same team . Although nobody but me knew this truest truth, and Lucas didn't want his family to know most of all. His dad would freak!
"Seriously , can you hurry up . I came here ten minutes ago and your mom said you probably got stuck with your shoes again . " He said dryly.
"Not shoes , I'm choosing the right top to wear . " I answered and he sighed.
" We'll be with the dinosaurs when you finally pick I guess. I just want to get this over with, mom suggested I go since you were going ." He said and I groaned.
Of course she did , I thought . They had forced both of us . I was only going because Lucas was going and him likewise, because you never leave a friend behind... to boredom. But I didn't bring this up , it would not change anything.
I looked back at the mirror, looking at both tops and after fifteen more minutes and alot of grumbling and moaning from Lucas I finally decided to wear my peach top and let the sneakers fight their own battle of style.
"Finally, my soul was considering leaving my body already. Let's go ." Lucas said flipping off the bed and walking to the door but I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him back to the bed.
" What ? " He asked pointedly and i pointed to the bed with a stern face.
"My bed isn't a trampoline you know . So kindly clean it to the way it was before you came ." I said in a voice like my aunt Elena. She was badass woman.
Lucas shook his head , " Nope , your bed is always a mess and it was a mess when I got in this room. Stop stalling and let's go."
With that he turned around and walked out of the room . I sighed , the aunt Elena trick was barely working nowadays . Maybe I should try being like uncle Mark, I wondered walking out of the room.
Then I paused right outside the door.
I turned around and looked at the door with wide eyes.
Or technically behind the door.
My room had one large French window that faced outside and during mid morning the light shined into the room and everything was light up. I didn't know the time then but I was certain it was mid morning. As expected my room was light up but except for one place.
I moved to the small opening between the hinges of the door and it's frame. There was a dark shadow behind the door.
I swallowed and walked back into the room . Then before I could chicken out I shut the door with a bang and raised my fists in threatening pose. Sure my eyes were closed, but who needs vision to fight?
But after a moment, nothing happened. And I looked behind the door.
There was nothing there.
I sighed in relief.
"Dumby." I told myself. It had just been a trick of the light.
There's no such thing as creepy shadows behind doors, I thought , honestly what was I thinking?
I walked out of the room . Later when I got back home , I would find my bed was made even though nobody had been home all day, and every door was locked and entry shut.
But that would be later , right then I was only concerned with going to the Fair and getting to enjoy my last day of spring break.
Even if it killed me!
