Chapter 2 - a hell of start

---

Looking around, I find myself inside a small, cozy apartment—extremely familiar, yet completely unknown. I let out a sigh, because I already know what this means.

I have reincarnated into this world as an alternate version of myself.

My eyes focus on a translucent screen that suddenly appears before my vision.

07:34 AM

Version: 0.1

Host: ...

•Would you like to change the name?•

#===========#

Without hesitation, I press "Yes" and change my name to something I find cool. After all, I'm technically in a fictional world now—I might as well have a flashy name. I choose a unique name I always thought was badass back when I used to watch anime and see those overpowered characters.

Host: Drakkon Uchiha

Functions:

Level: 1

EXP: 0/100 (Locked until System Version 1.0)

Other functions are locked until reaching the required level. Check for yourself.

Abilities: Infinite Space

Time until final system update: 30 days

"Damn it… just as I thought. It wouldn't let me exploit such an obvious loophole."

I frown slightly.

"But now that I know I won't be able to become stronger than a normal person before the Apocalypse begins, I need to think carefully. Survival comes first. I have to fully maximize the only ability I was given."

I glance around the room.

"Before that, I should test how it works. Making mistakes later—when the Apocalypse starts or during a critical moment—could get me killed."

My gaze lands on a mug near the bed, resting on a small desk. I extend my arm and say with blind confidence:

"Absorb."

(…)

"…That was embarrassing."

I think internally, feeling slightly mortified.

"Good thing I tried this inside. If someone had seen me, I would've died of social embarrassment."

I try to understand how to absorb objects and store them inside Infinite Space.

---

07:45 AM

Gritting my teeth, I glare intensely at the vase in front of me. For twenty whole minutes, I've been muttering phrases, thinking hard, and humiliating myself.

I imagine smashing the damn thing to pieces.

Finally, I get the hang of it.

"It was my fault. I never paid attention to that strange sensation before."

The moment I focus that sensation with the intent to store the vase inside Infinite Space, a small black hole forms and instantly swallows the object before closing.

Without even checking, I know exactly where it is.

This secret will be taken to my grave. I will never tell anyone.

---

11:39 AM

I look around the now completely empty room.

"Okay… now that I'm somewhat used to Infinite Space and its limitations—like only being able to absorb one object at a time, or interconnected objects, and having to actively control the absorption for large-scale intake—I need a real plan."

"I have one month to make full use of this ability."

"I need weapons, ammunition, gasoline, food, and entertainment if I don't want to go insane. Entertainment is secondary, though."

Thinking alone won't solve anything.

"I need to write everything down."

Thankfully, the system has a digital planner. Otherwise, I'd have to worry about storing a notebook.

"But first… I should eat. As much as I can."

---

15:47

"Alright… let's check one last time to see if the list is in order."

I scroll back to the beginning.

#===========#

(1) Rent an apartment in Jiang City, preferably next to the protagonist for future convenience and survival.

(2) Go on the trip my predecessor had planned and obtain as much military and restricted equipment as possible.

(Avoid Asia and North America—those countries would enter high alert, which could drastically alter future events. Important characters might die or survive differently. Better not risk it.)

(3) Keep my job at the massive general warehouse I currently work at. One or two days before the Apocalypse, empty the entire warehouse into Infinite Space.

(Clothes, mattresses, food, water, and other goods can be secured this way. For safety, also empty several supermarkets during the trip.)

(4) Collect various medicines from multiple pharmacies.

(Never assume one store has everything or that all medicines are within expiration dates. In the future, medicine will be a hard currency.)

(5) Equipment for growing plants in confined spaces, fertilizers, and related materials.

(Necessary for future food convenience inside the Infinite Train and as insurance in case my ability doesn't block the Dark Matter contamination brought by the Apocalypse.)

"With these points, the most critical survival needs are covered."

"But fuel is still uncertain. Weapons too—how many can I get, and how much ammunition will I manage to secure?"

"Come to think of it, I should also gather construction materials. Steel plates and similar items."

"After all, Lin Xian—the original protagonist—can use these to upgrade the Infinite Train once I board it."

"But first, I need to think about how to approach him… and whether or not I should reveal my ability early."

After closing the system, having written everything down, I decide to leave the rest to improvisation.

"I was never one to cling to plans unless absolutely necessary."

I begin preparing travel information for the 'scheduled' trip, making adjustments—adding stops in countries with large oil reserves, fuel stockpiles, and those known for advanced medicine.

---

16:12

"That should be everything for the trip."

Huff…

"I'll be stopping in a lot of countries. My time will be tight—some places I'll only stay for a single day."

"Planning will have to be efficient if I want to secure medicine and construction materials."

"The second-to-last country will be in the Middle East. I'll gather as much fuel as I can get my hands on."

"The final stop will be South America."

"Taking weapons from the joint military base of Portugal, Argentina, and Bolivia will put them on maximum alert."

"I'll need to board a plane immediately after."

"Thankfully, Nova Brasília International Airport won't be closed—just heavily monitored."

"But with my ability, they won't find anything."

"After that, I'll return here, wait one or two days as needed, empty the warehouse, and head to Jiang City during a 'weekend trip'—everything perfectly 'normal'."

"And by sheer luck, I managed to rent the apartment next to the protagonist… after paying a 'generous' amount that place wouldn't be worth even in a hundred years."

---

23:01

I stand by the window, staring at the moon and the clear, peaceful sky—hiding what will happen in one month.

From this moment on, I have 29 days.

29 days to gather every resource I can with my own hands—before international travel becomes impossible and every remaining supply turns into something people will kill for.
