Chuuya Nakahara woke up. He sat up from where he was lying. He looked around. Where was this place? The ground and sky were red. In the sky there was a huge star. This huge star was surrounded by a ring. On this ring there were strange shapes. The people—if they were people—were strange in their own way. Some had horns, some were animal-shaped. Some had more than two eyes. Some had only one eye. He still didn't understand what was happening. He ran his hand through his hair. But instead of a hand, there was a huge claw. He let out a small scream. He had changed. He looked at himself. His clothes were the same. But behind him there was a moving tail. It looked like the tail shown in depictions of demons. He looked at his reflection in the building across from him. Once his eyes had been bright blue, now they were fiery red. His orange hair was now aflame. In the reflection, he noticed someone— a demon—standing right behind him. He turned around.
This demon was much taller than him. The demon had red deer ears and crescent-shaped horns. His red hair reached his neck, with black tips. His face was gray. His eyes were red. On his face was a huge smile. His teeth were yellow. The demon wore a tattered red suit. In his hand was a stick that Chuuya thought was his cane. This strange being bent down to Chuuya's height and asked in a voice like it came from a radio:
—"I've never seen you around here. Are you new? Welcome to Hell!!!"
When he heard the word "Hell," Chuuya's face turned pale. Though he couldn't believe it, he asked in a trembling voice:
—"D-did I die?"
He thought about how he had come here. He had been shot during a conflict. Of course, after all the things he had done—murder, assault, destruction, etc.—he deserved to go to Hell. The demon—still grinning—asked:
—"So you finally realized, little man. What's your name?"
Chuuya answered with a trembling voice. The demon shook his hand. With his radio voice he said:
—"I am Alastor, the Radio Demon…"
After laughing, he turned to Chuuya:
—"Pleasure to meet you, little friend. Normally others fear me because I'm a serial killer, but you're not afraid. I like that~"
Then he laughed again. He continued:
—"Look, let me tell you something. The princess of Hell, Charlie—Lucifer's daughter—has a hotel project. A hotel called Hazbin Hotel. It's a place where we can rehabilitate the demons here. It's right up on that hill…"
With a finger sharp as a knife, he pointed to a strange building on top of the hill. Chuuya's mouth fell open. He didn't know whether to go or stay. Alastor noticed his hesitation and came closer:
—"You can stay here if you want. What happens to you, I can't say… but at least if you come to the hotel, you'll be safe. It's up to you."
Chuuya thought for a while. He had to trust the man. He nodded his head and together with Alastor, they started walking toward the hotel…
