Chapter 60 - Chapter 59: Bar Games!

One of the afternoon's key scenes:

Thor tries to lift Mjolnir, but because he is unworthy, the hammer doesn't budge.

The Warriors Four watch from the side.

This scene required Chris Hemsworth to portray an emotional shift from confidence to shock, and finally to breakdown.

The first few takes went smoothly. Chris acted with layered nuance.

For the crucial take, he needed to pull the hammer with all his might, then fall backward due to inertia when the hammer didn't move.

"Action!"

Chris's expression was solemn. He gripped the handle with both hands and exerted force violently!

According to the plan, the hammer wouldn't move, and the recoil would make him fall backward.

Whether it was because the ground was a bit slippery or Chris was too immersed and used too much force, his foot slipped. Instead of gracefully falling backward, he stumbled back several steps.

His arms flailed wildly, and finally, he landed on his butt with a "thud," still gripping the hammer tightly.

"Pfft—"

Cassius, standing by watching, was the first to fail holding it in, laughing out loud. He quickly raised his hand and pretended to cough to cover it up.

Beside him, Jaimie and Ray Stevenson also broke instantly, their shoulders shaking like sieves.

Even the usually serious Tadanobu Asano turned his face away, his body trembling slightly.

Director Branagh, sitting behind the monitor, was stunned for a second, then doubled over laughing, the hand holding the walkie-talkie shaking.

"Cut! Cut! Chris! Are you breakdancing?"

Sitting on the ground, Chris found it both annoying and funny. He raised the hammer and complained to the hammerhead:

"Hey! Old buddy! Can't you cooperate a little? I've never been so embarrassed in my life!"

Laughter erupted across the set.

The prop master quickly ran over to check the hammer and the ground, confirming there were no issues.

Chris climbed up, dusted off his butt, flipped the bird at Cassius and the others who were still snickering, and scolded laughingly:

"You disloyal bunch!"

They shot two more takes.

This time Chris controlled his strength well, perfectly portraying the frustration of being abandoned by the hammer.

At wrap time, everyone was still joking about Chris's breakdancing.

Chris was open-minded about it and joined in on roasting himself.

"Looks like my hammer wanted to see a different kind of performance today."

The daytime in New Mexico could dry a person out like jerky.

Once the sun went down, it was like a roller coaster—the temperature plummeted.

After rolling around in the sand all day, Cassius returned to the crew's hotel, washed off the sand, and felt like his bones were about to fall apart.

Just as he put on a clean T-shirt, there was a knock on the door.

He opened it.

Chris stood outside with his slightly messy blonde hair.

Energetic as hell, showing no signs of having rolled around in the desert all day.

This guy must have super testosterone!

"Hey! Stop hiding! Restaurant downstairs, my treat, let's grab a drink!"

Chris's voice was booming. "I invited Jaimie, Asano, plus Natalie and Kat. More people, more fun!"

Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings?

Cassius was a bit surprised.

Although they were on the same crew, he hadn't interacted much with these two.

One was a renowned talented actress, formerly the little girl in Léon: The Professional.

The other was a comedy star who later became a household name with 2 Broke Girls.

But since Chris invited him, he didn't act coy and nodded.

"Sure, I'll be right down!"

The hotel restaurant was mostly booked by the crew, set up as a buffet plus bar.

When Cassius arrived, almost everyone was there.

Chris, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano sat at one table. At a slightly smaller table nearby sat Natalie and Kat, conversing quietly.

Seeing Cassius, Chris waved immediately, then raised his voice towards Natalie's table.

"Ladies! Stop having your own private party, come join us! Tonight there's no Asgard or Earth division!"

Natalie looked up, smiled elegantly, exchanged a glance with Kat, and walked over with her glass.

Kat Dennings was much livelier. She looked Cassius up and down curiously, grinning brightly.

"Hey! Fandral. I saw Insidious. Scared me so bad I didn't sleep well for days!"

"Hope I didn't leave any psychological scars."

Cassius joked and pulled out a chair to sit.

Everyone was here!

The atmosphere was slightly reserved.

After all, they were from different camps, Asgard and Earth.

Chris skillfully played the role of icebreaker, picking up a beer bottle to pour for everyone.

"Relax, guys! We're off the clock!"

"Forget Mjolnir and astrophysics. Let's talk about normal people stuff. Like when will this damn desert be kinder to us?"

This made everyone laugh, and the atmosphere instantly relaxed.

After a few drinks, the topic drifted from complaining about the weather.

Kat Dennings lived up to her reputation as a comedian.

Her mimicry skills were amazing.

She perfectly imitated an extra's dumbfounded expression upon seeing Chris in full Thor gear today—looking as if they had seen God—making the whole table burst into laughter.

"Speaking of which!"

Jaimie Alexander laughed and chimed in, looking at Chris.

"Chris, the way you tried to tame that chair today was way more exciting than lifting the hammer."

She was referring to when Chris sat on a wooden chair during a break and crushed it.

The whole crew had nearly died laughing!

Chris had trained for a long time to build his muscles for Thor.

He hadn't expected the chair, which looked sturdy, to collapse under his bulk!

Hearing this, he was a bit embarrassed!

Chris covered his face. "Please! Don't mention it! That chair was definitely a Midgardian conspiracy!"

Natalie Portman didn't talk much, but every time she spoke, it was substantive, carrying a scholarly humor.

She talked about her previous experience studying at Harvard, roasting the odd rules of academia, which seemed both similar and different compared to Hollywood.

Cassius listened most of the time, interjecting occasionally.

He noticed the initial favorability above Natalie's head was [30], and Kat's was [35].

Chris felt chatting wasn't exciting enough and clapped his hands.

"How about we play 'Never Have I Ever'?"

"Simple, honest, promotes understanding!"

The rules were simple: one person states something they have never done, and everyone present who has done it must take a drink.

Game start.

Chris went first. He looked around and smirked mischievously. "Never have I ever laughed on set so hard the director had to come cover my mouth."

"Pfft!"

"Hey!"

Jaimie, Ray Stevenson, and even Tadanobu Asano laughed and shook their heads, picking up their glasses to drink.

Clearly, the laughter from the fire hydrant scene this morning had widespread collateral damage.

When it was Kat Dennings' turn, her eyes darted around, flashing with cunning.

"Never have I ever accidentally forgotten my lines because I got lost in my co-actor's eyes!"

Several male actors chuckled and drank.

Cassius hesitated, then also picked up his glass and drank.

On the set of Insidious, facing Lin Shaye's immersive performance, he indeed had a moment of spacing out.

Kat noticed him drinking and winked at him, a meaningful smile on her lips.

The favorability above her head quietly rose to [40].

After a few rounds, quite a bit of alcohol had been consumed, and the atmosphere grew warmer.

Cassius saw Natalie's favorability rise to [45], and others also increased.

It was Natalie's turn. She gently swirled her glass.

"Never have I ever chatted with someone past midnight via text until dawn, but couldn't remember exactly what we talked about."

The expressions of the younger people became subtle. They touched their glasses, and a few drank with a smile.

Cassius noticed Chris rubbed his nose and drank too. Seems Thor also had late-night chat sessions.

Cassius thought about it. Back in school, maybe once or twice?

He picked up his glass too.

Natalie looked at Cassius with some surprise, a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

Natalie's favorability rose to [48].

Kat immediately started teasing.

"Whoa! Cass! Didn't see that coming! Does the Asgardian warrior do online dating too?"

She deliberately exaggerated the "online dating" part.

Cassius quickly waved his hand. "Don't talk nonsense. At most, academic discussion!"

He tried to salvage his image.

Chris waved his hand dismissively. "Doesn't matter! Drank means drank! Next!"

When it was Cassius's turn, he felt several gazes on him, especially Kat's, filled with obvious curiosity.

He pondered for a moment and said, "Never have I ever thought about secretly taking a small prop as a souvenir after wrapping."

As soon as he said this, Chris started coughing violently, his face turning red.

He glared fiercely at Cassius.

Chris suspected Cassius was calling him out on wanting to stash Mjolnir!

He quickly downed a large gulp of alcohol to cover it up.

Jaimie and Kat also drank with a smile. Seems girls had no resistance to this slightly sentimental and romantic little habit.

Natalie looked at Cassius and said softly, "Sometimes souvenirs aren't for remembering the role, but for remembering that time!"

She drank too.

Natalie's favorability rose to [50].

Kat was getting into the game. When it was her turn again, she threw out a bold one.

"Never have I ever accidentally walked in on a 'scenery' I shouldn't have seen in the dressing room on set."
