Chapter 26 - Don’t Walk Away

"Adrien!"

Zane's voice tore through the night.

The restaurant doors slammed behind him as he rushed out into the cool air, his breath uneven, heart pounding violently in his chest.

Adrien was already halfway to the car.

Walking fast.

Too fast.

Like he didn't want to be followed.

"Adrien—wait!"

No response.

Adrien reached the car and pulled the door open.

Before he could get in—

Bang.

Zane slammed it shut.

Hard.

Adrien froze.

For a split second.

Then he turned slowly.

Zane was standing right in front of him, chest rising and falling quickly, eyes wide with panic.

He grabbed Adrien's arm without thinking.

"Listen to me."

Adrien looked down at his hand.

Then back at his face.

Cold.

"What?"

Zane swallowed.

"I'm sorry."

Adrien's expression didn't change.

"For what?"

Zane hesitated.

"I don't know what Dante showed you but—"

Adrien snapped.

"What he showed me?"

His voice was sharp.

Louder than Zane had ever heard it.

"What he showed me?!"

Zane flinched slightly.

Adrien pulled his arm free.

"Why do I even care?" Adrien continued, voice rising. "There's nothing between us, right? So why should I care what you do?"

Zane stared at him.

The words hit harder than anything else.

Nothing between us.

Then why did it feel like everything?

"Adrien—"

"Why am I even asking for an explanation?" Adrien went on, frustration slipping through his voice. "You can do whatever you want."

But his hands were clenched at his sides.

His jaw tight.

His eyes… weren't calm at all.

Zane felt it.

The contradiction.

And it scared him.

Because if Adrien truly didn't care—

He wouldn't be this angry.

Zane's chest tightened painfully.

"I didn't—"

His voice broke slightly.

"I didn't kiss him."

Adrien scoffed.

"I saw the picture."

"You saw half a second of something you don't understand!"

Adrien stepped closer.

"Then explain it."

Zane froze.

The pressure hit him all at once.

Fear.

Anger.

Desperation.

He couldn't lose this.

Not now.

Not after everything.

Before Adrien could react—

Zane dropped to his knees.

Right there.

In the middle of the parking lot.

Adrien's eyes widened.

"Zane—what are you doing?"

"I'm sorry."

His voice was raw.

"I'm really sorry."

Adrien stood frozen.

Zane's hands clenched into fists at his sides.

"I didn't do anything," he said quickly. "That night—I was drunk. He came up to me. He tried to kiss me."

Adrien's brows furrowed slightly.

"I pushed him away," Zane continued, voice shaking. "I didn't want it."

The night air felt heavy around them.

"That was before I even met you," Zane added quietly.

Silence.

Adrien crossed his arms slowly.

His expression unreadable.

But something inside him shifted.

The tight knot in his chest loosened slightly.

Relief.

He didn't want to admit it.

But it was there.

"So you expect me to just believe you?" Adrien asked.

Zane looked up at him.

"I'm telling the truth."

Adrien studied his face.

There was no hesitation.

No doubt.

Just… fear.

Real fear.

Of losing him.

Adrien exhaled slowly.

Then he turned toward the car.

"You," he said to the bodyguard, "leave."

The man hesitated.

"Sir—"

"I said leave."

After a moment, the bodyguard nodded and stepped away, giving them distance.

Adrien looked back at Zane.

"Give me your phone."

Zane didn't even question it.

He immediately pulled it out and handed it over.

Adrien unlocked it and started scrolling.

Messages.

Photos.

Contacts.

Nothing.

No recent messages.

No hidden chats.

No sign of Ethan.

Zane just stayed on his knees, watching him.

Waiting.

Adrien finally lowered the phone.

He felt… lighter.

Which annoyed him.

Why did this matter so much?

He handed the phone back.

Then rolled his eyes.

"Stand up."

Zane didn't move.

Instead—

A slow smirk appeared on his lips.

Adrien narrowed his eyes.

"What?"

Zane tilted his head slightly.

"Did you like it?"

Adrien blinked.

"What?"

"The blowjob."

Adrien's face turned red instantly.

"Zane—"

"You didn't answer me."

Adrien looked away.

Then… nodded.

Just slightly.

Zane's smirk widened.

Before Adrien could react—

Zane leaned forward.

Too bold.

Too reckless.

Adrien immediately grabbed his shoulder and pulled him back.

"Are you insane?"

Zane blinked.

"We're outside."

Zane glanced around.

Only then realizing where they were.

Adrien opened the car door again.

"Get in."

Zane didn't argue.

They both got into the backseat.

The door closed.

The world outside disappeared.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.

Adrien looked at him.

Zane looked back.

And then—

Zane snapped.

He leaned forward suddenly and kissed him.

Deep.

Rough.

Like he had been holding it in for too long.

Adrien's breath hitched.

Zane's hands grabbed his waist, pulling him closer—

Until Adrien ended up in his lap.

Zane was shaking.

His hands weren't steady.

His breathing uneven.

He pulled back just enough to look at him.

His face was flushed deep red.

"I thought you were going to leave," Zane whispered.

Adrien stared at him.

Then slowly—

His hands moved.

Gripping Zane's shirt.

Holding him there.

"I almost did."

Zane swallowed.

"Don't."

Adrien didn't answer.

But he didn't move away either.

And for Zane—

That was enough.
