Fay dragged Kei inside and shut the door to the house. The hallway was getting soaked, but Fay didn't care. She could see Kei was shaking uncontrollably from the cold.
"Come here," Fay said firmly. She led Kei into the large bathroom and turned on the hot water in the shower. The room quickly filled with warm steam.
Kei tried to stand, but her legs were weak. "Fay… I'm sorry," she whispered.
"Don't talk," Fay replied. She was acting like a doctor now because it was the only way she could keep herself from crying.
Fay started to take off Kei's wet shirt. Her hands were shaking. As she take the wet clothes off, she saw how pale Kei was. It had been ten years since they were this close. Fay could see Kei's heart beating fast.
Fay stripped off the rest of Kei's wet clothes and quickly wrapped her in a big, warm towel. She began rubbing Kei's arms to get her blood moving again.
Suddenly, Kei reached out and touched Fay's face. "You're crying," Kei said softly.
Fay stopped. She hadn't realized that tears were falling down her cheeks. She looked at Kei and all the anger she had been holding for ten years turned into pain.
"I hate you for doing this," Fay sobbed. "I hate that you can just show up and make me feel this way again. I should have left you outside, but I can't."
Kei didn't tell a joke this time. She just leaned her forehead against Fay's. "Then hate me," Kei whispered. "Just please don't make me go away again."
Fay made a sound between a laugh and a cry. She hugged Kei tightly, even though they were both wet.
"If you get sick and die in my house, I will never forgive you," Fay warned.
"I'll stay alive," Kei promised, finally closing her eyes as she felt the warmth of the house and Fay's arms.
