Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Phoenix Vein Fragment

Bai Lingling felt so much pain on her back, she almost thought this was how painful hell felt.

She had never felt anything like this in a long time.

She really thought she was dead and this was the end till some harsh sounding voice drifted into her ears.

"Madam Liu, I checked her pulse more than three times, the girl is already dead." The voice of an unfamiliar man drifted into Bai Lingling's ears.

"As expected." An older woman's voice filled the space. "If that is the case then, we have no choice than to use the drilling method to force the Phoenix Vein Fragment out of her."

The voice of that older woman was really hard for Bai Lingling to listen to. It scratched the inside of her skull like claws. Slowly, Bai Lingling drew energy from her core that was already badly damaged to this her weak and frail body.

While the people in the room still conversed intently about their next step, she opened her eyes and blinked, looking around her environment.

The room was dark and cold, like every corner had shadows waiting to swallow her.

There were eight men standing around, all dressed in deep colored robes with their hair tied high like ancient officials, but their faces were cruel, sharp, and impatient. Their eyes were like blades pointed at her.

Some looked older with long thin mustaches, others were younger with hard jaws and emotionless expressions. None of them looked familiar. None of them looked like they came from her family. These were strangers. Dangerous strangers.

And in front of them stood the woman they called Madam Liu.

She was older, maybe in her late fifties, with narrow fox-like eyes, sharp cheekbones, thin red lips and a cold expression as if she had never smiled in her entire life.

Her hair was pinned up with gold ornaments that didn't match the darkness of the room. Her gaze on Bai Lingling was the most uncomfortable part, like she was staring at a piece of meat she wanted to carve open.

Bai Lingling's arms were tied above her head with a thick rope attached to a wooden beam.

The rope bit into her skin painfully, and she could feel her wrists already bruised. Her legs were weak, barely touching the ground.

Where am I?

Bai Lingling asked herself with obvious confusion. Her dark brows furrowed as a wave of memories suddenly hit her head.

She has been transmigrated after heaven cheated her, and not only that she has been transmigrated into the body of a weak cowardly girl.

It made sense now who these people were, even though Bai Lingling had no clue about their names or where they were from.

They wanted something from her.

They wanted something her real parents left behind in this body.

Something valuable enough to kill her for.

The former owner of this body was named Yun Qingqing. She had been treated badly by her relatives her entire life.

Her uncles insulted her every day, calling her useless and ugly.

They pushed her around like she was a servant.

Her so called mother beat her over the smallest mistakes and refused to give her food for days.

Her cousins whispered behind her back about when she would finally die.

And even her fiancé, the one who was supposed to protect her, treated her worse than a stray dog. He ignored her, humiliated her, and only wanted the Phoenix Vein Fragment hidden inside her body. He had already chosen another woman, and still kept Yun Qingqing tied to him just so he could steal her inheritance.

It made sense now why they all wanted her dead.

This Phoenix Vein Fragment was not something they could let her keep.

"Hahahaha." Bai Lingling suddenly let out a weak laugh, causing everyone in the room to turn towards her.

The moment they saw that the girl who they thought they had killed originally was suddenly alive again, they immediately tensed up.

Some of the men even stepped back, their eyes widening like they had seen a ghost. Madam Liu's expression twitched for the first time, her face tightening as if she had swallowed something sour.
