Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Watch Full Eyes

Izumi led Akira through the sliding paper doors out into the small, private backyard. The space was neatly kept, dominated by a single stone training post and a wooden dummy scarred with dozens of shallow kunai gouges.

"This is where I practice after school!" Izumi said proudly, puffing out her chest as she pointed toward a straw-wrapped target mounted against the wooden fence. "Itachi showed me a few shuriken grips once, so I've been trying to master the curved trajectory throw. It's way harder than it looks, though!"

Akira walked over, running a finger along the clean edge of a kunai mark on the dummy. "Your point control is surprisingly consistent. A little more weight on the release and you'll be hitting the bullseye every time."

"Really? You think so?" Izumi beamed, practically glowing at the praise.

She eagerly pulled him back inside and up a short flight of stairs to show off her bedroom. The room was simple and organized, featuring a desk stacked with Academy textbooks, a small scroll rack, and a surprisingly large plush rabbit sitting on her neatly made futon.

The two sat near the low desk, casually chatting about the daily grind at the Academy—complaining about Chunin Daikoku's dry lectures on shinobi history, the absurd homework loads, and the hilarious antics of their louder classmates. Sitting across from him, Izumi couldn't help but notice how easy Akira was to talk to when he wasn't acting like an unreachable, stoic wall at school.

"Dinner's ready, children!" Mrs. Mori's warm voice called out from downstairs.

"Coming, Mom!" Izumi called back, sliding her door open. "Come on, Akira, let me show you my mom's cooking. It's the best in the whole district!"

Downstairs in the dining room, a lavish spread awaited them on the low table. Mrs. Mori had outdone herself, preparing a golden-brown roasted chicken, steaming bowls of white rice, and a rich, fragrant potato curry that filled the room with a savory aroma.

"I hope you brought an appetite, Akira," Mrs. Mori said kindly, handing him a fresh bowl of rice.

"It looks incredible, Mrs. Mori. Thank you for the meal," Akira replied politely.

Taking a bite of the tender chicken followed by a spoonful of the potato curry, Akira's eyes lit up slightly. The flavors were perfectly balanced—rich, comforting, and cooked with genuine home warmth. "This is delicious. The spices in the curry are amazing."

Mrs. Mori let out a delighted laugh, clapping her hands together. "Oh, stop it, you're flattering me! Eat as much as you like, there's plenty more in the kitchen!"

The meal passed in a surprisingly cozy, comfortable atmosphere. They enjoyed the food, shared light jokes, and finished off the colorful Rainbow Dango Akira had brought as dessert.

Once the tea was finished, Akira checked the position of the sun outside and stood up, offering a respectful bow to their hostess. "Thank you for the wonderful meal and hospitality, Mrs. Mori. I should head back before it gets too late."

"You're very welcome, Akira. You're welcome here anytime!" Mrs. Mori smiled warmly, then nudged her daughter's shoulder. "Izumi, go ahead and walk Akira back to the main gates."

"Okay!" Izumi agreed instantly.

The two walked side-by-side through the quiet residential streets of the Uchiha compound until they reached the heavy iron archway of the main checkpoint.

"Thanks for coming today, Akira," Izumi said, turning to face him with a soft smile. "I really had fun."

"I did too. The food was great," Akira replied with a relaxed grin. "I'll see you at the Academy tomorrow, Izumi."

"See you tomorrow!"

Akira offered a final wave, tucked his hands into his pockets, and stepped past the main gates, leaving the Uchiha district behind as he headed back toward the central village.

Watching his figure fade into the distance, Izumi turned around to head back home, only to come face-to-face with a tall, stern-looking Uchiha officer wearing the standard Police Force vest, a long sword strapped to his back.

It was Yashiro Uchiha, a patrol captain for the district.

"Little Izumi," the captain spoke up, his voice calm and curious rather than harsh. "What was a Hyūga kid doing inside our district today?"

Izumi didn't flinch. She offered a polite, respectful bow, giving the captain a bright smile. "Hello, Captain! That was Akira. He's a friend and classmate of mine from the Academy, so my mother and I invited him over for lunch today to thank him."

Captain Yashiro looked toward the outer gates where Akira had just left, then looked back at Izumi's cheerful face. His stern expression softened into a small, approving smile.

"I see... a classmate, huh?" The captain nodded gently. "It's good to see the younger generation making solid friends outside the clan. Be safe walking home, Izumi."

"Thank you, Captain!" Izumi greeted him warmly once more before happily skipping down the street toward her house.

Meanwhile, Akira continued strolling down the quiet dirt path leading away from the Naka River, his hands tucked loosely into his pockets. On the surface, he appeared entirely relaxed—a young boy enjoying a peaceful Sunday walk after a heavy meal.

Underneath his calm exterior, however, his newly refined Ice Release chakra flowed with razor-sharp sensitivity. Every breath he took drew in the subtle temperature fluctuations of the surrounding environment, acting as an ambient radar.

High above in the dense canopy of the surrounding oak trees, shrouded within the deep shadows of the foliage, three figures crouched in absolute stillness.

They wore standard Konoha Anbu uniforms—grey chest plates, arm guards, and white porcelain animal masks. Yet, unlike standard village guards, their presence radiated an unnerving, vacant silence. Their eyes, visible only as dark slits behind their masks, held a lifeless, murderous coldness that signaled their true allegiance.

They were Root operatives, Danzō Shimura's personal surveillance network stationed around the Uchiha perimeter.

The operative wearing a stark, white Cat mask didn't move a single muscle, his voice dropping to a flat, emotionless whisper that barely stirred the leaves around him. "Captain... a Hyūga Branch member just exited the Uchiha district."

The lead operative, wearing a Dog mask, kept his gaze locked on Akira's retreating back. His tone was equally hollow, completely devoid of human warmth. "I will report this anomaly directly to Lord Danzō. Maintain strict surveillance on the perimeter."

Shhhk.

Without making a single sound or rustling a single leaf, the Dog-masked captain vanished into the tree shadows, speeding toward the underground depths of the village.

Far down on the dirt path, Akira's lips twitched upward into a tiny, imperceptible smirk.

He didn't even bother turning his head or activating the visible veins around his Byakugan. Through the crisp, sub-zero aura lingering around his body, he had felt the sudden, localized dip in air temperature the exact moment the Root captain accelerated through the trees.

"Danzō's watchdogs are as paranoid as ever..." Akira thought amusedly, taking a deep breath of the afternoon air as he kept strolling toward his villa. "Go ahead and report it, old man. Let's see how much sleep you lose trying to figure out why a six-year-old went to eat potato curry."
