~Soutarou POV, scene continues~
Soutarou sat at one end of the table with the M. Corp legal team, while Oak sat on the other end.
Soutarou looked around the room and said, "Let's begin."
Soutarou bluntly began, "Let's cut to the chase so we can discuss more research related topics, Professor Oak. I've never been a fan of bureaucracy and lengthy processes, nor eloquent words that mean nothing in actuality. So let's be blunt, our Morita Corporation has patented the ideas and begun further development of the Rotom Pokédex, dubbed the Rotodex or the Rotomdex."
"Additionally our Corporation has patented the Phone Pokédex or the Phonedex. For both products, we wish for you to promote it and be an involved party for our 'Dex' series of products to be the only recognized and official 'Dexes' going forwards. While I recognize that the Pokédex itself is a product you've made open source and that any company that develops them simply has to pay the Pokémon league a small usage fee, however we all know you've simply been waiting for a company to revolutionize the Pokédex. As such, we of Morita Corporation have jumped the gun and within months of your original release of the Pokédex improved upon it. So our simple question is… What's your price?"
Soutarou folded his hands and sat straight with a commanding aura that made some of the Morita Corporation Legal team do a double take. Professor Oak paused for a moment as if reminiscing and his two lawyers looked back at him before looking back at Soutarou, the trio made some silent deliberation.
Professor Oak said, "My original intention in keeping the Pokédex an open source product was to disseminate it amongst the public, not privatize it. The profits I earn from the usage fees are used solely to fund my Pokémon Research-."
Soutarou tapped the table rhythmically as if slightly annoyed and he interjected, "I'm well aware of your well intentioned actions and even your goals of making the Pokémon World a safer one, however, without development and private funded research it cannot be furthered, nor can the Pokédex be evolved further."
"Here's my initial offer. 2.5 percent of all profits from the 'Dex Series' of products. In return the Morita Corporation gets the right to use your name in promotional videos relating to the Dex Series, promotional purposes for the Dex Series, the Morita Corporation is the sole company, corporation, or organization that is allowed to use your name in any Pokédex related products."
"This would be a lifetime contract, signed for one hundred years, after which point our two parties may renegotiate. Additionally, for the updates of Pokémon data, and map information, our Morita Corporation will handle the initial data and have it compiled and sent to you. At the moment we've charted 1025 Pokémon across the nine regions, or 874 additional Pokémon on top of the 151 that are already in the Pokédex's database."
"Additionally, we've discovered inconsistency with the current Pokédex's typings, and have reorganized it into Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Water type. Our new discoveries were Fairy, Steel, Dark type. With Poison and Ghost being separated due to inconsistencies. Of course, if you do not agree then this data will remain private and unique to Morita Corporation devices."
The Morita Legal Team began sweating and internally cursing while Oak's lawyers did the same as they all realized Soutarou was softly threatening to make Oak irrelevant in the Pokédex database process and cut off opposing companies all the same, even if Oak didn't participate. All realized that the Morita Heir was not here to play, but to essentially hoard the rights to the Pokédex.
Oak narrowed his eyes and put his hand on his chin and said, "Give us one moment."
Oak and his party negotiated while the Legal Team looked over at Soutarou who then sent a mental transmission to all of them, {This is a psychic message. Begin drafting a 5% of profit version of what I just said, with a minor edit that Professor Oak will be the discoverer of all new added Pokémon, with the Morita Corporation listed as co-discoverers so his merits in the Pokémon League go up and as does his reputation. For all intensive purposes we're only handing over the credit to soften the blow of hoarding the rights. Add lines about funding his research and his grandchildren, though highlight that his youngest grandson is only to use the funding for training pokemon. Begin drafting. I don't need you for the negotiation. Just one of you pay attention to what I'll be saying next. And don't speak out loud until after the meeting, I'll come to you afterwards.}
The head of the Morita Legal Team quickly flashed Soutarou an "ok" sign while Oak's party finished up and Professor Oak said, "After some deliberation, we've agreed to all of your original terms, except for the profit share, duration, and method of incentive. Instead I request a 10% profit share of the 'Dex Series', that the duration be lowered to twenty years, and a three percent share of Morita Corporation stock."
Soutarou's expression didn't change at all, but internally he cursed, 'These bastards… right now I have exactly 52% of the entire company's stock… if I agree to this I lose my majority… Exactly three percent huh? Alright. If that's how you'll play.'
Soutarou didn't even hesitate for a moment and said, "No. That's too high, we're doing all the work, we're just using your work as groundwork. Counter offer, 3.5% profit and no stock still for one hundred years. Instead we'll throw in the Pokémon data as a plus and give Professor Oak the discoverer credit, but the Morita Corporation must be listed as a co-discoverer. Don't forget how much you'll earn from the League Merit alone."
The trio paused for a moment and lowered their asking price to 8.5% profit and 2.5% stock for a twenty-five year contract, along with the discoverer credit.
Soutarou again denied and said, "4%% Profit, no shares, still one hundred years. Though I'll throw in full and complete funding of your research lab Professor Oak, as well as complete funding of Blue Oak's Pokémon breeding and training, along with complete funding for Daisy Oak's research, and… hell, I'll even fund Gary Oak's Pokémon training, though only his training costs."
The trio spoke much longer amongst each other and sighed and one of the lawyers spoke up and said, "Mr. Morita let's meet in the middle for 6.5% profit of the 'Dex Series,' with 2% of Morita Corporation shares for fifty years. Along with the additional terms you've added."
Soutarou frowned and said, "I'm sorry I will not budge on the issue of company shares. As for profit again. You've only laid the groundwork, nothing else. I've provided not only a framework to expand, but a complete development plan which is a multi-trillion dollar project, and I've spent nearly a trillion cataloging nearly every Pokémon in existence including legendary Pokémon the world has not heard of in millenia, not to mention the billions or even trillions I'll spend behind your and your family."
"Honestly, you have not matched my sincerity in the slightest. As such my final offer is 5% profit, no shares, funding of all Professor Oak's grandchildren - though the Morita Corporation reserves the right to audit this funding to ensure its being used for its intended purpose -, credit of discovery for the nearly 1000 additional pokémon - albeit we'll be added a co-discoverer as a company -, and as a final concession I'll throw in the funding clause to be extended for your future great grandchildren within the duration of the one hundred years of the contract."
The trio paused and muttered amongst each other before Professor Oak sighed heavily and said, "Very well, you drive a hard bargain Mr. Morita. We agree."
Soutarou smiled and said, "A pleasure doing business with you Professor Oak. The contract is already ready."
The trio choked on air hearing that and looked over at the Morita Legal Team, which already had the contract ready for review. Professor Oak looked over the Legal Team and then at Soutarou and said, "So we've just agreed to predetermined terms?"
Soutarou shook his head and said, "No, I'm a psychic. I communicated with my team in advance what my bottomline was and they had a contract prepared just the terms needed to be filled in along with clauses. I just told them what the bottom line was and worked towards it."
Silence filled the room and Oak just chuckled and said, "I've been had. Well at least tell me this much, did I reach your bottom line?"
Soutarou nodded and said, "Technically yes, the funding aspect was originally just for you, but I extended it to your family as a concession. Which is why I wasn't willing to offer any stock shares. If you give up the funding I'm willing to give 1.9% stock shares. As for profit… I honestly could have gone up to 6.5%. But again the funding you're taking is a lot. So everything balances out."
Professor Oak chuckled and said, "So the stock majority is that important?"
Soutarou said, "Like I said, I dislike bureaucracy. Less interference from the investors means I can make better decisions. Like this one, for example. So yes. Do keep in mind we will audit the funding and there'll be a clause to block funding if we notice that it's being used for miscellaneous items without just cause."
Professor Oak nodded and the two figured out the details quite quickly and left the lawyers to do their magic.
The pair walked out and Soutarou commented, "Business is boomin'!"
Professor Oak just shook his head and smiled while saying, "You're a lot like my old friend."
Soutarou turned to face Oak and said, "Do you mind telling me his story?"
Oak paused and stared off blankly…
Soutarou turned awkward and said, "Ah I guess I touched a sore spot. I apologize, no need to share-"
Oak quickly jolted out of his thoughts and said, "No, no, no problem at all, just reminiscing. I feel older everyday…"
Soutarou politely said, "I personally think you still have another fifty years in you, Professor."
Oak chuckled before taking a deep breath and then sighing and said, "Well.. where do I begin…? He looked almost exactly like you, golden eyes, black hair, tall, and most importantly also a psychic named Soutarou. Albeit he was Soutarou Summers, not Soutarou Morita."
"Similar to the Morita Family, The Summers family used to be an extremely rich family… though now that wealth has been divided between several people… Soutarou Summers was my junior by about twenty years, but we both rose to prominence around the same time, just when even the concept of a unified Pokémon League was still in its infancy. In fact Kalos still had a monarchy at that time."
"In my opinion the entire world was a much more chaotic place… and amongst my generation or rather the generation after me was the brightest star of them all, Soutarou Summers. A psychic, who could use aura like the aura guardians of old, and was even blessed with the power of Viridian. And he was without a doubt the single strongest Pokémon trainer to ever live."
"Not to mention he had strength that would put a Machamp to shame… Did you know he once picked up a Lavitar with two fingers by just pinching it by the scruff of his neck? He was something truly otherworldly… Unfortunately for us those of my era just as Soutarou began to reach his peak… catastrophe struck at the worst moment… Somehow Yveltal, an Alien Pokémon by the name of De-"
Soutarou finished and said, "Deoxys."
Professor Oak's eyes widened, but nodded and continued, "Yes Deoxys or rather a pair of them, Yveltal the destruction Pokémon, and the most horrifying of them all… Necrozma struck… Back then communication between regions was limited, but still existent… and in a last minute effort against these pokemon who schemed to destroy the overworld, absorb the planet's energy, and Necrozma who wished to reclaim the light of the universe, a task force was formed."
"Myself, Drake, Alder, Drasna, Lusamine, Wicke, Oliva, Helena The Hex Maniac, Malva, Geeta, Melony, Glacia, an independent trainer by the name of Honey, Pryce, Larry, Nanu, Peony, and Mustard."
"Alongside Soutarou Summer's Diancie, Marshadow, Darkrai, Greninja, Charizard, and a temporary addition of a legendary named Zygarde to his team alongside another named Xerneas. We all moved with haste to save a legendary pokemon by the name Lunala from the grasps of Necrozma. As expected Xerneas engaged Yveltal without hesitation, but what we didn't expect was the horror we would be met with that day… it was an event that threatened not only Alola, not only the entire planet, but the entire universe, perhaps even ones beyond our own…"
