Chapter 58 - Chapter 58

 SALTWATER AND SILENCE

The roar of the city and the high-pressure hum of the Luz Group headquarters finally faded, replaced by the rhythmic, deep breathing of the ocean. The private villa was a masterpiece of glass and driftwood, perched on a Cliffside overlooking a secluded stretch of ivory sand.

Kei stood on the balcony, her eyes closed, letting the salty breeze pull the tension from her shoulders. For the first time in weeks, she wasn't looking at a spreadsheet or a production line. She was just breathing.

"If I see you check your phone once, I'm throwing it into the Atlantic," Sofia called out, stepping onto the villa with two chilled glasses of coconut water.

Kei let out a genuine, soft laugh the first one that had reached her eyes in a long time. She took a glass and leaned against the railing. "The reception is terrible out here anyway. You planned this perfectly."

"I had help," Sofia teased, gesturing toward the garden below.

Down on the patio, Mrs. Luz and Sofia's mother were busy supervising the setup of a massive seafood grill. They were arguing over the proper way to season shrimp, their voices carrying up to the balcony with a comforting, familiar warmth. It was a domestic scene that felt worlds away from Kei's life as a CEO and restaurant owner.

"Come on," Sofia said, nudging Kei's arm. "The tide is low. Let's go down before the moms start making us peel garlic."

The two friends kicked off their sandals and made their way down the private stone steps to the beach. The sand was still warm from the afternoon sun, soft and yielding under their feet. Kei felt a strange sense of lightness. Here, she wasn't the owner of fifteen K-Street branches or the head of a car empire. She was just a daughter, a friend and a woman trying to find her center again.

They walked along the shoreline, the cool foam of the waves chasing their ankles. Sofia started recounting a ridiculous story about a failed business merger, making exaggerated gestures that had Kei doubled over in laughter.

"And then," Sofia gasped, trying to keep a straight face, "he tried to pay the deposit by dancing!"

Kei shook her head, her dark hair blowing wildly in the wind. "People are truly insane, Sofia."

"Business is insane, Kei. We just happen to be good at it," Sofia replied, her expression turning slightly more serious. "It's good to see you smiling. Really smiling."

Kei looked out at the horizon, where the sky was turning a bruised shade of purple and gold. "I forgot what it felt like to just… be. Without a mission. Without trying to win a war."

They spent the rest of the afternoon like they were teenagers again hunting for unique seashells, racing each other to the tide pools and eventually sitting in the shallow water as the sun began to set.

As the stars began to poke through the twilight, Kei felt a sense of peace she hadn't known since she returned to the country. The weight on her chest hadn't disappeared, but the ocean seemed to have washed away the sharpest edges of her pain. For tonight, there were no restaurants to run, no cars to build and no ghosts to chase. There was only the salt on her skin and the sound of her best friend's laughter echoing against the cliffs.
