Chapter 19 - Chapter -19 The Devil Walks in

The warehouse doors didn't just open.

They exploded.

Metal screamed as it flew across the room, crashing into concrete and scattering sparks into the smoky air like dying stars. The blast knocked men off their feet, sent bullets ricocheting, and forced even Selene to stumble backward for balance.

Rachel froze.

Not because she was afraid.

But because something in her bones told her this wasn't part of Selene's plan.

This wasn't part of Raziel's plan either.

This was… something worse.

The smoke rolled in thick, curling like a living thing. The light from the fire behind them made the shadows dance across the walls, and for a moment, the entire warehouse looked like the gates of hell had been opened.

Then he stepped inside.

Slow.

Calm.

Elegant.

As if the chaos around him was nothing but background noise.

He wore a long black coat that brushed against the floor. His hair was dark and neatly combed back. His face was sharp, refined, almost handsome if not for the deadness in his eyes.

Eyes that held no emotion.

Only hunger.

Only calculation.

Only power.

Behind him, six armed men followed. Not mercenaries.

Not Selene's hired dogs.

These men moved like trained soldiers. Their weapons were polished, their stance disciplined. And the symbol on their chest made Rachel's heart skip.

A black serpent wrapped around a silver crown.

Raziel's grip tightened on his gun.

Mikhail's face hardened.

Ethan's eyes narrowed.

Kai muttered something under his breath that sounded like a curse.

Rachel didn't know why… but she felt it.

This man wasn't just dangerous.

He was important.

The stranger's gaze swept the warehouse, taking in the bodies, the blood, the shattered walls… and finally landed on Rachel.

He smiled.

Not warm.

Not friendly.

The kind of smile a predator gives a wounded animal.

"Well," he said, his voice smooth like poison, "this is… dramatic."

Selene's expression shifted instantly.

Her lips curled into something that almost looked like respect.

"Adrian," she said.

Rachel's stomach dropped.

Adrian.

The name hit the air like a bullet.

Raziel's voice came out low, lethal.

"Adrian Moretti."

Rachel's world tilted.

Moretti?

Her breath caught in her throat.

She turned her head sharply to Raziel, eyes wide.

"You said my father was Alessandro Moretti…" she whispered.

Raziel didn't look at her.

His eyes stayed locked on Adrian.

"That's right," Raziel said.

Adrian's smile widened, amused.

"I'm flattered you remember my name, Raziel."

Rachel's heart started pounding violently.

The stranger took a step forward.

And every man in the warehouse mercenary, guard, even Selene's own soldiers instinctively moved out of his way.

As if he owned the air they breathed.

Adrian stopped only a few feet away from Rachel and Raziel.

Then he looked at Rachel again.

And the smile vanished.

His eyes became cold.

Sharp.

Personal.

"So…" he murmured, voice dropping. "This is her."

Rachel swallowed.

Something inside her screamed to step back, but she forced herself to stand tall, even with blood on her clothes and smoke in her lungs.

She lifted her chin.

"I'm Rachel Moretti," she said boldly.

Adrian stared at her like she was a piece of property.

Then he chuckled.

"No," he corrected softly. "You're my niece."

Rachel's entire body stiffened.

The warehouse suddenly felt too small.

Too hot.

Too loud.

Her voice cracked slightly.

"Niece?"

Raziel's jaw tightened so hard it looked like his teeth might shatter.

Adrian's eyes flicked to Raziel.

"You didn't tell her?" he asked with mock disappointment. "What a shame."

Selene laughed from behind them, her silver hair glowing under the firelight.

"Oh, Raziel," she purred. "You really thought you could hide bloodlines forever?"

Rachel turned to Selene, rage flaring.

"You know him?"

Selene smiled like a queen enjoying her favorite entertainment.

"I know everyone who matters."

Adrian's gaze swept back to Selene.

"You've made a mess," he said calmly. "But you've also been… useful."

Selene's smile stiffened for a second.

Rachel noticed.

That meant something.

Even Selene feared him.

Rachel's heartbeat slowed, not because she was calm, but because her instincts were screaming.

This man wasn't here to save her.

He wasn't here to help Selene.

He was here for one reason.

To claim what he believed belonged to him.

Adrian stepped closer, now only inches away from Rachel.

His voice softened.

"Do you know what your father did before he died?" Adrian asked.

Rachel's throat went dry.

Raziel's voice snapped like a whip.

"Don't."

Adrian ignored him.

"He stole from me," Adrian continued. "He stole my power. He stole my empire. He stole the crown that was meant to be mine."

Rachel's hands clenched into fists.

"That's not true."

Adrian's eyes darkened slightly.

"Oh, sweetheart…" he said. "In this family, truth is not what you believe. It's what you can survive."

Rachel felt Raziel move, his gun lifting slightly.

Adrian didn't even flinch.

He looked at Raziel like Raziel was nothing but a loyal dog.

"Put it down," Adrian said.

Raziel didn't.

Adrian's men immediately raised their weapons.

The tension in the air was suffocating.

Mikhail stepped forward, knife in hand.

Ethan and Kai shifted into combat stance.

Selene watched the entire thing like she was enjoying a private show.

Rachel's mind spun.

She didn't know who Adrian was truly.

But one thing was clear:

He had power greater than Selene.

And maybe… greater than Raziel.

Adrian's gaze returned to Rachel, and suddenly his expression softened into something almost gentle.

Almost.

"You're brave," he said. "Alessandro's blood. I can see it."

Rachel's voice trembled with fury.

"If you're my uncle… why are you here now?"

Adrian smiled.

"Because your father is dead," he said simply. "And now, the empire needs a ruler."

Rachel's stomach twisted.

"And you think that's you?"

Adrian tilted his head, as if she'd asked something adorable.

"No," he said softly. "I think it's me… and you."

Rachel's eyes widened.

He leaned closer.

"You're the key, Rachel," he whispered. "Your father hid everything behind you. Accounts. codes. vaults. properties. weapons. alliances."

Rachel's breath hitched.

Selene's voice came, silky and cruel.

"She's the lock."

Adrian's eyes glinted.

"And I am the man who will force it open."

Rachel's blood ran cold.

Raziel snapped.

"You won't touch her."

Adrian's head turned slowly.

The air seemed to change.

Adrian's smile disappeared.

The warmth drained from his face.

Now, he looked like death.

"Raziel," Adrian said quietly. "You are a loyal soldier. But soldiers don't get to choose their king."

Raziel stepped forward, gun raised.

"I chose her."

Adrian stared at him for a long moment.

Then he nodded once.

As if Raziel had just signed his own death sentence.

"How romantic," Adrian said.

Then he raised his hand.

And one of his men threw something to the ground.

A small metallic object.

Rachel barely had time to react.

It hit the floor.

And beeped.

Raziel's eyes widened.

"Grenade!"

The blast didn't kill them.

It wasn't designed to.

It was smoke, thick black gas, flooding the room in seconds.

Rachel coughed violently, her eyes burning.

Raziel grabbed her waist, pulling her close.

"Don't breathe it!" he growled.

But it was too late.

Rachel's vision blurred.

Her body became heavy.

Her limbs started failing her.

She tried to fight it.

She tried to stay awake.

But her knees buckled.

She heard Raziel's voice shouting her name.

"Rachel! Rachel!"

She felt his hands shaking her, holding her, refusing to let go.

But the drug was stronger than her will.

The last thing she saw was Adrian's face, calm in the smoke.

And his voice…

soft and cruel…

"You belong to the Moretti bloodline."

Then darkness swallowed her.

When Rachel opened her eyes…

She wasn't in the warehouse.

She wasn't in the mansion.

She wasn't even in the city.

She was in a luxurious room gold walls, velvet curtains, expensive perfume lingering in the air.

A gilded cage.

Her wrists were free.

But the door was locked.

Rachel stumbled to the window.

Outside was a massive estate.

Armed guards patrolled like wolves.

And at the gate…

was the same black serpent symbol.

Rachel's heart dropped into her stomach.

She was in Adrian Moretti's territory.

The door opened.

Adrian walked in calmly, holding a glass of whiskey like this was a casual meeting.

Rachel turned on him instantly.

"You kidnapped me!"

Adrian smiled.

"No," he corrected. "I rescued you."

Rachel's eyes burned with hatred.

"You're insane."

Adrian walked closer.

"I'm necessary," he said.

Rachel's voice trembled.

"Raziel will come."

Adrian's smile grew wider.

"Of course he will," he said. "That's the point."

Rachel froze.

Adrian stepped close enough for her to smell his cologne dark, expensive, suffocating.

Then he leaned down, whispering into her ear.

"I didn't just take you from Selene, Rachel."

He paused.

"I took you from Raziel."

Rachel's body went cold.

Adrian's voice became a low murmur, almost intimate.

"And now… the real war begins."

Rachel stepped back, shaking.

"What do you want from me?"

Adrian stared at her like a man staring at a crown.

"I want you to open your father's vault," he said softly.

Rachel swallowed.

"And if I refuse?"

Adrian's eyes turned black.

Then he smiled again.

This time, it wasn't elegant.

It was evil.

"If you refuse," he whispered, "I will send Raziel's head to you in a box."

Rachel's scream caught in her throat.

Her body trembled.

But she forced her eyes to stay strong.

Adrian tilted his head.

"Yes," he said approvingly. "That fire… that's why I need you."

Rachel's nails dug into her palms.

She hated him.

She hated Selene.

She hated this world.

But most of all…

she feared what Adrian might actually be capable of.

Adrian walked to the door, turning slightly.

"Oh, Rachel?" he said casually.

Rachel glared.

"What?"

Adrian smiled.

"I suggest you cooperate," he said. "Because I have someone else coming tomorrow."

Rachel's heart tightened.

"Who?"

Adrian's smile widened into something wicked.

"Your mother."

Rachel's blood froze.

The room spun.

"No…" she whispered.

Adrian stepped out, locking the door behind him.

Rachel stood alone, shaking violently.

Her chest heaved.

Her eyes burned.

Because if her mother was coming…

Then everything Raziel told her…

Everything she believed…

Everything she trusted…

might have been a lie.

And outside, far away in the city…

Raziel would be tearing the world apart.

But Rachel couldn't reach him.

Couldn't warn him.

Couldn't stop the storm.

All she could do was wait…

for the next nightmare to arrive.
