Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Future Dreams — Before the Coma

Scene One: Haru's Way of Treating People Before the Coma

Haru was an extremely kind child—so kind that people could easily take advantage of him. At school, he would hand his notebook to his friend Takumi whenever he asked, "Just to copy a few things," only to find the notebook missing the next day.

"It's okay," Haru would say with a gentle smile. "I'll just make a new one."

That kindness was part of who he was—but it often caused him trouble.

One day, Haru had a future dream. He saw Takumi stealing his wallet during gym class. He woke up frightened, but instead of staying silent, he decided to talk to Takumi before it happened.

"Takumi… if you need money, just tell me. You don't have to steal."

Takumi was shocked. After a moment, he admitted that he was broke and too afraid to ask for help. From that day on, Takumi became a true friend. Haru began using his dreams not just to protect himself, but to help others.

Scene Two: The Family's Neighbor and a Small Act of Kindness

In the neighborhood lived an elderly woman named Mrs. Yūko, lonely and often ill. Every week, Haru would buy her medicine and sit with her, listening to her stories.

One night, Haru dreamed that her house would catch fire because of an old stove. He woke up in panic and went to her immediately.

"Yūko-san, this stove is dangerous. Let me get you a new one."

She laughed warmly. "You're too kind, dear."

Haru used the money he had saved to buy her a new stove. A few days later, part of the dream came true—but because of the change, a major fire never happened.

Scene Three: The Boy Who Mocked Him

There was a boy in the neighborhood named Ryō who often made fun of Haru.

One day, Ryō said, "Haru, lend me 50 yen so I can buy my mom a gift. I'll return it tomorrow."

Haru gave him the money—but it never came back.

Later, Haru dreamed that Ryō would steal his bicycle in the coming days. Instead of confronting him harshly, Haru went to Ryō and said calmly:

"If you need money, I'll help you. But don't lie."

Ryō broke down and admitted that his father was sick. Haru gave him more money than before. From that day on, Ryō became a loyal friend.

Scene Four: Dreams That Helped Everyone

Haru continued to have many future dreams.

Once, he dreamed that a classmate would fall down the stairs—so he warned him and prevented the accident. Another time, he dreamed that a neighbor would lose her daughter at the market, so he stayed by her side and stopped it from happening.

People began to love Haru for his kindness. But some also took advantage of it.

Haru knew that very well.

Still, he told himself:

"Those who help others… will one day receive kindness in return."
