Chapter 123 - Stone Statues

Kazusa felt a pang of melancholy as she recalled how she'd been unable to help or resolve the incidents involving the mutant Silver Samurai and Chen Chen's later experiences at Kamar-Taj.

At that moment, Chen Chen slowly reached out and took Kazusa's tightly clenched hand, gently loosening her fist.

Sensing her beloved's tender gesture, Kazusa understood that Chen Chen didn't want to pressure her. She stole a glance at him, but his face remained calm and smiling. *What is this guy thinking about now?*

"I can never figure out what's going on in that guy's head," she thought, shaking her head slightly before turning her gaze back to Agamotto.

Agamotto extended his long arm and slowly pointed to the jumbled arrangement of peculiar stones surrounding them. The other Sorcerers followed his gaze toward a massive stone nearby.

These bizarrely shaped stones took on all manner of forms and displayed a variety of colors.

In truth, these stones could more accurately be called statues. Some resembled giant swords, others wild beasts, and still others six-winged angels. Their forms were incredibly varied.

Though no two statues were alike, they shared one common trait: none appeared to be the result of later artistic carving. Instead, they looked as if original objects and creatures had been petrified.

The lifelike poses of many of the creature-shaped statues sent shivers down the spines of the less courageous sorcerers present.

"These statues are your first assessment," Agamotto's voice echoed in the ears of the sorcerers. "Your task is to shatter one statue each. Only those who can break a statue will advance to the next stage."

Hearing this, the sorcerers' expressions shifted. A green-robed, bespectacled sorcerer raised his hand and asked, "Lord Agamotto, I am Janos. Is simply shattering the statues sufficient? Do these statues contain any mechanisms or traps?"

After Green-Robed Mage Janos finished speaking, the other sorcerers turned their gaze to Agamotto.

"That's an excellent question, and it's precisely what I was about to address," Agamotto replied, his voice calm and gentle as he met the green-robed sorcerer's gaze. "In my travels across the cosmos, I've explored countless dimensions within this galaxy and beyond. Throughout these journeys, my primary interest was to record everything I witnessed. The stone statues you see before you are based on the magical creatures and spirits I encountered during my travels.

Though they remain under my control, they possess the ability to act independently. Don't mistake them for mere stone golems. While they may fall short of their original forms in every aspect, they are more than sufficient to deal with you little ones."

As he spoke, Agamotto reached into his robe and rummaged around before pulling out a small, faintly glowing stone. From a distance, it appeared as a luminous orb, visible only to those with keen eyesight. Upon closer inspection, one could see that the stone was etched with intricate patterns and arcane runes.

Agamotto pointed at the rune stone with two fingers and raised it high. Under the bewildered gazes of the crowd, he addressed them from above: "This stone is imbued with a spell that will release the stone golems from their petrified state. When the stone strikes the ground, the spell will automatically trigger, and everything will officially begin. Seize your chance, little ones."

As Agamotto's words spread, all the Sorcerers except Chen Chen immediately focused their attention on the stone in his hand. The atmosphere grew increasingly tense, and the expressions on their faces gradually darkened, becoming solemn. Magical energy surged and receded around their bodies, mirroring the turmoil in their hearts.

A gentle breeze swept past as the stone arced through the air with a whistling sound. Under the watchful eyes of the Sorcerers, it struck a stone statue before rolling down and landing on the ground.

The sudden, crisp sound was like a boulder dropped into a calm lake, instantly sending massive waves crashing outward.

Below the high platform, countless streams of magical energy, each with its own distinct hue, surged forth in a dazzling display of color. The overwhelming surge of energy drastically increased the pressure in the area, causing even the upright blades of grass to bend their heads under its force.

From various vantage points, the multicolored streams of powerful magical energy instantly transformed into light arrows, streaking toward the stone statues. Each sorcerer had seized the perfect moment to unleash their attack.

*Boom! Boom! Boom!*

Within the stone statue cluster, a barrage of thunderous explosions erupted as the light arrows struck, their concussive force echoing throughout the entire forest.

In an instant, thick plumes of smoke billowed across the flat ground, obscuring everything within.

"Did it work? I poured everything I had into that last attack."

"From the feel of it, the energy should have struck the statues head-on."

"But this assessment won't be that easy to pass."

Facing the smoke-filled area of energy collision, the sorcerers maintained their guard, their magical auras flickering as they continued to release waves of energy.

Chen Chen remained motionless beside her. He hadn't made a move, and Kazusa, influenced by his stillness, also held back. She knew that in both strength and experience, Chen Chen far surpassed the sorcerers present. His inaction must have a reason.

Of course, it wasn't just Kazusa. Several weathered sorcerers stood upright on the ground like living pillars, their faces etched with the weight of years, also refraining from action.

Chen Chen gently released Kazusa's hand and stared into the swirling smoke ahead. His eyes suddenly narrowed. "They're here."

*Boom! Boom! Boom!*

Countless massive tornadoes erupted from the smoke, instantly dissipating the dense, impenetrable fog. The scene that emerged left many young sorcerers speechless.

The stone statues they had attacked stood before them completely unharmed. Even more shocking, the statues seemed to have been imbued with divine life.
