Chapter 1 - The man on wheels

Chapter One..

CrestWood High..

Crestwood high School the most popular school in Cresten, the schools cafeteria was filled with students coming in and out getting there orders.

Unfortunately, not everyone was a good soul here, the students were rough and notorious.

Reed's wheelchair was constantly kicked aside by bullies as he tried to order.

The other students mocked him gladly. "How can you even afford anything here?." Reed sighed, feeling frustrated this was not the first time neither was it going to be the last. The clothes he wore had slowly lost there colour and beauty.

Reed bowed his head and turned his wheel chair around this was not worth it at all he would simply order food from a restaurant though that was against school rules.

"Hey coward, pick on someone your own size, you should feel ashamed of yourself..

How dare you treat him that way and cut in line." Reed turned his wheel chair around the wind blowing through his hair.

His eyes lightened, and a smile crept across his adorable face for the first time someone defended him even when he felt there was no need to.

Fiona walked up to Reed and pushed his wheel chair to the front of the line with a club in her hand. No one dared to cut in line with her standing guard, she looked like a crazy person.

Reed ordered and took his food Fiona helped him to a table.

Reed smiled at her, she was crazy but she was brave.

"It was a good thing no one challenged me for there own safety. I know how to defend myself. I would not have let him go without a broken nose.

But you, you're supposed to be a man, why would you let them trample on you like that?."

Fiona asked, Reed pondered he was not sure if she was asking him a trick question or not. Was she really asking him why he let others trample on him?.

How could a weak and disabled person, fight for himself or challenge others.

Reed frowned, he felt she was just trying to take his weakness and shove it in his face.

Fiona could not bear the silence that followed she got up and tried to leave.

Reed felt ungrateful, but he could not stop her she was too fast.

Reed heard his phone ring, it was a call from Louis his personal assistant,he could not take his call with so many people watching he left to a secret place and took the call.

"I apologize for disturbing young master but I have found a lead on your fathers death. You were right, it was not just an accident."

Reed clenched his fists, his jaws tightened.

At the background Louis still spoke but Reed was now lost in his own world in the night when everything came crashing down.

In one day he lost both parents. Louis ended the call.

Reed lost his appetite and left the cafeteria.

It was time for genetics a course Reed hated so much, he kept on repeating it year by year no matter how hard he studied.

Reed paused as he saw his saviour Fiona being surrounded.

The bullies she dared earlier were here in the field and he could not do anything to stop them.

"What happened, where did all that confidence go?. You spoke like you could defeat the entire school why don't you prove it."

The bully said and threw his bag on the floor.

The teachers were having a meeting and no one could stop them now.

Fiona groaned as her butt collided with the hard floor.

She did not have time for this.

"Stop, this is not her fault!." Reed intervened while he pushed the button on his wheel chair.

Louis sat in his car wondering if he did the right thing by informing his boss about his father's death.

He packed his car outside the school premises, the beauty of the environment and the flowers did not matter to him.

Louis saw his watch beeping, he knew Reed only used this means of communication when there was trouble in the school Louis stepped down from his car and went in.

Reed saw Louis from a distance and heaved a sigh of relief.

"Of course this is your fault, you are just trash ruining the reputation of this school and any friend of yours is an enemy to us."

The bully ignored Fiona and his gaze fell on Reed.

Each step he took towards Reed made the crowd cheer, it made Fiona's stomach churn.

Fiona lifted herself up with every muscle in her, she jumped on the bully before Louis had time to react.

Fiona used her teeth as a weapon with her eyes shut tight, Sebastian groaned in pain. The students pulled her away.

"What in the world is going on here?." A teacher yelled, they were done with the meeting.

Reed knew Fiona was in trouble now, Sebastian was her son.

"Ma'am, this .." Fiona tried to defend herself.

"To my office, this is the second time this week." Fiona gritted her teeth, if looks could kill then Sabastein would have being buried six feet below the ground.

The students scattered and went into there various classes.

Reed and Louis were the only one left outside the school gate.

"How could you just stand there and watch that girl do your job!." Reed almost yelled at him but he bit his lower lip trying to control his fuming rage.

Louis bent his head low, he knew he had let him down. He knelt down his voice shaking.

"Get up, I don't want anyone to see you kneeling before me. You will get what you deserve later."

Louis obeyed Reed and left him to his thoughts, Reed stayed for a while wondering why Fiona had defended him today.

They were not even friends yet, he definitely won't let her get in trouble.

Meanwhile Fiona sat in the principals office, she felt a lump in her throat, like a sheep before the slaughter waiting to be murdered.

"Detention!." The principal spat unapologetically.

"Just that, detention is not good enough!." The teacher pressed on, if only Fiona could just tell her how ugly she was even with that heavy makeup.

Just then the principal's phone rang.

"Oh yes sir, I do know her, really. No, no, please." The call ended.

Fiona watched her attentively wondering why she sounded so scared, she was always so authoritave.

"Im sorry I can not punish her." The principal asked Fiona to leave the office and try not to get into any more trouble.

Sabasteins mother was stunned.

Fiona left the office skipping feeling excited, she paused as soon as she saw Reed coming towards her, her mind was conflicted.

Should she ignore him and stay out of harms way or should she know his name.

"Fiona!." Fiona heard a familiar voice call her name.

She knew who it was, her step sister. The hypocrite.

Fiona turned to her with a fake smile.

"Sister, I heard what happened today. Listen it will be better if you stay away from that guy.

He's being discriminated by the entire school you don't want to loose any of your friends do you?."

Fiona understood this was a delibrate attempt to mock her, Emily knew she had no friends.

Reed watched her from a distance would it be better if he kept his distance, but that would be a choice Fiona had to make.
