Chapter 88 - The Call

It started quietly.

A feeling.

Not pain.

Not fear.

A pull.

— The First Movement —

In the industrial zone—

One of the fragment users stepped forward.

Slow.

Unaware.

"…Hey—where are you going?" someone asked.

No response.

Another followed.

Then another.

Juvy's eyes widened.

"…Stop."

They didn't.

Their movements were synchronized.

Unnatural.

Lina grabbed Juvy's sleeve.

"…It's getting louder…"

Juvy turned.

"…Lina?"

Lina's expression changed.

For the first time—

Uncertain.

"…I can't block it…"

— The Spread —

Across the city—

The same thing happened.

Fragment users stopped what they were doing.

Then moved.

In the same direction.

Not running.

Not rushing.

Walking.

Like sleepwalkers.

— Resistance Fails —

At the base—

Mara slammed her hand on the console.

"…It's affecting all of them!"

Eli's voice tightened.

"…Not just unstable ones…"

Mara looked at the screen.

Dozens of signals moving at once.

"…Even the stable ones…"

— Juvy Tries —

Back in the zone—

Juvy stepped in front of them.

"…Stop!"

No reaction.

She grabbed one of them.

They kept walking.

Dragging her slightly.

"…They don't even see me…"

Lina stepped forward.

Light forming weakly.

"…Wait…"

She reached out—

Touched one of them.

For a second—

They stopped.

Then—

The pull surged.

They broke free.

Lina staggered back.

"…It's too strong…"

— Maxruell —

In another district—

The same scene unfolded.

Fragment users walking past him.

Ignoring everything.

Maxruell stepped in front of one.

"…Oi."

No response.

He grabbed his collar—

Lifted him.

"…I'm talking to you."

Nothing.

The man's eyes—

Empty.

Maxruell dropped him.

"…So this is control…"

His eyes narrowed.

"…I don't like it."

— The Direction —

Juvy stood still.

Watching them leave.

"…They're all going somewhere…"

Mara's voice came through her comms.

"…We tracked the direction."

A pause.

"…It's the same for all of them."

Juvy's expression hardened.

"…Where?"

Silence.

Then—

"…Ground Zero."

— Realization —

Juvy's eyes widened.

"…Where the tear happened…"

Lina nodded slowly.

"…That's where it is…"

A pause.

"…The thing calling us."

— Final Scene —

At the center of the ruined zone—

The air twisted.

Fragments floated upward.

The Vessel stood in the middle.

Now clearer.

More complete.

Its body shifting—

Between light and shadow.

Dozens of fragments circled it.

Then—

One by one—

They entered it.

Absorbed.

Its form stabilized further.

"…yes…"

"…return…"

Above—

A wave spread outward.

Stronger.

Calling.

Commanding.

And this time—

No fragment bearer could ignore it.
