Chapter 5 - ch 5

Chapter 5 – Charlie POV**

My legs felt like jelly as Alastor led me down the grand staircase, one gloved hand resting possessively at the small of my back. Every step sent a fresh reminder of what we had just done trickling down my inner thighs—warm, sticky evidence of his repeated releases that soaked into the hastily summoned silk of my new dress. My core throbbed with a deep, satisfied ache, muscles still twitching from the countless orgasms he had wrung from me. Even now, hours into what felt like one endless performance of our deal, my body hummed with leftover pleasure. I had to bite my lip to keep another soft moan from escaping at the mere memory of how perfectly he had filled me, how those vibrating tentacles had known exactly how to push me over the edge again and again.

Guilt crashed over me like cold water the moment we reached the lobby. Vaggie stood near the front desk, spear in hand, her single eye narrowing at the sight of us. Her gaze flicked from my flushed cheeks to the way I walked a little too carefully, and her expression crumpled with hurt before she masked it with professional anger. "There you are. We've got a problem outside—some turf skirmish spilling onto our doorstep. Angel's already mouthing off at them."

Alastor's smile never wavered, but I felt the static radiating off him spike. His hand pressed firmer against my back, almost protective, yet the radio hum in his voice carried that same undercurrent of fury from upstairs. "How delightful. A welcoming committee for our grand reopening." He still thought my cries had been fake. I could see it in the tight set of his shoulders, the way his crimson eyes refused to linger on mine for too long. It made my chest hurt even as residual waves of pleasure made me clench involuntarily around nothing.

Before I could pull him aside to explain, the double doors burst open. Three hulking demons—shark-toothed sinners covered in fresh ectoplasm from the street fight—stumbled inside, laughing and swinging crude weapons. One of them spotted me and leered. "Well well, if it ain't the princess playin' house. How about you ditch the freaky deer and—"

The sentence never finished. Alastor moved like lightning wrapped in green static. His antlers elongated with an audible crack, power exploding outward in a violet burst I had never felt from him before. The air itself warped, radio static screeching into a deafening crescendo as chains of emerald energy lashed out—not the binding kind I remembered from our original deal, but something sharper, freer. The nearest shark demon was sliced cleanly in half before he could blink, the cut cauterized instantly by crackling electricity. The other two tried to run, but Alastor's shadow tentacles erupted from the floor, yanking them back and crushing their skulls with casual efficiency. Green sigils flared brighter than I had ever seen, and a wave of raw force rippled outward, slamming the hotel doors shut and silencing the street chaos beyond.

The entire confrontation lasted four seconds. When the static cleared, only scorch marks and dissipating ash remained. Alastor adjusted his monocle with theatrical flair, but I caught the momentary flicker in his eyes again—that strange amber warmth that didn't belong to the Radio Demon. For a split second his smile softened at the edges, almost boyish, and a faint, distorted voice slipped through the broadcast filter: "Like mountain ash… works every time." It sounded nothing like him. Young. Sarcastic. Human.

My heart stuttered. I stepped closer without thinking, the ache between my legs flaring as my body recalled exactly how that same power had felt buried inside me. "Alastor… that was incredible. You've changed. The chains I used to feel—they're really gone, aren't they? And that voice—"

He cut me off with a sharp laugh that sounded forced even through the radio effect. "Merely an upgrade, my dear. One you'll tolerate along with everything else, I'm sure." The bitterness was unmistakable. He still believed I had been pretending upstairs, that every orgasm, every genuine scream had been an act for the hotel's sake. It made me want to grab him by the lapels and shake him until he understood how much I had actually enjoyed it—how conflicted that enjoyment left me.

Vaggie approached, spear lowered but jaw tight. "We've got new arrivals watching from the bar. Sir Pentious is already trying to claim a room, and Husk looks two seconds from quitting. If you're done with your *private meeting*…" Her glare at me was laced with pain I couldn't ignore. The guilt I had pushed aside during sex roared back full force. I loved her. I loved what we were building here. Yet my body still carried Alastor's marks, inside and out, and some treacherous part of me wanted more.

Alastor's tentacles retracted with a snap, but not before one brushed my wrist in what might have been tenderness or warning. "The hotel opens tonight, Charlotte. Our deal ensures its success—my protection, my staff, my… particular contributions." His eyes finally met mine, stormy with misread rejection. "Try to look a little more enthusiastic for our guests. Wouldn't want them thinking you regret our arrangement already."

I opened my mouth to protest, to tell him how hard I had come for him, how the guilt only made the pleasure sharper, but Angel Dust sauntered over with a knowing grin. "Whoa, smiles! You redecorated the lobby with demon guts? Kinky. And you, toots—" He winked at me. "Lookin' thoroughly railed. Good for you."

Heat flooded my face. I shifted my weight and felt another warm trickle escape down my leg, hidden only by the long hem of my dress. The sensation sent an unwelcome spark of arousal through me even now. Alastor's static flared in response, his smile sharpening as if he had noticed and taken it as further proof of my reluctance.

Outside, distant explosions signaled the turf war continuing without its three participants. Inside, the hotel buzzed with chaotic potential—new sinners trickling in, drawn by the spectacle, Niffty already zooming past with a needle and thread to mend the damaged wallpaper. This was what I had dreamed of. Redemption. Connection. But standing between Vaggie's quiet heartbreak and Alastor's furious misunderstanding, with his power now unchained and terrifyingly stronger, I wondered how long I could keep balancing both without breaking.

Alastor offered his arm with exaggerated gallantry, static humming a jaunty tune. "Shall we greet our public, darling?"

I took it, body still singing from his touch, heart heavy with everything I couldn't yet say. The deal had only just begun its true performance, and the first act had left me more tangled than ever.
