As the sun shone against the buildings inside the city of Aonia, down the streets of Avory came a little child who seemed to be getting chased by men.
The little child ran fast while holding a whole piece of bread.
"YOU LITTLE BRAT! COME HERE AND GIVE THAT BREAD BACK TO ME!" One of the men shouted. "Nu uh! Come and catch me first!" The little child said while giggling.
FIRST POV: Ren
I came hiding near the small crate, which the men who came to chase me passed. 'Hehe, finally got something good to eat!' I thought to myself while smiling.
I was about to take my first bite of delicious joy, but suddenly. "Ren Ren, I found you~!" Someone whispered beside me. I jumped.
"Zeni, at least give me a warning that you're here!" I scolded her.
"Well, i just wanted to ask if you could give me some bread" She smiled at me, which I couldn't help but sigh.
"Fine, but you owe me some." I said while she raised her hands up in the air.
I broke the bread in half and gave her the other piece. We ate in silence after that.
A few hours later~
After the events that had happened, me and Zeni went back to the orphanage since it was already midnight.
The caretaker doesn't really care whether we run away or not, it isn't her problem.
We climbed up the window of our room using a rope which we always use when we get back late.
After we got inside, Zeni closed the windows and collapsed on our shared bed.
"Zeni, aren't you going to take a shower? We were running around all day and we're drenched with sweat" I said to her, heading to the bathroom.
"I'm too sleepy, enjoy your bath!" She yelled and drifted off to sleep. I sweatdrop at her antics.
'You could've at least changed your clothes.' I thought to myself, sighing.
After I took a bath, I went to bed beside her and hugged her close to me.
'Zeni's the only one who's been nice to me ever since I came to this orphanage, I will always keep her safe' I thought to myself before falling asleep.
I woke up not seeing Zeni in sight, 'Maybe she just went downstairs early and let me sleep in' I assured myself.
A couple of minutes later, I got bored laying down and decided to find Zeni downstairs.
When I was about to enter the main room I overheard a conversation between someone and the caretaker.
"I'm sorry to inform you but one of the children of your orphanage encountered the different earlier and unfortunately got killed. The executioners showed up too late to save the child" The unknown person said, proceeding to show the picture of the child that died.
To my horror, I saw Zeni in the photo. To that day, I regret that I overslept.
