Chapter 5 - The First Miracle

Shawn noticed his hands were shaking.

Impatient, he stood up and raised both hands while closing his eyes.

'I want to be on a beach,' he thought intensely.

He waited.

Nothing happened.

Shawn opened his eyes and looked around.

He was still in his apartment.

"Nothing happened!" Shawn complained, looking at the book with frustration.

The content of the book changed.

[To create a miracle, you must first recite it]

Shawn frowned.

"What exactly do I have to recite to go to the beach right now?" Shawn asked, crossing his arms.

The book's content changed, and a very long text appeared before him.

["Oh God, who set the bounds of the sea and called the waters by their name, hear now the voice of the one who invokes You.

If it be Your will, grant this servant rest where the sand receives the traveler and the murmur of the waves calms the spirit.

Not by my own merit do I ask this, but by the Word that has been entrusted to me.

Lead me, oh God, to the place where the sun bows over the water, and let my feet know the shore that Your creation established."]

Shawn blinked.

"Do I seriously have to read all that?" he muttered, feeling laziness start to take over.

But curiosity was stronger.

Shawn took a deep breath and began to read aloud.

"Oh God, who set the bounds of the sea and called the waters by their name, hear now the voice of the one who invokes You…"

Halfway through the text, Shawn was already getting tired.

"If it be Your will, grant this servant rest where the sand receives the traveler…"

But he kept reading.

"Lead me, oh God, to the place where the sun bows over the water, and let my feet know the shore that Your creation established."

As soon as he finished the last word, Shawn felt a breeze.

Fwooosh!

The salty wind hit his face.

Shawn snapped his eyes open.

He was on a beach.

There were girls in bikinis sunbathing. Children playing in the water. The sound of waves crashing against the shore.

And he was still in his pajamas, which were slowly filling with sand.

"What…?" Shawn muttered, looking around with eyes as wide as saucers.

"Mommy, mommy!" a child screamed, pointing at him. "That man appeared out of nowhere!"

Several people began to stare at him.

Shawn felt the heat rise to his cheeks.

"Hey, who are you?" a young guy asked, approaching curiously. "What kind of trick did you use to pop up like that?"

Shawn started to sweat.

"Uh… I…"

Quickly, he opened the book and whispered to it:

"Show me another text to get back to my room!"

The book's content changed, and another long text appeared.

["Oh God, who knows the dwelling of every man and is not ignorant of the place where his body rests, hear again the voice of the one who invokes You.

If it be Your will, return this servant to the space given to him to inhabit, where the walls guard his weariness and the roof covers him from the world.

I ask not for greatness nor a sign, but to return to the place from which I was set apart by Your Word and Your design.

Lead me, oh God, to the room You know, and allow my feet to touch again the ground where this prayer began."]

Shawn began to read aloud, ignoring the strange looks from the people around him.

"Oh God, who knows the dwelling of every man and is not ignorant of the place where his body rests…"

People looked at him as if he were insane.

"Lead me, oh God, to the room You know, and allow my feet to touch again the ground where this prayer began."

Fwooosh!

Shawn felt the wind disappear.

He opened his eyes.

He was back in his room, in the exact same spot he had been before.

Shawn let out a sigh of relief.

"It worked," he muttered, looking at the book in awe.

But then, he felt a sharp headache.

The pain was intense, as if someone were driving needles into his brain.

Shawn clutched his head, feeling exhaustion wash over him.

"What… what's happening?" Shawn asked in a weak voice.

The book's content changed.

[That is the side effect. Fatigue from performing miracles]

Shawn collapsed onto his bed, feeling his eyes close on their own,
