Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 Her crush

It was night, the entire house lay quiet, and everyone seemed to be asleep.

Alchemy found herself wide awake, her mind consumed by the echoes of Kwame's words.

She went outside, craving the gentle caress of the night air. And that's when she saw him, Marvel, sitting alone crying softly.

Her footsteps silent on the dew-kissed grass, Alchemy approached him, her heart aching in tandem with his pain.

"Marvel," she whispered, her voice a soothing balm to his wounded soul.

He rose, his eyes brimming with tears, and wrapped his arms around her, holding her as if she were his lifeline.

Alchemy settled beside him, her fingers intertwining with his, offering what little comfort she could.

"I love you, Alchemy," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "You don't have to say anything, just listen to me", he said.

With a deep breath, he began to unravel the threads of his regret. "I was cruel when you first arrived, my heart hardened by shadows I couldn't shake. I'm so sorry for the pain I caused you. I don't know how to stop the ache in my chest."

Alchemy was profoundly shocked, she did not know what to say. "I am sorry, Marvel. I am already in love with someone," she declared, standing up and taking a step back.

"Please, Alchemy, give me a chance to show you the depth of my love."

With a soft smile, she stood up and walked away. Leaving him to the silence of the night.

The following day, Kwame entered his brother's room unannounced, without knocking.

He was surprised by what he saw, Marvel was smoking cigarette.

Astonished, Kwame exclaimed, "What the hell are you doing Marvel?"

Marvel's eyes flashing with irritation, replied in a sharp, commanding tone, "Leave my room Kwame, and make sure you knock before you dare to enter my room.

"When did you start this habit of smoking, Marvel? And why, of all things, must you flaunt it?", Kwame asked his brother.

"Oh please! Stop being dramatic. This better stay between us alone. Now, leave my presence immediately", Marvel shouted.

Obedient to his brother's fierce command, Kwame exited the room, his footsteps echoing down the hallway, and proceeded to his own room, where he was stunned to see Alchemy seated on his bed, her presence an unexpected intrusion.

"What are you doing here?" he inquired.

"I am sorry for how I spoke to you yesterday, my words were harsh and unforgivable", Alchemy pleaded.

Kwame sat on the bed, tears streaming down his cheeks, his heart heavy with sorrow.

Alchemy, concerned, asked gently, "What's wrong with you, Kwame?"

"I am utterly bewildered, Alchemy," he said.

"Marvel is so much into you, and now he smokes, what would he do if he finds out we're in a relationship?"

Alchemy sat beside Kwame and embraced him tenderly.

At that moment, Marvel entered the room and saw the intimate embrace, his gaze narrowing with suspicion.

"What are you doing here?" Kwame asked, his voice laced with anger.

"I came to apologize for how I spoke to you, my behavior was reprehensible", Marvel replied.

"I will inform dad the next time I see you smoking," Kwame warned, his eyes narrowing with solemn intent.

"Very well, why are you here, Alchemy?" Marvel inquired, his gaze fixed upon Alchemy.

"Nothing," Alchemy replied and walked away.

"Please, Kwame, assist me in speaking with her," Marvel implored, his voice trembling with earnest desperation.

"I can't! I can't help you," Kwame responded, his expression hardening like granite beneath the afternoon sky.

After lunch, Marvel remained behind to assist Aunt Kathy in washing the dishes.

"I have been desiring to talk with you about a significant matter. I merely could not get the right opportunity," Aunt Kathy said.

"Okay mom, I am all ears," Marvel replied.

"I spoke to Alchemy, she is truly not interested in you. Please let her go," Aunt Kathy advised gently, holding his hands within hers upon the worn wooden table, her eyes reflecting maternal compassion.

"No, mother, she is just afraid to admit it. She loves me," Marvel declared confidently.

"Oh my dear son, I am certain you will get over her in time. You simply need to accept the truth," Aunt Kathy said.

"I already know the truth, mom. Alchemy loves me. You can't change my mind, no one can," Marvel replied firmly.

"Very well, if you believe so much that Alchemy loves you, make her say it. If she does not, let go," Aunt Kathy instructed.

"Okay mom," Marvel replied.

After assisting Aunt Kathy, Marvel entered Alchemy's room, the soft light of the room casting gentle shadows upon the polished wooden desk and the scent of old parchment filling the air.

"What do you want Marvel?", Alchemy asked. Her eyes fixed intently upon Marvel's troubled expression.

"I just want to understand why you are so reluctant to admit your true feelings toward me", Marvel replied.

"What do you mean by that, Marvel? Why are you so certain that I love you?", Alchemy questioned, her brow furrowing.

"I overheard your conversation with your mother on the day you first arrived here. You told her that you have a big crush on me", Marvel said.

Alchemy stood silently for a while, her thoughts swirling like the incense smoke curling through the air, then turned and left the room.

The heavy door closing with a resonant thud that left the atmosphere charged with unspoken emotion.
