Gregory woke up and realized it was nighttime. He knew Charlie wasn't awake. He slipped out of his room, opening the door gently. He went down the stairs and looked around the mansion.
Grégoire checked the family room, the kitchen, and the other rooms.
He stepped out to the back. He saw a nice garden, and in the darkness, a large figure crouched in front of a flowerbed. As it stood up, it took notice of Grégoire's presence.
As the figure approached, Grégoire froze in fear, unable to run. The moment the looming figure stood right in front of him, it bowed gently.
The dark figure spoke in a deep, manly voice. His tone was oddly friendly, like a father greeting his kid.
"Greetings, Master William. What are you doing out this late?"
"H-hello. Greetings as well. I'm just looking around."
He quickly walked back inside the manor and closed the door.
He ran deeper inside, terrified of the person he had just confronted. He sat down on the floor and thought to himself: "What am I doing..." He sighed and stood back up.
He walked through the manor and went into the kitchen. He looked around and saw a small plate on the kitchen table.
Grégoire walked out and sat down to eat in the dark dining room, the moon the only thing illuminating the space slightly.
As he kept eating, he saw Charlie standing at the door with a broom, lifting it like a weapon. She wasn't wearing her usual uniform; she was wearing a nightgown.
"Gods damn. You scared me."
She sighed and put the broom down, placing it against the wall.
It fell, making a thud that echoed in the empty house.
Grégoire laughed gently, amused by her.
Charlie sat down in the chair to his left.
"I really did think you died. I was relieved at the thought of not having you around."
Grégoire just stared at her and sighed.
"Why are you like this? I already told you I'm not William."
Charlie rolled her eyes and stood up.
"I don't trust you. Prove it to me that you don't remember anything."
Grégoire looked up at her.
"How can I prove something I don't remember? That makes no sense, Ms. Charlie."
Charlie bent down, grabbed the broom, and walked out, clearly annoyed.
Grégoire just sat there, finishing his meal. As soon as he was done, he went back to the kitchen and started washing his plate in the sink. As he did, he looked out the window...
He noticed something strange in the sky.
He saw two moons-one that looked close to the one he knew, and another smaller, bright blue one.
He stared at it in awe for a moment, then went back to cleaning the dish, his mind on the blue moon's appearance.
He finished cleaning it and closed the cabinet gently.
Grégoire thought to himself: I've seen things more odd here. This shouldn't surprise me anymore.
As he walked through the hallway, he saw something moving at the end of it.
A lanky guy with elf ears, black scruffy hair, and a formal butler uniform. He was holding a big book.
"Yo..." He smiled sheepishly.
"Me...?" He pointed to himself.
The butler just nodded.
"Sure, man."
He scurried off past him, leaving Grégoire alone once more.
As Grégoire climbed the stairs, he entered the room he was staying in.
He closed the door and sat down at the desk chair. To cure his boredom, he looked through the room and saw a small leather notebook, similar to the one he once had.
He looked around the room for a moment, then opened it to the first page.
He read through it, page after page. When the topic of William came up, William mentioned his past as Grégoire.
"Now in this life, I can do whatever I want to. I can be whoever I please. No one can say no to me otherwise. My 'parents' don't give a shit if I grope the staff."
As soon as Grégoire read that, he closed the notebook and stared at it for a moment.
Now he knew the truth. The reality of his situation.
He wasn't body-swapped. He had forgotten what made him William.
