Selene's POV
The envelope felt heavier than it should have.
I stood frozen in the foyer, the white paper trembling between my fingers. The server had already disappeared around the corner of the driveway, his footsteps fading into the morning hum of the city below the manor. Carlos was standing beside me with one hand hovering near my elbow as if he wanted to steady me but wasn't sure I'd allow it.
I tore the flap open anyway.
The papers inside were thick just like the words it contained
