Chapter 1 - 1. Family dinner

Crash! The exquisite plates came tumbling down from the table in response to the patriarch of the Blacks family anger. " What do you mean , you are not going to the blind dates I arranged for you?". Old man Black shouted as he stood up angrily glaring at his grandson who was carefree-ly cutting the steak presented before him

"What I mean by not going to the blind dates you attended? Nothing, I just want you to stop wasting your time grandpa, I will never attend anyone of those dates"

"What!! you brat" Old man Black shouted pointing at his grandson who was sitting two chairs away from him.

"Calm down, Dad, please," a middle-aged woman pleaded. "You know Zeke is still a child. Personally, I think this is all a bit too much." A beautiful middle aged woman pleaded and glanced meaningfully at the housemaids signaling them to clean the mess caused by the old man's anger—shattered china from the family dinner, which always seemed to end on a sad note.

"Zeke," Edward said, his voice low and sharp. "Can't you see your grandfather's condition? Must you always turn a family dinner into a scene?"

The rest of the relatives at the table sat in frozen silence, acting invisible, carefully avoiding the fury of both Old man Black and Edward Black

...…

The middle-aged man, Edward Black, who was visibly vexed was Zeke dad . While the middle-aged woman Kira was his stepmom who he disliked to his bone marrow. The rest of the people at the table were heated internally with different opinions running through their minds, yet they all sat in frozen silence.

"Family?" Zeke began, his voice cold and pointed, "why do I feel like I'm sitting with strangers at this table?

"What do you mean by 'strangers'?" Old Man Black roared, his face flushing with anger "Everyone here is your family!"

When the old man said "family," it was clear he was omitting Kira and her relatives. He looked at his step-mother, seemingly unconcerned that his words might wound her.

"You," Edward Black, were about to continue but were held back by his wife, who gently pulled him down into his chair.

"Hun" she soothed, using a calming nickname. "We should all calm down, huh? Let's just eat. You know, it's rare to see everyone here with our busy schedules. Let's all ease up and enjoy the meal, okay?"

Finally, Mister Edward relented, sinking into his seat with a stifled fury, while the meal continued under a thick blanket of tension.
