Chapter 263 - Chapter 261: Cold Water, Hot Drama — The Challenge That Hijacked Hollywood

The freezing water slammed down like a gut punch. Cassius's whole body jerked hard as the icy blast exploded over his head and raced down his neck, back, and straight through him.

His T-shirt plastered to his skin in seconds. Ice cubes cracked against his skull and shoulders, a few sliding straight down his collar.

He kept his eyes shut and teeth clenched until the last trickle stopped. Then he shook the water from his hair, droplets catching the light, and looked straight at the camera.

"I'm tagging Chris Hemsworth," he said. "Your turn, brother."

He double-checked the clip and dropped it straight onto Facebook and Twitter. "Taking the challenge and dropping a hundred grand. @ChrisHemsworth, you're up. #IceBucketChallenge #SupportALS"

Fifteen minutes later his phone was already lighting up. Shares had blown past two thousand.

"Holy shit, Cassius just dropped a hundred grand?!"

"That face when the water hit—brutal. I felt that chill through the screen."

"He tagged Thor? Sitting here waiting for Hemsworth's payback."

"Went and checked Pete's page. Cassius is following him too."

Pete Frates himself retweeted the video. "Thanks, Cassius. Not just for the money—for actually seeing me. That hits different for me and every other ALS patient out here."

People started clicking through to learn what ALS actually was.

Twenty minutes later Chris Hemsworth fired back with a meme of Thor looking completely done. "Just finished my workout! @Cassius, meeting you might be the worst decision of my life (heart emoji). Your move."

An hour after that, Chris's video hit from his backyard in Australia. He stood there in nothing but shorts, a mountain of ice in a huge blue bucket in front of him. "Cassius, you absolute bastard."

He grinned at the camera, pure revenge in his eyes. "Dropping a hundred grand and passing this along. @KristenStewart, your boyfriend started this mess—you're riding with it."

Chris roared and dumped the whole thing over his head. Water and ice exploded everywhere. He staggered, muscles shining, then flipped off the camera.

"Thor tags Kristen" became the new trending tag in minutes.

Kristen answered an hour and a half later from her hotel room. White tank top, cutoff shorts, no makeup, hair thrown up messy. A hotel ice bucket sat in front of her, packed with ice and water.

"@ChrisHemsworth, I'm remembering this. Dropping a hundred grand. And @JenniferLawrence—big sis, blame Cassius and his crew for dragging you in."

She poured more gracefully than the guys, tilting her head so most of it hit her neck and back, but she still shivered hard, teeth chattering. At the end she wrapped herself in a big towel and stared at the camera. "Cassius, you better sleep with one eye open tonight."

The #IceBucketChallenge tag went nuclear. Jennifer jumped in an hour later from her backyard in cartoon pajamas, donated a hundred grand, and tagged Chris Evans.

It turned into a full celebrity relay. Avengers cast, Fast crew, Twilight stars, Harry Potter actors—everyone was jumping in.

Media lit up. "Ice Bucket Challenge Explodes from Hollywood to the World."

The ALS Association posted a grateful thread: donations had already smashed their monthly total in just a few hours.

Warner's "Doomsday Collapse" survival clips got buried. Comments started roasting Dwayne Johnson to take the challenge.

Marvel's "The Ancient One" page filled with jokes about magic versus ice water.

At Warner headquarters, Michael Carter watched the engagement numbers for "Doomsday Collapse" crater. His face went tight. They'd just approved another big push of survival videos, but everything had shifted to the challenge.

"Did they plan this?" Sarah asked.

"Doesn't matter," Michael said, voice cold. "Their heat is steamrolling ours. All that money we spent got hijacked by this stupid ice bucket thing."

He stared at Cassius's clip—the actor looking calm after the dousing, like it was nothing.

"The more casual he acts, the more it pisses me off."

A young marketer suggested having Dwayne do his own challenge.

Michael shut it down. "And donate? That just hands them the win."

Silence.

"We wait," he said finally. "Viral stuff burns out. Let it fade. Then we hit them with real opening-weekend numbers."

He added, "Keep watching them. I don't buy that Cassius is just casually doing charity."

Michael stayed in the conference room all night, coffee and cigarettes stacking up. By 3 a.m. the curve started climbing. By 5:30 the challenge was number one trending.

"Doomsday Collapse" had dropped to twelfth and was still sliding.

ALS donations had hit millions. News outlets were calling it a movement.

Michael felt sick watching Chris Evans do the challenge and tag Robert Downey Jr., turning it into a full Avengers chain.

The data team showed the chain started with Cassius, then Hemsworth, Stewart, Lawrence, Evans, Downey—a tight Hollywood circle.

It was boosting "The Ancient One" fan growth and engagement like crazy.

Michael realized Cassius had a way of breaking the usual rules and still hitting exactly what the public responded to.

They couldn't copy it without looking desperate. People were already tired of their survival series.

So they waited for box office to decide.

But the challenge kept growing instead of dying off.

Cassius woke up to headlines about it going global, with Marvel stars all jumping in.

He checked Pete's page—thanks pouring in, people actually learning about ALS.

Then an email from Kevin Feige calling a meeting at Marvel.

At the meeting they laid out the numbers. The challenge had exploded, and "The Ancient One" was riding the wave hard.

Kevin looked at Cassius. "Textbook viral marketing. You pulled it off without even trying."

They planned to lean into it—more donations in the crew's name, fun magic-science posts, a video call with Pete.

Kevin noted Warner was scrambling and their own attempt at copying the challenge had flopped.

They bumped the movie's pre-sales allocation.

Afterward Kevin pulled Cassius aside. "You're the core asset on this now. Keep it up."

Cassius left the building and checked his phone. Comments under Warner's account were roasting them for staying quiet. Fans from the challenge were already asking about "The Ancient One."

He texted Kristen about dinner. She fired back that she was getting revenge for the ice water.

He smiled, started the car, and pulled into traffic.

On the way he caught more news—Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, the whole crew joining in.

The challenge wasn't slowing down. It was turning into something bigger.
