Lyra's POV
The question haunted me as I crept back to my room like a guilty teenager sneaking past curfew. Had I just slept with Ash again? Absolutely. Should I have done it? Definitely not. Was it mind-blowing enough to scramble every rational thought in my head? Without question.
My cheeks burned as I slipped through my door, still feeling the aftershocks of what we'd done. Just like the previous night, I'd bolted from his room in complete disarray, unable to face whatever strange connection was pulling us together. The smart thing would have been to stay and talk it through, but my nerves were shot to pieces.
I pressed my back against the door and tried to collect myself. That's when I spotted her.
Poppy stood in the center of my room like a disapproving statue, arms folded tightly across her chest. The expression on her face hit me like a physical blow. Pure disappointment radiated from her, so thick I could practically choke on it.
