Bai Lingling raised her brows slightly.
So the good places were basically private.
"However," the man went on, "not all oysters from those places produce pearls, and not every pearl is worth much."
He gestured toward the shells piled in the hall.
"The spirit oysters that still have aura, the ones that may contain Spirit Pearls, are collected for the Overseer. But the empty shells, the ones that only have sand pearls or common pearls, or the ones found in more dangerous places that the Overseer does not care about, can be brought back and sold here."
Bai Lingling blinked.
"So these are the leftovers," she thought.
The muscular man continued explaining.
"These shells you see here come from places ordinary people do not dare to go," he said. "Some were pried off shell beds stuck between steep reef walls. Some were taken from lonely stretches of sea where no one lives. The divers travel far and risk their lives to bring them back."
