The carriage finally rolled to a stop in the center of the frosted cobblestone courtyard.
The moment the door opened, the old butler stepped forward, his posture impeccable like always but his expression carried a tight, nervous strain that instantly betrayed the presence inside the manor.
"Welcome back, Your Grace, Master Julian, Young Lord," the butler murmured, bowing low. He lowered his voice as the servants began to unload the luggage.
"I see the Emperor's flag. What is he doing here?" Alaric asked straight up.
"His Imperial Majesty has been here since two days ago." the butler explained. "The moment he arrived and discovered that you had left for the Holy Empire without imperial authorization... he was highly displeased. However, he decided to wait. He claims his children were desperate to see their tutor, and that he has an important matter to discuss with you."
