Old Parker was quite efficient this time. By evening, Hunter received the thirty thousand us dollars he had promised as compensation.
Along with it, the ten thousand us dollar final payment for the car modification from Charlie's side was also transferred.
After wandering around outside for the afternoon, Hunter was in a fairly good mood.
He got a new phone and, while he was at it, set up a new number for himself.
Immediately after, he bought a laptop with decent specs.
All together, these only cost a bit over two thousand us dollars.
Of course, Hunter didn't only do these things in the afternoon.
He wasn't planning on replacing his predecessor's vintage motorcycle for the time being.
Earlier, while at the Repair shop...
...taking advantage of everyone getting off work, Hunter had borrowed the Repair shop's tools to give the motorcycle a thorough sandblasting and rust removal.
Along the way, he also found some inexpensive spare parts and installed them on the vintage motorcycle.
However, there were a few spots on the motorcycle that required brand-new parts.
Before, Hunter hadn't been in a hurry to replace them because he didn't have the money.
This time, he simply went to a store specializing in car and motorcycle parts, intending to get the replacements.
Not bad; there was a fairly large parts store near the Repair shop.
"Welcome!"
Just as Hunter walked in, someone greeted him.
He nodded with a smile and asked a white old man standing by the cash register, who seemed to be the manager, "Hello, where are the motorcycle parts located?"
"Over there!"
The old man pointed in a direction. Their store mainly dealt in car parts.
There were far fewer motorcycle parts, so they were all in the corner.
Fearing Hunter wouldn't find it, the white old man quickly called out, "Brian, take the customer to Section B4!"
Following his call, a well-dressed young white man quickly walked over.
"Got it, Manager!"
Hunter instinctively looked at the white youth, and his expression changed slightly.
That fairly handsome face allowed him to recognize him immediately.
This guy was Brian O'Conner, an FBI agent.
As an FBI agent, Brian was now appearing in a parts store.
It looked like he was working here.
Hunter quickly realized that the FBI must have started investigating the dozen or so highway robberies that had occurred consecutively in California.
In the past, Dominic and his crew had been repeatedly hijacking trucks on the highway carrying expensive electronic equipment like DVDs, computers, and cell phones.
Moreover, they only ever knocked the truck drivers unconscious, thus leaving behind many witnesses.
The FBI was already skilled at gathering intelligence, so Hunter wasn't surprised at all that they eventually locked onto Dominic and his team.
On the contrary, the California Police had been investigating for several years.
Up until now, they hadn't found Dominic and the others.
That was what Hunter found most surprising and unbelievable.
"Hello, sir. Please follow me!"
Brian noticed that the young Chinese customer in front of him seemed to be sizing him up.
He didn't think much of it and greeted him with a smile.
Hunter hurriedly regained his composure. Knowing the other was an FBI agent, he was afraid the man might find something suspicious about him.
So he also nodded to Brian with a smile and asked as if casually, "New here?"
"I don't think I've seen you before."
Brian was indeed new, and he hadn't even opened his mouth to speak yet...
...when the white old man who seemed to be the manager spoke up first to explain, "Brian is a newcomer who just arrived the day before yesterday, but he's worked in this industry before."
"If you have any questions, you can ask him."
Hunter looked at the white old man, nodded, and said no more.
Brian then made a welcoming gesture again and led Hunter to the motorcycle parts area.
For the rest of the time, he didn't interact much with Brian.
He bought several cans of spray paint, intending to repaint the pattern on the vintage motorcycle left by his predecessor.
Hunter also purchased a brand-new, more powerful engine and took the opportunity to replace several parts that were constantly malfunctioning.
In an instant, he spent over five thousand us dollars, which was almost enough to buy a cheap new motorcycle.
However, Hunter knew that this money was definitely well spent.
Because the motorcycle modified by his hands would have performance definitely no less than many high-performance street bikes; it would be enough for now.
After paying, Hunter walked out the door carrying a pile of items himself.
Looking at his vintage motorcycle waiting for modification, he now realized it was time to have a vehicle.
Otherwise, he couldn't just store things directly into his private space in front of people.
Therefore, it was still somewhat troublesome.
In the end, Hunter continued carrying the items.
He walked all the way away from the parts store that had surveillance cameras, found a deserted alley, and stuffed everything into his private space.
Hunter then immediately doubled back, hopped on his motorcycle, and left.
It was too late to look for a new place to live today, so he prepared to stay at a motel for the night.
America doesn't have its own cuisine; besides various fast-food joints everywhere, there are only dazzling arrays of canned goods and semi-finished products in supermarkets.
Out of curiosity before, Hunter had bought a bunch of random canned goods.
Half were pickled vegetables, and the other half were various fast-food meats.
However, the motel clearly wouldn't let him cook personally, so for dinner, Hunter had a hearty meal of delicious Turkish Kebab at a nearby shop.
After eating, he rode his motorcycle around the neighborhood for a while.
Eventually, he chose a motel that looked like it had a decent environment and checked in.
After coming out from a shower and drying himself off, Hunter put on a pair of boxers.
Then, after a thought, he pulled out his phone and took the initiative to call Mia.
The call was connected shortly after.
Mia's voice then came through: "Hello, Hunter, where are you now?"
Hunter had seen Brian today and was worried the kid would take the chance to hit on Mia.
So he made the call, intending to deepen his bond with her.
Just as he was about to speak, Hunter suddenly heard a distinctly different sound of breathing.
Startled at first, he quickly realized what was happening.
The phone should be on speaker mode right now; Mia had someone else beside her.
With just a bit of analysis, Hunter immediately guessed the identity of the person next to her.
"It should be Dominic!"
With a quick turn of his mind, Hunter soon had an idea.
So he replied warmly, "I'm still looking for a new place. I'll contact you once it's settled."
"By the way, Mia, there's something I need to tell you."
"Please tell your brother for me that someone seems to have their eye on him."
As soon as he said this, Hunter keenly felt it.
On the other end of the line, the suppressed breathing suddenly became a bit heavier..
