Huang Shi started to focus as he felt the power of the calamity lightning within his body. First, he analyzed the name of the energy itself; he knew names held power and the universe would not just randomly give names to energies that were not related to itself, so he knew it would hold some sort of clue.
Calamity Lightning Sunfyre. From the name itself, we can guess that Calamity Lightning is a different type of Sunfyre energy compared to my golden flames. My golden flames have the innate ability of being able to burn spiritual energy and vitality upon contact.
What does Calamity Lightning do?
Huang Shi started to think, his thoughts moving a thousand times per second as memories of how he got his calamity lightning in the first place started to appear inside of his mind.
Lightning. Lightning is a natural phenomenon, a force of nature. In my previous life, from what I remember, lightning forms due to a sudden release and buildup of electrical charges in the atmosphere, obviously within thunderstorms.
However, I don't think that's the most important thing. Just like how "suns" function differently in this world, able to release different types of "Sunfyre," lightning is most likely related to punishment—more likely divine punishment.
RUMBLE!
The moment Huang Shi had this thought inside of his head, the calamity lightning that had been surrounding his body started to become even more violent as cracks had even started to appear around him.
Inside his sea of consciousness, his second sun—now saturated with the crimson energy—began to pulse with a scintillating, blinding light. It hummed with a deep resonance, vibrating like a dragon of the abyss that was just beginning to stir from an eternal slumber, ready to tear through the heavens.
Bai Xinyue, who had thus far been slowly gathering the lightning spirit crystals inside of her spatial ring, once again turned her attention back towards Huang Shi as she squinted her eyes.
What kind of cultivation technique is this guy using? Why does it seem so powerful?
Bai Xinyue already had her doubts about the nature of Huang Shi's powerful abilities. She didn't know why, but every time she stared at Huang Shi—especially at the crimson lightning surrounding his body—even she felt a bit of a threat.
Despite her doubts, she knew that it was rude to ask questions. If Huang Shi didn't tell her about it, then it must be something important to him, and it was something she could understand; after all, he was not the only one that had secrets.
WHOOSH!
Bai Xinyue waved her hand as a powerful silvery-white light lit up the stone cavern and surrounded Huang Shi's body, making sure that the crimson light from Huang Shi's breakthrough wouldn't seep out of the cave and out into the open.
She didn't want other people getting curious about the situation and thinking there was some sort of natural treasure in the cave.
Huang Shi felt that he was just at the cusp of his enlightenment, just a bit more and he would finally grasp a hint of what the nature of his lightning actually is.
Lightning from the heavens is known as divine punishment, but my lightning is not from the heavens. It is from myself. It is born from my blood as a wielder of the Nine Primordial Sunfyre Physique.
Golden Flames are a type of Sunfyre, and my crimson lightning is also a type of Sunfyre. But my crimson lightning does not have the aspect of punishment; it has the aspect of calamity—of total destruction. It can destroy anything in its path. Anything that does not conform to my will shall be met with calamity, with destruction, and with a despair tinged in crimson!
BOOM!!
A massive amount of spiritual energy suddenly warped the entire stone cavern as a powerful, violent suction force appeared, centered entirely around Huang Shi.
The air itself seemed to distort and scream as it was dragged into the vacuum of his presence, creating a visible vortex of spiritual energy that spiraled toward him like a ravenous storm.
Bai Xinyue had long stopped whatever task she was doing and was instead completely focused on Huang Shi. She waved her hand again, reinforcing the silvery-white light that had enveloped not only him but now the entire stone cavern.
In fact, if you looked closely, you would see something very strange about that silvery-white light. It seemed to contain the secrets of the universe, as if it held the power to uplift people or send them into agony. It was a contradiction—a power that held both creation and destruction within it, of life and death, of fate and free will.
It was a power born from the Gr—
BOOM!
A powerful burst of lightning suddenly slammed into the mountain from the outside. It didn't come from within the cave, but from the heavens above. It slammed into the peak once, twice, three times—before long, Bai Xinyue had lost count.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The stone cavern started to tremble as bits of rock and debris fell from the ceiling. Huang Shi wasn't in any danger of being hit; before a single stone could touch a hair on his body, it was destroyed by his crimson lightning.
Bai Xinyue, on the other hand, was not as relaxed. Her face now held a terrible grimace. For the first time in her life, she was experiencing something a person with her unique physique should never have to face.
"Divine Punishment?!"
BOOM!
Another powerful burst of lightning smashed into the mountain, sending even more rocks falling from the ceiling. It was both lucky and unlucky that they were at the very bottom of the cavern.
It was lucky because the lightning had to destroy the entire mountain to reach them, but unlucky because if the mountain took enough damage, it would bury them both alive.
"DAMN IT, HUANG SHI!! WHAT KIND OF CULTIVATION ARE YOU DOING?!"
