Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The First Monster – Haru’s Fear

Scene One: The Fleeing Monster

Haru walked alone through a foggy region of the dream world. The purple sky was veiled with thin clouds, and the ground felt soft, like colored sand.

Suddenly, he sensed swift movement to his left. A tall, slender shadow darted past him and vanished behind a large rock.

"Who's there?" Haru asked, raising his axe.

No answer came. The figure appeared again in the distance—dim red eyes, a body like moving black smoke. Every time Haru approached, it fled once more.

"Wait! I won't hurt you!" Haru shouted as he chased after it.

Scene Two: The Chase

A long pursuit began through the fog. The monster was incredibly fast, vanishing and reappearing elsewhere.

Haru used his imagination to keep up.

"I'll become faster!"

His body grew lighter, and he sprinted at superhuman speed.

"I'll fly!"

Purple wings spread from his back, lifting him above the fog to trap the creature.

"I'll shrink!"

He reduced his size, slipping through narrow gaps between rocks where the monster hid.

Each time he got close, the creature escaped, whispering in a broken, trembling voice:

"Stay away… don't come closer… I'm afraid…"

Haru began to realize—it wasn't an enemy.

It was something born from within him.

Scene Three: Understanding

At last, in an open space, the monster stopped. It could run no further. Its body trembled, red eyes filled with fear.

Haru landed gently, lowered his axe, and extended his hand calmly.

"I won't hurt you. I just want to understand you. Who are you?"

After a pause, the monster spoke, its voice weak and fractured:

"I am your fear. Your fear of failure. Your fear of weakness.

Your fear of being abandoned if people discover you're not perfect.

I am what makes you run from yourself."

A sharp pain pierced Haru's chest.

"So… I'm afraid of you?"

The monster nodded slowly.

"You fear facing me. You fear admitting that you're not always strong."

Scene Four: Acceptance

Haru stepped closer and extended his hand further.

"But I don't want to run anymore. I want to accept you. You're a part of me."

The monster trembled violently.

"But if you accept me… you'll become weak."

Haru smiled—a sad, honest smile.

"Weakness isn't the end. Weakness is what makes me human.

If I accept you, I won't fear you anymore… and I won't fear being real."

Silence followed. Slowly, the red eyes faded into a gentle purple glow.

"No one has ever told me that before…" the monster whispered.

"Come," Haru said softly. "Let me accept you."

The creature reached out and touched Haru's hand. In that moment, its body transformed into a soft purple light and faded away, leaving a warm sensation deep in Haru's chest.

Scene Five: Tears of Joy

Haru stood alone, axe in hand. Tears fell from his eyes—tears of joy.

Tears of acceptance. Tears of understanding that fear was not an enemy, but a part of him.

Joceka and Narka appeared beside him.

Joceka smiled and said,

"You did it, Haru. You accepted your fear."

Narka nodded seriously.

"This was a major step. You've grown stronger."

Haru wiped his tears and laughed softly.

"Yeah… I accepted my fear. And now, I don't feel alone anymore."

Joceka raised his hand, forming a small purple sphere of light.

"Let's celebrate! The first fear has been accepted!"

Even Narka, despite his stern nature, allowed a faint smile.

The three laughed together as the glowing orb danced around them like gentle fireworks.
