Maya moved through the kitchen slowly, her body heavy with exhaustion. Water still clung to her clothes, cold against her skin, but she didn't dare change. She didn't dare complain. Arguing back was no longer an option not after Bella had made herself perfectly clear.
As long as Maya stayed in the house Bella paid for, she would do whatever Bella wanted.
The memory stung. When the rent bill had arrived, Maya had set it aside, telling herself she'd pay later telling herself there would be time to find more money. But there had been no time. Everything had collapsed at once, and just like that, Bella had taken control of the house… and of her.
Now, Maya stood at the stove, forcing herself to cook.
She sighed softly as she stirred the pot, her hands trembling. She knew this wasn't about food. None of it was. Everything happening was meant to push her out, to break her spirit until she left on her own. And yet, she had nowhere else to go. No door left to knock on. So she endured because enduring was the only choice she had.
Her chest tightened as tears burned at the back of her throat. She swallowed them down, refusing to let them fall. Being betrayed by the very people she had always supported cut deeper than hunger, deeper than exhaustion. It was a quiet, cruel kind of pain.
When the food was finally ready, Maya plated it carefully, arranging everything .She set the table in silence, her movements automatic, her heart painfully heavy .
Bella entered first confident, composed.
And beside her, Damson walked in, his fingers laced with hers.
Maya froze.
The sight alone was enough to shatter whatever strength she had left.
Seeing the man she had once loved standing beside another woman so openly, so unapologetically without a single glance in her direction, felt like a final betrayal. She forced herself to look at them without emotion, schooling her face into emptiness. Then she sighed quietly and turned toward her room.
That was when it happened.
Bella suddenly spat the food from her mouth right onto Maya.
Maya froze in place.
"Gosh!" Bella shrieked, pushing her plate away. "Do you want me to get fat and ugly like you? Why did you use so much cooking oil?"
Damson let out a short laugh and wrapped an arm around Bella. "Honey, calm down. Let her be. She's always useless. I don't even know why you insisted she cook for us."
Maya slowly lifted her eyes.
She had at least expected Damson to stand up for her. To tell Bella to stop. To ask if she was okay.
But instead, there he was comforting the woman who had just humiliated her.
Her chest ached as she looked away, confusion and pain twisting inside her. She didn't understand what she had done to deserve this. She lowered her gaze, her hands clenched at her sides.
Bella stood abruptly, anger radiating from her. She stormed away, her heels echoing sharply across the floor. Damson hurried after her, but just before leaving, he stopped.
He turned back sharply.
Without saying a word, he pulled out his phone and typed quickly, his jaw clenched. When he was done, he stepped closer and held the screen up in front of Maya's face.
Don't you dare try to make my woman sad.
If Bella cries because of you, I will make your life miserable.Bella stood abruptly, anger radiating from her. She stormed away, her heels echoing sharply across the floor. Damson hurried after her, but just before leaving, he stopped.

Then he followed Bella without looking back.
Maya exhaled shakily.
She walked to the sink and quietly washed her face, scrubbing away the food, the humiliation… the tears she refused to let fall in front of them. But once she was alone, the sobs came freely.
Why was everything happening to her?
"Maybe this is a dream," she thought to herself. "Maybe tomorrow Damson will come back to his senses…"
Oh, how wrong she was.
The days that followed were even worse.
Heavily pregnant, Maya was still forced to do all the chores she had done before but now she was ordered around like a dog. Mocked. Laughed at. Treated as if she were nothing.
Every night, she held her belly and prayed for strength.
She prayed to give birth soon.
Because maybe just maybe after that, she would finally find a way forward.
After finishing the heavy chores, Maya slowly made her way toward her room, her body aching with exhaustion. She was just pushing the door open when she noticed someone standing behind her.
Damson .
The sight of him startled her.
She stared at him, Damson pulled out his phone and typed quickly, then turned the screen toward her.
Maya, I'm sorry. I've been a jerk.
I've broken up with Bella. I want to be a present father to our child.
I even bought vitamins for the baby.
Maya read every word carefully.
Then she looked up at him.
A cold scoff escaped her lips. "Do you really think I don't know your plans?" she said quietly. "How heartless."
Damson froze.
His eyes widened in shock. "You… you can talk?" he asked aloud. "Can you hear me?"
"Yes," Maya replied calmly. "I can hear you very well."
Damson stared at her as if she were a ghost.
That morning, Bella had dumped a huge pile of laundry in front of her, barking strict instructions. "Make sure all of this dries today," she had snapped before walking away.
Maya obeyed, as always.
But as she scrubbed the clothes, exhaustion overtook her. Her foot slipped. She fell hard her head striking the washing machine, then the cold floor.
Pain exploded through her skull.
She gasped and froze.
She could hear it.
The rush of water. The hum of the machine. The distant noises of the house.
When she tried to speak, her throat burned, her voice cracked but it came out.
"I… I can hear," she whispered in disbelief.
Tears filled her eyes.
Her first thought was Damson.
I must tell him, she thought desperately. This is good news. Maybe now… maybe everything will go back to normal.
She walked toward his room, still dizzy, still aching.
And that was when her world shattered completely.
Through the half-open door, she saw him.
Damson stood there with a bottle of pills in his hand, speaking softly on the phone with Bella .
"I'll give them to her tonight," he said. "She won't suspect anything. After that… everything will be solved."
Maya's heart stopped.
The pills.
They weren't vitamins.
They were meant to kill her and her unborn child.
She stepped back silently, her hands shaking, her entire body numb with betrayal. She didn't
Damson's face drained of color.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, guilt flashing through his eyes despite his attempt to sound calm.
Maya didn't answer. With trembling hands, she pulled out her phone and pressed play.
His voice filled the room clear, undeniable laying out the plan. The pills. The timing. Everything.
Damson stared at the screen in horror.
Then, without warning, he lunged forward and snatched the phone from her hand.
"You think you're smart?" he snarled.
Before Maya could react, he kicked her hard in the stomach.
The pain was blinding.
She collapsed to the floor with a cry, clutching her belly as agony tore through her. From the corner of the room, Bella stepped forward slowly, chewing on an apple as if she were watching a show.
"Tsk," Bella said coldly. "So you can talk now."
She tilted her head and smiled cruelly. "But it doesn't matter. This man is already mine. And you're not reporting anyone anyway."
Maya cried out in pain, tears streaming down her face. Bella knelt beside her and dragged a knife lightly across her cheek, leaving burning pain behind.
Maya sobbed but through the pain, she forced the words out.
"You two… will pay for this."
That was when Damson lost control completely.
He grabbed her roughly, dragging her weak body toward the staircase. With one violent shove, he pushed her down.
Everything went silent.
Maya lay at the bottom of the stairs, unmoving, her face streaked with blood.
Damson rushed down, panic overtaking him. He knelt and shook her, pressing his fingers to her neck.
"She's not breathing," he whispered, his voice breaking. "She's dead."
Bella looked at her body for a moment then shrugged.
"Isn't this what we wanted?" she said calmly. "Let's take her to the mountains. We'll make it look like an accident."
Damson hesitated, shaking but fear won.
They wrapped her body, carried her to the car, and drove deep into the mountains under the cover of darkness. When they were done, they fled in panic, leaving her behind among the rocks and trees.
Hours passed.
The night grew cold.
At dawn, an elderly woman walking along the mountain path noticed something strange a figure lying still, covered in blood.
She hurried closer and knelt beside her, gently touching her wrist.
"Oh my…" the woman gasped.
"She's still breathing."
