Chapter 171 - Chapter 171

The wind howled, a deafening roar that swallowed all other sounds as Airdramon tore through the greenish sky of Edolas.

The giant winged serpent beat its tattered wings, riding the slipstream directly behind the colossal purple lacrima crystal.

Edo-Lucy lay flat against Airdramon's blue scales, gripping the beast's spines for dear life.

"This is insane! If we fall from up here, we're dead!"

"Then don't fall," Ace said, standing perfectly balanced near the serpent's head.

The violent turbulence didn't phase him in the slightest. He kept his eyes locked on the glowing chains pulling the crystal toward the floating islands of Extalia.

Flying just a few yards away, Happy flapped his white wings furiously, carrying Natsu by the back of his vest. Wendy flew right beside them, held securely by Carla.

"We're gaining on it!" Natsu yelled over the wind, though he was dangling thousands of feet in the air without a weapon.

"Just get me close to those chains! I'll break them with my bare hands!"

"You can't break magically reinforced iron with your fists, Natsu!" Carla scolded, her breathing ragged as she struggled against the heavy updraft. "We need a real plan! The island is getting closer!"

Through the clouds ahead, the Kingdom of Extalia came into view. It was a breathtaking network of lush, floating landmasses, dotted with elegant white towers and cascading waterfalls.

But the serene beauty of the Exceed homeland was overshadowed by the impending apocalypse drifting right toward it.

On the cliffs of the floating islands, thousands of Exceeds ran in blind panic.

The shadow of the giant lacrima cast a dark, terrifying pall over their city.

"They see it," Wendy gasped, horror crossing her face. "They know it's going to crush them!"

"Incoming!" Gatomon shouted from Airdramon's back, pointing toward the horizon.

Swarming out from the lower clouds, a massive squadron of the Royal Army's aerial fleet intercepted them.

Dozens of soldiers rode atop winged, mechanical beasts called Legions. They formed a tight blockade, leveling their sparking magical rifles directly at the group.

"Rebels identified!" the squad leader barked through a megaphone. "By order of King Faust, shoot them out of the sky!"

"Wizardmon!" Ace called out, pointing toward the vanguard.

"Understood!" Wizardmon hovered up from Airdramon's back, spinning his sun-crested staff. He aimed the tip at the dense cloud cover above the fleet.

"Thunder Cloud!"

A violent storm materialized in an instant. Jagged bolts of lightning rained down, striking the metal armor of the mechanical Legions.

The mounts short-circuited, sending a dozen Royal Guards plummeting into the sky below.

"Fire at the serpent!" the remaining guards yelled, shifting their aim.

A barrage of magical blasts streaked through the air.

Ace patted Airdramon's scales. "Spinning Needle."

The giant serpent roared, opening its horned jaws. It fired a barrage of dense, hardened air spikes that tore through the sky like a gatling gun.

The physical projectiles shattered the magical blasts mid-air, piercing the wings of the remaining Legions and scattering the Royal blockade in seconds.

"We broke through!" Happy cheered, flying faster.

They reached the colossal crystal. Up close, the sheer magnitude of the lacrima was staggering. It wasn't just a crystal; it was an entire city frozen in magical stasis, pulsing with the stolen life force of Magnolia.

"The chain!" Natsu pointed to the massive, glowing iron link tethering the crystal to the palace far below.

"We have to snap it!"

Happy swung Natsu forward like a pendulum. Natsu reared his fist back and slammed it into the glowing iron chain.

A loud clang echoed, followed immediately by Natsu howling in pain.

"Oww! My hand! It's too hard!"

"I told you!" Carla yelled.

Edo-Lucy stared at the approaching island.

The gap was closing fast. "The chains don't matter right now! Look!"

Extalia was mere minutes away from impact. The Exceeds on the cliffs were frozen in fear, watching their doom approach.

"We have to stop it!" Natsu yelled. He didn't hesitate. "Happy, fly me to the front!"

Happy flew Natsu around the massive crystal, positioning them directly between the floating island and the unstoppable lacrima.

Natsu placed his bare hands against the smooth, cold surface of the crystal. He gritted his teeth, pushing back with every ounce of physical strength he had in his body.

"Push!" Natsu roared.

"You're crazy!" Happy cried, but he flapped his wings as hard as he could, adding his tiny amount of thrust to the effort.

Wendy flew up beside them. She didn't say a word. She just placed her small hands against the crystal and pushed.

Carla grunted, her wings straining against the immense weight of an entire city.

Ace stood on Airdramon's head, watching the Dragon Slayers try to stop a mountain with their bare hands.

He knew it wasn't enough.

The mass was too great, and the magical pull from the King's machinery was too strong.

He pulled his D-Tector from his coat. The device flared with a blinding, fierce light.

"Gabumon!"

The blue-striped reptile materialized in the air beside Airdramon, suspended by a pillar of swirling data.

"We need to stop that crystal, Gabumon," Ace said. "Don't hold anything back."

Gabumon nodded, his eyes fierce. "Right, Ace!"

"Warp Digivolve!" Ace commanded, swiping his hand across the scanner.

The digital storm consumed Gabumon, expanding into a massive tornado of light that illuminated the dark sky.

The sheer pressure of the evolution forced the remaining Royal Guards to shield their eyes.

When the light shattered, the golden knight stood suspended in the sky.

He was clad in majestic, shining armor, a massive wolf-shaped helmet obscuring his face. In his hands, he wielded a colossal, crescent-shaped golden halberd that hummed with devastating power.

CresGarurumon.

Edo-Lucy fell backward onto Airdramon's scales, her jaw dropping.

"What... what is that?!"

CresGarurumon didn't waste a single second. He flew forward, his golden armor gleaming. He positioned himself right next to Natsu and Wendy, placing his massive, armored gauntlet against the face of the lacrima.

"Brace yourselves!" CresGarurumon's deep, metallic voice echoed.

He dug his heels into the air, his thrusters burning bright blue as he pushed against the crystal with the physical might of a Mega-level Digimon.

The crystal groaned. The sheer kinetic force of CresGarurumon's push caused the massive lacrima to shudder.

The glowing chains tethering it to the palace pulled taut, shrieking under the conflicting pressure.

"It's slowing down!" Happy cheered, tears streaming down his face.

But the King's machinery was relentless. The chains sparked, forcefully pulling the lacrima forward. Even with CresGarurumon's immense strength, they were only delaying the inevitable.

The cliffs of Extalia were less than a hundred yards away.

"Ace!" CresGarurumon called out, the thrusters on his back whining from the strain. "The magical tether is too dense! I can't reverse the momentum while the chains are active!"

"Then we cut them," Ace said. He prepared to command CresGarurumon to strike the chains, but before he could give the order, a strange sound echoed from the surface of the crystal.

CRACK.

Natsu froze, looking at the smooth surface beneath his hands. "Did you guys hear that?"

A massive, spider-webbing fracture appeared right in the center of the giant lacrima.

"It's breaking!" Wendy panicked. "If it shatters, everyone inside will die!"

"No, look closer!" Ace shouted, his eyes narrowing.

The crack wasn't spreading randomly. It was localized.

A freezing, bitter cold suddenly radiated from the fracture, turning the purple crystal white with frost.

Then, the surface exploded outward.

Shards of crystal rained down into the sky. From the gaping hole in the lacrima, two figures leaped out into the open air.

The first was a young man without a shirt, his hands glowing with a familiar, swirling blue magic.

The second was a woman with scarlet hair, clad in gleaming silver armor, her eyes sharp and fierce.

"Gray! Erza!" Natsu screamed, his eyes lighting up with pure joy.

Gray formed a massive platform of ice in mid-air, landing on it smoothly.

Erza landed right beside him, summoning two identical broadswords to her hands in a flash of golden light.

Edo-Lucy stared in sheer disbelief. "They broke out... but how?! Earthland magic is supposed to be drained!"

Gray smirked, cracking his knuckles. "Gajeel found us inside. He used his Dragon Slayer magic to shatter our specific crystals. And Mystogan fed us some weird pills that restored our ethernano."

Erza looked at the glowing chains pulling the lacrima. "We don't have much time for reunions. Natsu, Wendy, get clear!"

Natsu grinned, letting go of the crystal. "You heard her, Happy! Fall back!"

Erza and Gray leaped off the ice platform, falling straight toward the massive, glowing iron chains.

"Ice-Make: Lance!" Gray roared, unleashing a barrage of massive, frozen spears that struck the iron link, freezing the metal and making it dangerously brittle.

Erza followed right behind the ice.

She crossed her swords, her magical energy flaring.

"Heaven's Wheel: Blossom Strike!"

She swung her blades, striking the exact spot Gray had frozen. The brittle, magically reinforced iron shattered like glass.

With a deafening SNAP, the chain broke.

The sudden release of tension caused the massive lacrima to jolt violently.

Without the King's machinery pulling it forward, CresGarurumon's push took full effect.

The Mega-level knight roared, his thrusters flaring as he shoved the colossal crystal backward, safely away from the cliffs of Extalia.

The Exceeds on the island erupted into cheers, falling to their knees in relief as the shadow of doom slowly retreated from their home.

Erza and Gray plummeted toward the ground, but Airdramon swooped in, catching them smoothly on its broad back.

Gray let out a heavy breath, sitting down next to Edo-Lucy. He took one look at her leather outfit and skull tattoo, then blinked.

"Lucy? Why do you look like you belong to a biker gang?"

Edo-Lucy just groaned, burying her face in her hands. "This is getting way too confusing."

Erza stood on the serpent's back, her swords resting at her sides.

She looked at Natsu, Wendy, and Ace, a fierce, proud smile crossing her face.

"You guys held the line," Erza said. "Good work."

"We aren't done yet," Ace said, pointing down toward the Royal Capital.

The destruction of the chain had triggered a massive response.

From the courtyard of the palace, a colossal, mechanical dragon-shaped cannon was rising into the sky, glowing with an apocalyptic amount of magical energy.

The King wasn't giving up.

Erza's smile vanished, replaced by a cold, battle-ready glare.

"Then let's finish this. Fairy Tail is taking the fight to them."
