Behind them, Simon couldn't help sucking in a breath at the price the man had offered. Five times. Of course, Ewan hadn't paid much for this land, but multiply that figure by five and the sum was nothing to sneeze at. Just as he was getting worked up, he felt a light squeeze on his shoulder. He turned and found his older brother glaring at him. Simon promptly fell quiet.
Ewan, for his part, was in no hurry to answer. He looked at the silver-threaded collar of the man's tunic, then let his eyes drift to the heavy leather satchel, and pressed his lips together slightly.
In the end, he put on the same innocent smile he'd used on Old Hollis the day before and turned it on the man in front of him.
