Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Side Job

The interstate near California is easily the busiest highway in the whole country.

Even the bikers couldn't U-turn through that traffic to get back to the ramp and keep chasing.

The weird late-night drag race ended just like that.

"All right, we're safe."

Hunter took a twenty-kilometre detour to drop Mia at her place.

He thanked his luck he'd filled the bike that afternoon on the way home.

Otherwise, never mind getting Mia home—during that freeway blast his old bike might not have lasted at all.

Mia had known they were safe for a while, but she still hadn't lifted her head from Hunter's back.

The adrenaline-charged chase had left Hunter buzzing.

Raised by Dominic, Mia had picked up solid Driving Skills herself.

Until today she'd only played with cars.

Riding with Hunter let her taste speed and passion on two wheels for the first time.

Even after he told her they'd arrived, it took her a moment to come down from the high.

"Thanks."

She swung off the bike, pulled off the helmet and handed it back.

"Pretty slick riding."

Mia smiled; the moment he took the helmet, the mixed-race beauty stepped in, rose on tiptoe and brushed a light kiss on his cheek.

"Thanks for the ride home."

"That was one wild trip!"

"Hmm?"

Hunter didn't expect to be ambushed and couldn't help but be stunned for a moment.

When he looked at Mia again, he saw a faint blush on the mixed-race beauty's cheeks.

Then, she glanced at Hunter somewhat shyly.

And walked toward an apartment building not far away.

"I should go back. Remember to help me fix the car tomorrow and drive it to the Repair shop."

Watching Mia walk home with her back to him, waving her hand.

Hunter reached out and gently touched the cheek that had been kissed for a while.

The corners of his mouth also curled into a slight arc.

"What a passionate girl!"

Hunter didn't expect this girl to be so proactive and enthusiastic.

However, a sexy and charming mixed-race beauty.

Although she hadn't been in contact with him for long, she was very proactive and seemed to have a significant amount of goodwill toward him.

Faced with such a girl, how could one not find her lovable?

Hunter was no exception; he felt like he was starting to like this mixed-race beauty.

"Brother Brian, it looks like your future wife is gone."

After the brief contact over the past few days, Hunter felt that Mia was truly a charming beauty; at least, he had quite a good impression of her!

Originally, he was still considering whether or not to flirt with this mixed-race beauty!

As for now, hadn't he seen how proactive the girl was!

Hunter felt that if he remained indifferent, he would have truly wasted his transmigration!

Thinking of this, he smiled and waved back at Mia, whose figure was already out of sight!

Then he turned around, restarted the motorcycle, and rushed home.

The next day, Hunter woke up early.

He was out of money, so he naturally had to go to the Repair shop honestly to earn some.

After he checked Mia's car in the morning.

As Hunter expected, the battery connection was loose; he tightened it again, and it was fixed.

However, he was in no hurry to drive the car to the Repair shop.

Just kidding!

Hunter still wanted to create opportunities for Mia to come and see him proactively.

If he really delivered the car, how would they meet in the future?

Was Hunter supposed to take the initiative to go to her door and see Mia?

Did he really think that just because Dominic allowed Vince to pursue his sister.

He would just sit by and watch others approach Mia?

Besides, Hunter's identity in this life was just an ordinary worker at a Repair shop.

Returning to the Repair shop again after a few days.

Except for the person in charge, a somewhat fat white uncle who took the initiative to ask Hunter about the situation, no one else paid him any attention.

The fat uncle's name was Lewis Parker, and everyone usually called him Old Parker.

Old Parker was about fifty years old; it was said that in his early years, he had been involved in the underground racing circle and was a somewhat famous racer.

But later, after a car accident.

He retired from the racing circle and used the money he earned in his early years to open a Repair shop.

Later, for some unknown reason, Dominic took a stake in this Repair shop.

Usually, he and his subordinates' cars would be sent here for Repair and maintenance.

The scale of the Repair shop wasn't large; including Old Parker and Hunter.

There were less than twenty employees in total, three of whom, like his predecessor, were apprentices recruited less than half a year ago.

After all, the Repair shop wasn't big, and the pay wasn't high.

However, the technical content of car Repair wasn't that high; as long as most people were willing to learn, they could usually solve most problems vehicles encountered within a month or two.

His predecessor was like this, having only worked at the Repair shop for over four months.

Basically, his predecessor could solve some of the problems vehicles encountered.

And when encountering problems that couldn't be solved, he could ask others for help.

Because the threshold was not high, after working here for a period and gaining skills and experience.

Workers at the Repair shop would usually seek other opportunities, especially the frequency of apprentice turnover, which was quite high.

Hunter was the only asian in the Repair shop; because he was the youngest, he didn't have any friends here before.

Plus, everyone might be wary of him for offending Vince, fearing they would be implicated.

Therefore, when Hunter returned after resting for five days, he quickly discovered that he seemed to be getting pushed out.

Not only did the workers who used to ignore his predecessor ignore him even more.

Along with that, Hunter also found that a lot of work was being thrown at him.

As for those Repair-related tasks, he didn't refuse any of them.

Because it could increase his Repair skill experience points!

But as for other chores, Hunter didn't even bother to pay attention to them.

Fortunately, Old Parker was a decent person; after discovering the problem, he quickly reprimanded a few restless workers.

Seeing that Hunter was very serious about the Repair, he didn't say much more.

As for that fellow Vince, he didn't come to the Repair shop to cause trouble again.

Along with him, Mia didn't come either.

He just didn't know if she had been grounded by Dominic for returning too late the night before.

And Mia's disappearance lasted for a full four days.

On this day, after finishing a day's work, he was just about to pack up his tools and prepare to leave.

Suddenly, Old Parker called out to Hunter.

"Hunter, wait a moment."

"There's a side job in a bit, want to take it?"
