Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The City Bows

Blackstone City woke up to a different sky.

Nothing had changed.

The same cracked streets.

The same dark alleys.

The same scent of blood in the air.

But the atmosphere was different.

Heavier.

Quieter.

More… obedient.

Because the ruler of the city had changed overnight.

I stood atop the highest tower in the Low Iron District, overlooking the streets below.

The system panel hovered in front of me.

[DING!]

City Authority: Emerging

Territory Control: Expanding

Public Fear Level: Extreme

Faction Resistance: Collapsing.

Estimated time to full control: 3–5 days.

I exhaled slowly.

"So it spreads on its own."

Power didn't need announcements.

It moved through fear.

Through rumors.

Through broken bodies.

And Blackstone was listening.

Below, groups of people gathered at a distance.

Merchants.

Cultivators.

Street survivors.

None dared come too close.

But none dared ignore me either.

A group finally approached.

Three men.

One woman.

All wore faction insignias.

Not Black Fang.

Other groups.

Rival factions.

They stopped several meters away and bowed.

"We represent the Iron Vultures," the woman said.

"We wish to discuss terms."

Another man stepped forward.

"Blood Lantern Guild," he said.

"We also request negotiations."

The third spoke last.

"Stone Wolf Band," he muttered.

"We surrender our territory."

The system chimed.

[DING!]

Multiple faction submissions detected.

City domination progress: Rapid.

Option available:

Accept vassal agreements.

Reward:

Citywide authority boost.

Passive power growth.

New title progression.

I studied them silently.

Fear filled their eyes.

Not loyalty.

Not respect.

Just survival.

Good enough.

"Your territories remain yours," I said calmly.

"But you answer to me now."

They bowed deeper.

"Yes, Tyrant Zhang."

The words spread like a ripple.

Tyrant.

Not a rumor anymore.

A title.

The system pulsed.

[DING!]

Citywide submission event detected.

Title progression increased.

Processing…

[DING!]

New Title Acquired:

Blackstone Overlord

Effect:

All hostile entities within city limits suffer intimidation.

Growth rate increased while ruling territory.

Power +20.

My aura deepened.

Heavier.

Sharper.

The air around me felt denser.

Even the faction representatives shivered.

Far away, at the edge of the city, a cloaked figure stood atop the wall.

He watched everything.

Silent.

Still.

A messenger knelt behind him.

"The reports are confirmed," the messenger said.

"Black Fang has fallen. Lord Ren was defeated publicly."

The cloaked figure said nothing.

After a long moment, he spoke.

"So the rumors were true," he murmured.

His voice was calm.

But cold.

"Send word to the capital," he ordered.

"Tell them Blackstone has changed hands."

The messenger swallowed.

"Should we intervene?"

The cloaked figure shook his head.

"No," he said quietly.

"Let the boy enjoy his throne."

His eyes sharpened.

"Kings attract hunters."

Back in the city center, I walked through the main street.

No one blocked my path.

No one dared.

Even the strongest cultivators lowered their gazes.

The system panel updated again.

[DING!]

Citywide Reputation: Dominant.

Fear Absorption: Continuous.

Passive Growth Active.

Power +3.

Every step I took made me stronger.

Not through training.

Not through battles.

Through control.

Through dominance.

Through rule.

Kang Yu approached from the side street.

His posture was respectful.

Not submissive.

But careful.

"The city has accepted you," he said.

"For now," I replied.

He nodded.

"Other territories will hear of this soon," he continued.

"They won't like it."

"I don't care if they like it," I said.

Kang Yu almost smiled.

"Good," he said.

"Because they won't."

He looked toward the northern gate.

"Messengers have already left," he added.

"Word is spreading."

The system chimed.

[DING!]

External attention increasing.

Multiple regional powers have noticed your rise.

Threat level: Rising.

Opportunity level: Extreme.

I stopped in the middle of the main square.

The entire city seemed to revolve around this place.

And now—

It was mine.

I looked up at the dark towers surrounding the square.

"This city was built on fear," I murmured.

Kang Yu remained silent.

"I just made it honest," I continued.

He chuckled quietly.

"That's one way to rule."

The system pulsed once more.

[DING!]
